Anthony Albanese: Prime Minister casts vote for top 10 Aussie songs of all time
Casting his vote in Triple J's Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, Mr Albanese listed what he believed to be the best homegrown songs in history and shared them with the nation on social media.
'Hard to narrow down to just 10,' he said.

The PM's votes were part of a national poll held by the alternative radio station, with the survey typically held annually in January to highlight the top 100 songs from each year.
However, with Triple J celebrating 50 years of operation, a countdown of the greatest 100 songs of all time will be revealed on July 26 as voted by listeners.
'They've been the playlist to our lives, defined the sound of the nation and echoed across generations, and now we get to champion all the tracks that have lasted a lifetime (or more),' Triple J's website reads.
Among the PM's list are Paul Kelly's Christmas anthem How To Make Gravy, Midnight Oil's politically fuelled Beds Are Burning, and The Angels' pub classic Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again.
With such a contentious proclamation, naturally, Aussies chimed in with their approval rating. And they didn't hold back.
'Not surprised 'How to make gravy' made your list mate, although I'm sure 'Dumb Things' is much more appropriate,' one person wrote.
'I have a song for you Albo … Shaddup You Face — Joe Dolce,' another teased.
Several followers suggested the PM should focus more attention on fixing the issues crippling Australians.
'Thanks mate power bill went up 10% in the time it took me to read this,' one said.
John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, and AC/DC were three of several big-name artists the public implored Mr Albanese to consider.
And some noted that his list was heavily dominated by male artists, asking, 'Where are the women?'
However, there were some fans of his selection.
'How To Make Gravy to be a hot contender,' one person wrote.
'Great taste Albo! The coolest Prime Minister ever!' another said, albeit likely sarcastically.
After he was similarly mocked in 2024 for sharing his Spotify Wrapped top songs, the PM either didn't learn his lesson the first time, or didn't care.
His top five most-listened tunes last year included Australia by G Flip, Letting Go by Angie McMahon, Still Have Room by Hockey Dad, Lime Cordial's Pedestal, and Get Me Out by King Stingray.
Years before Mr Albanese was exalted into the top job in politics, the PM was known to jump on the DJ decks at various events on the East Coast and spin his favourite tracks.
Anthony Albanese's top 10 Aussie songs (in no particular order)
The Angels — Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again
Cold Chisel — Flame Trees
The Fauves — Dogs Are The Best People
The Go-Betweens — Cattle and Cane
You Am I — Purple Sneakers
Hunters & Collectors — Throw Your Arms Around Me
The Triffids — Wide Open Road
Spiderbait — Buy Me a Pony
Paul Kelly — How To Make Gravy

From Disney to mega-mansions: Jonas Brothers' wild real estate ride
They may be celebrating 20 years of chart-topping hits with their new anniversary tour, but behind the music, the Jonas Brothers have also been quietly building a property empire. From a multimillion-dollar Texas ranch they bought at the height of their Disney fame to record-breaking multimillion-dollar estates in LA's Encino, the brothers' real estate journey mirrors their evolution from teen idols to global superstars. And just as they are hitting the road again, their homes are still making headlines. 2008: The boys' first major investment Fresh off their early Disney fame, the brothers – then aged 21, 19 and 16 – pooled funds, empowering their mum with power of attorney, to purchase a $4.3m (US$2.8m) ranch in Westlake, a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas. The stunning 7,360-sq-ft home, reportedly purchased in 2008, featured six bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, a music room, theatre, game room, wet bar, outdoor kitchen, gazebo, saltwater pool and sweeping golf-course vistas. They sold the family home in 2015 after nearly a decade of ownership. MORE NEWS Aussie TV stars cash in on property moves Real-life Minecraft castle up for grabs Catherine Zeta-Jones insists owning 4 homes is 'not excessive' Kevin's real estate pivot (and lessons learned) In 2010, Kevin struck out on his own with a $1.85m (US$1.2m) Denville, New Jersey mansion – five bedrooms, marble floors and white-stone facade – shared with his wife Danielle; they sold it in 2014 for $2.6m (US$1.68m). He then launched JonasWerner, a luxury home-building and development firm. He built a Hamptons-style estate in Boonton, New Jersey – complete with a 1,500-bottle wine cellar, cigar lounge, and putting green. After a sale at a minor loss around 2017, he later built and sold another New Jersey home in Montville for a modest profit. Yet real estate wasn't always smooth sailing. MORE NEWS: Snake drama forces costly Swift bathroom repairs In a candid interview earlier this year, Kevin revealed he lost nearly 90 per cent of his wealth during the band's hiatus due to poor property and business ventures. Thankfully, one of his projects eventually netted a $1.54m (US$1m) profit in 2020, and as he reflected, the band's 2019 reunion gave him a much-needed second chance. Recently, Kevin and his wife Danielle sold another New Jersey mansion for $4.2m (US$2.7m), a cool $1.54m (US$1m) gain on their $2.6m (US$1.7m) purchase. The 6,000-sq-ft home overflows with luxe extras: pool house, wine cellar, wraparound bar and four-car garage. The sale came just ahead of the Jonas 20 tour's launch. Nick's style: From Broadway to Beverly Hills Nick's real estate journey shows his bold and stylish approach: In 2012, as a rising Broadway star, he rented a lavish Chelsea, NYC condo with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, six TVs, iPad-controlled lighting, and a 120-inch drop-down movie screen. The home was listed for $35,437 (US$23,000) a month – though it's unclear how much Nick paid during his stay. In 2013, he set down roots in Los Angeles, snapping up a $5m (US$3.2m) Mediterranean home on the Sunset Strip, later profiting slightly by selling it for around $5.2m (US$3.4m). By 2018, newly wed to Priyanka Chopra, Nick snapped up a Beverly Hills Post Office mansion for around $10m (US$6.5m) – which they sold over a year later at a modest gain. The mansion, originally built in 1938, featured a living room with a wood-burning fireplace and rustic wood floors, with a spot for Nick's grand piano. Joe's West Coast adventures: From WeHo to Sherman Oaks Joe bought his first home for $4m (US$2.6m) in May 2014, according to Architectural Digest. The 2,888-square-foot traditional-style mansion in West Hollywood was originally built in 1923, and still retained much of its charm, but with modern upgrades like stainless steel appliances and white subway-tile backsplashes in the kitchen and marble-topped vanities in the bathrooms. However, Joe changed his tune on the place less than a year later, selling it for $4.5m (US$2.9m). He subsequently decided to rent, staying at a $61,630 (US$40,000) a-month Airbnb in the Hollywood Hills area. In February 2016, Joe reportedly gave up the renter lifestyle and spent $5.7m (US$3.7m) on a brand-new modern farmhouse in Sherman Oaks. The 5,600-square-foot home, known as The Sutton House, included four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The singer put the farmhouse back on the market in August 2018, and it sold for $5.7m (US$3.7m) in early 2019 – the same year Joe and now ex-wife Sophie Turner bought a neighbouring 15,000-sq-ft home for $21.7m (US$14.1m), loaded with ten bedrooms, 14 baths, a wine cellar, home theatre, gym, and office – constructed of wood and stone for bespoke elegance. The couple sold the mansion in 2021 for $23.4m (US$15.2m) – making a tidy profit. It marked one of the priciest home sales in the San Fernando Valley that year. The record-breaking Encino estate The trio's most headline-grabbing property moves came in 2019 when Nick and Priyanka paid a record $30.8m (US$20m) for a 20,000-sq-ft Encino, California estate. The home is grand in every sense of the word, with a double-height entry hall with wood-panelled ceiling, a glass-lined mezzanine that overlooks the entryway, and a living room with a floor-to-ceiling marble fireplace. The couple worked together to join their aesthetics, and Nick told Architectural Digest at the time that he felt 'really lucky' that he had 'found someone who was totally understanding and accepting of my preferences.' The couple still share the home today.

How Irene left Home and Away after decades
Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. After decades as one of the most beloved stars on Australian TV, Home and Away veteran Lynne McGranger bid farewell to Summer Bay and her legendary character Irene Roberts. Over the past 33 years, Irene has become part of the fabric of the fictional seaside community, having taken in multiple foster children and offering a safe haven to those in need. She has been at the centre of many of Home and Away's biggest storylines, including her battle with alcoholism, a breast cancer diagnosis, the shock arrival of a long-lost son, a ferry boat sinking, a bomb explosion, a plane crash, and a stint in prison for a murder she did not commit. Irene has officially left Summer Bay. Picture: Seven It was an emotional episode that saw Irene leave Summer Bay 'with a bang', getting the send off she deserves. It began with a farewell party so everyone had one last chance to say goodbye before she embarked on her new life exploring the world. Party music was playing, love and laughter was in the air, but it wasn't quite perfect. The man who means the most to Irene was nowhere to be seen. Ever since she first announced that she was leaving to travel the world, Irene faced resistance from John Palmer (Shane Withington), who has in recent episodes been concerned about her Alzheimer's progressing, but held too much pride to admit he'll miss her. Irene and John bid farewell to each other during an emotional goodbye. Picture: Seven As Summer Bay's residents made their speeches, John finally makes a welcomed appearance, and the pair share a bittersweet goodbye that sees them both with tears in their eyes. 'I want you to meet me at the Eiffel Tower,' Irene says, revealing that she's bought him a ticket to join her in Paris. 'So you see, it's not goodbye, it's au revoir,' she laughs. 'I will be there,' insists John. 'In hell or high water, I will be there!' Irene has officially left Summer Bay. Picture: Seven As she's driven away from the Bay, Irene takes one last look out the window at the community she called a home for more than three decades and smiles, as a letter she left behind is read out in her voice. 'Most importantly, take care of each other. At the end of the day, that's what matters. Friends and family,' she says. 'No regrets?' Irene is asked, to which she grins and replies with her signature pet name, 'None, love.' 'Life's too short,' she finishes. 'After almost 33 years in my dream role and working every day with people who I love, respect and whom I now consider family, it's bittersweet to be closing the chapter on what has been the best and longest gig of my life.' She continued: 'I am forever grateful to the best production crew in the world and to our genius writers – whose doors are always open – for everything they have done for Irene over the past 33-odd years, and I am so proud of the storyline which will see Irene out of the Bay.
