Rest areas to soon close until 2026 for demolition, upgrade
Rest areas in Auglaize County will soon be closed until 2026 while they get a major upgrade.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced that the Interstate 75 north and south rest areas will be closed on July 7, according to an ODOT spokesperson.
The work is expected to take around a year to complete, with a tentative opening for the summer of 2026.
This is the second I-75 rest area undergoing a renovation north of I-70.
As previously reported by News Center 7, rest areas in Miami County remain closed on both I-75 north and southbound.
ODOT said they are scheduled to reopen this fall.

The Auglaize County rest areas are located just north of the State Route 67 exit near Wapakoneta. The rest areas will be closed while construction takes place, ODOT said.
The new 'lodge-style' buildings will include larger restrooms with adult changing tables, a lobby area with vending, and regional tourism. It will also feature an attached covered outdoor picnic area.
Until the Miami County rest area is back open, the nearest facility for northbound travelers will be in Hancock County, ODOT stated.
The closed rest area for southbound travelers will be the rest area on Interstate 71 near Florence, Kentucky.
The Butler County rest area facilities near Monroe are scheduled to reopen in July.

Rowena Fire closes I-84 eastbound; over 700 homes on level 3 'Go Now' evacuation orders
(This story has been updated to include new information) Eastbound I-84 closed June 11 between mileposts 64 and 82 due to the Rowena Fire, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Wasco County Sheriff's Office. The closure is between Mosier and The Dalles. I-84 and Highway 30 were also closed from Rowena to milepost 82. ODOT advised drivers to find an alternative route. ODOT spokesperson Kacey Davey said there are fires burning on both the Oregon and Washington state sides of the Columbia River Gorge. Davey urged travelers to not drive to the highway closure spots and to check for updates and closure information. The sheriff's office said in a Facebook post 733 homes were under level 3 "Go Now" evacuation orders, 1,195 homes were under level 2 "Be Set" and 157 homes were under level 1 "Be Ready." Tina Kotek invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act in response to the fire, allowing the Oregon state fire marshal to mobilize resources. The state fire marshal is mobilizing structural firefighters and an incident management team for the fire, according to a news release. Three task forces were set to respond June 11 and three more are set to arrive the morning of June 12. Area rest stops along I-75 closing in July
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Rest stops in two local counties are closing for roughly one year. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the north and south rest stops in Auglaize and Butler counties are closing July 7. ODOT said the rest stops are being fully replaced as a part of the state's Re-imagined Rest Area Project. During the closure, crews will demolish the buildings and create a modern area of restrooms, vending, outdoor picnic and more. While the stops in two counties are closed, drivers can utilize rest areas north of the Miami Valley near Findlay in Hancock County or across the Ohio River near Florence, Kentucky.
