HE was a key member of the Rangers backroom staff under Michael Beale.
But he has spent the last six months unemployed after leaving his previous job just three months into his tenure.

When he was named first team coach at Gers, the man in question had not long become one of the youngest British coaches to land both the Uefa A and Pro licences.
So it was seen as a coup when Harry Watling agreed to follow Michael Beale from Queens Park Rangers to Ibrox in 2023.
Watling had been by Beale's side during the Londoner's own first gig in management at Loftus Road.
He previously coached in the academies at Chelsea, Millwall and West Ham, before taking on a first team role under Beale at QPR in 2022.
Watling was also the youngest head coach in US professional soccer when he took over at Hartford Athletic for a short spell between 2021 and 2022.
He continued to break records even when he headed back to England, becoming the youngest gaffer in the division he entered.
Watling landed his first managerial post in September last year when he took over at Ebbsleet United, then-bottom of the National League.
But he departed in December after his side went on a horror run of form, with the club still rooted to the foot of the table at the time.
He has spent the last six months out of football but has now returned to the game with Championship side Middlesbrough.
The 35-year-old has been added to new boss Rob Edwards' coaching staff, with Edwards having replaced former Manchester United star Michael Carrick at the Riverside.
New Rangers chiefs Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe's first interview
Of course, Rangers will face Boro in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox next month.
A 'Get to Know' section on the club's website offers a rundown of Watling's career to date, including his stint at Gers.
It reads: "Harry Watling will form a key part of Rob Edwards' Boro backroom staff.
"With experience as a coach and manager at various levels, here is the lowdown on the 35-year-old…
Harry's coaching journey began at the age of just 15. He quickly obtained his badges, including the UEFA B Licence aged 18
He joined Chelsea as a development centre coach aged 19, and later progressed to work within the club's Academy
After five years at Chelsea, Harry was with Millwall from 2014 to 2018, coaching the Under-15s and U16s
He spent time in a similar role at West Ham United before becoming head coach of Hartford Athletic in the United States in 2020
While with the USL Championship club – one tier below MLS – Hartford set records for most goals, points and clean sheets in their history
He resigned from his role in June 2022 to return to England for family reasons
A month later, he was appointed first-team development coach with Queens Park Rangers, who started the 2022/23 campaign in fine form
The coaching staff, including Harry, moved to Rangers in November 2022, where they remained until October 2023
Harry was appointed manager of National League club Ebbsfleet United in September 2024, and departed by mutual consent later that year
He now returns to football as part of Rob Edwards' coaching staff."
Middlesbrough will have aspiration of trying to win promotion to the Premier League this coming year, having narrowly missed out on the play-offs in the season just gone.

Liam Delap opens Chelsea account in Club World Cup win over Espérance

It must be tough to play free-flowing football when it feels as if the game is being staged in an airless hotel room and nobody knows how to turn off the central heating. Chelsea nonetheless managed to keep their cool in suffocating conditions in Philadelphia, securing their place in the last 16 of the Club World Cup thanks to a composed 3-0 victory over Espérance. This was a positive night for Enzo Maresca, who encountered few problems after trusting his second string to see off the Tunisian champions. Liam Delap scored his first goal for his new club and although Chelsea finished behind Flamengo in Group D there are benefits to going through in second place. After all a date with Bayern Munich on Saturday has been swerved, albeit more by luck than judgment after Benfica took advantage of Vincent Kompany's disastrous attempt at rotation by nabbing top spot in Group C with a shock 1-0 win over the German champions on Tuesday afternoon. Of course, Chelsea should not take anything for granted when they head to Charlotte to face Benfica, who are experienced competitors at Champions League level. Equally, though, the picture does look rosier than after last Friday's ragged 3-1 defeat to Flamengo. A humiliating early exit has been avoided and Maresca will be pleased to have rested Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Levi Colwill, Pedro Neto and Reece James against opponents as limited as Espérance. There was a distinct Conference League group stage vibe to Maresca's starting 11. He made eight changes, gave Filip Jorgensen a chance in goal, handed Christopher Nkunku his first start in attack since 17 April and caused a meltdown on social media by again finding no place for Andrey Santos in midfield, despite it being fairly standard practice for a manager to ease in a young player who has been with his new teammates for under two weeks. Maresca pointed out that there are tactical nuances for Santos to absorb. This was Chelsea's 60th game of a gruelling campaign and if one thing has become clear during Maresca's first year in charge it is that his system takes time to understand. Malo Gusto inverting from left-back and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall operating on the right wing rather than in central midfield summed up those complexities. Not that Chelsea carried out the plan well at first. Was it the consequence of the heatwave making it impossible to train properly? It was still 35C by kick-off at Lincoln Financial Field and the added treat of high humidity levels made it hard for Chelsea. The first 10 minutes were lethargic. Tosin Adarabioyo headed wide from a corner, but Espérance soon found gaps at the other end. Gusto was caught out of position, only for the defender to race back to deny Elias Mokwana, and there was more concern when Yan Sasse got behind Josh Acheampong on the opposite flank. Chelsea responded with Nkunku finding Delap, who turned and shot at Bechir Ben Said from 20 yards. They began to dominate and almost scored when Enzo Fernandez combined with Gusto on the left. Dewsbury-Hall should have done better with a free header. Ben Said, looking increasingly suspect, then got away with spilling a shot from Acheampong. Enzo Fernandez whacked a volley wide after good play from Noni Madueke, who was Chelsea's most dynamic player during the first half. Nkunku, who has struggled for form and fitness, drifted into pockets of space. Perhaps Maresca can still find a use for the forward if no buyer for the France international emerges this summer. Nkunku certainly has his merits, particularly in the opposition box. It is more that he continues to look out of place in this setup. Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion Yet Chelsea were pressing as half-time approached. Espérance were not up to much. They cracked when Acheampong drove forward during stoppage-time and won a free-kick on the right. Fernandez crossed and Tosin guided in a clever header. Pressure lifted, Chelsea pushed again before the interval, the advantage doubled when Delap swivelled on the left, barrelled into the area and shot with his right instep. Ben Said, weirdly, did little but stand rooted to his line, making no attempt at a save despite the ball rolling in fairly centrally, like an outfield player having a reluctant turn in goal during a casual five-a-side game. Chelsea controlled the second half. Madueke and Nkunku shot narrowly wide; Tyrique George and Marc Guiu came on and were thwarted by Ben Said. Maresca was content and withdrew Delap, giving the striker a breather given that Nicolas Jackson will still be unavailable against Benfica after his red card against Flamengo. There was even a late runout for Santos, who appeared to have made a swift impact when his shot was handled and a penalty was awarded, only for the decision to be overturned after a VAR review. It made no difference. Flamengo will face Bayern after drawing 1-1 with Los Angeles FC. Chelsea still eased into the knockout stages, earning £7m in the process, gloss added to the scoreline when Ben Said failed to deal with a powerful shot from George from long range.

ES Tunis 0-3 Chelsea: Blues reach last-16 at the Club World Cup as Liam Delap nets first goal for new side to help set up Benfica tie

Just when a Mexican wave was forming around the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and those at home in England were wondering why they ever bothered staying up to watch this, Liam Delap grabbed his first goal for Chelsea and with it, everyone's attention. It was a lovely one to open his account, with Delap first displaying his brawn and then his brains. The 22-year-old Englishman stopped any ES Tunis defender from getting close to the ball, and then calmly rolled it into the corner, confirming this victory for Chelsea. Enzo Maresca 's side will now move into the Club World Cup 's last 16 where they will face Benfica in Charlotte this Saturday. The winner of that game would then face either Palmeiras or Botafogo in the quarter-finals in Philadelphia on July 4. Their side of the draw has opened up for them. Thankfully, Chelsea did not need to spend too much energy in dispatching ES Tunis here, even if they did wait until first-half stoppage time to finally strike with two quick-fire goals. First, Enzo Fernandez set up Tosin Adarabioyo's header. Then, Fernandez fed Delap for his fine finish. From then on, it was more important that they did not overexert themselves with Tyrique George completing the scoreline in stoppage time. Not in this heat and humidity. This was a record-breaking day for Philadelphia, the hottest this Pennsylvanian city had been in 13 years as temperatures reached 100F (37.8C). FIFA president Gianni Infantino was here for this group game, too, and it remained 95F (35C) despite the 9pm kick-off time. Not ideal conditions for a competitive kickabout, nor the sniffer dogs on the gates who were wearing crocs to protect their paws. Maresca spared Cole Palmer the mugginess. He was one of eight changes made by Chelsea's head coach while Nicolas Jackson was suspended following his red card versus Flamengo. In his absence, Delap is impressing. Among a selection of surprise tactical choices, Maresca used Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as a right winger, Malo Gusto as an inverting left back and 19-year-old academy graduate Josh Acheampong as a right back. The experiments took a while to work in front of the 32,967 fans in attendance here in Philly. After 15 minutes, a nice take and step inside into space from Delap saw his 20-yarder saved by ES Tunis goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said. After 20, Gusto's cross should have led to the opening goal, but Dewsbury-Hall, as if his head were shaped like a 50p coin, skewed his header. When Benoit Badiashile's crack led to a corner, Chelsea worked their set-piece to Acheampong, who nearly scored from 25 yards. That was the cue for the crowd at the Lincoln Financial Field to begin a Mexican wave. Never a good sign at a game of football. In first-half stoppage time, however, Chelsea finally struck. Fernandez crossed, Adarabioyo headed, and it was 1-0 in what was a straightforward move. Then it became 2-0 before the break when Fernandez fed Delap. Chelsea's striker showed his strength in keeping hold of the ball before scoring into the bottom corner. You suspect it will not take Chelsea supporters too long to learn to love what Delap, their £30million signing from Ipswich Town, brings to their team. For one, he does not shirk the work. Two, he is a battler. Three, he knows how to score goals. This was a fine one, and the first of many, he will hope. In the 50th minute, Chelsea wanted a penalty as Nkunku barged into the box with fine feet. Finding himself in traffic, he dropped down, and no penalty was awarded. After 59, Delap's day was done. A single yellow card would have ruled him out of Chelsea's last-16 tie with Benfica and so he was replaced by Marc Guiu to a standing ovation. Romeo Lavia, given his muscular history, was also subbed for Dario Essugo. Andrey Santos was introduced for his competitive debut for Chelsea and after 75 minutes, his shot was blocked by the arm of Yassine Meriah. Initially, the penalty was awarded, then VAR took a long while to decide it was harsh. It was overturned, robbing Nkunku of his chance of scoring. In stoppage time, another substitute in 19-year-old George picked up possession and scored through ES Tunis' goalkeeper Ben Said, who was poor here, from 25 yards to complete the 3-0 win. Chelsea are into the last 16 of the Club World Cup and you have to say, an inviting pathway has presented itself to them here in the United States. The prospect of playing Benfica for a subsequent quarter-final showdown with Palmeiras or Botafogo? They would have taken that at this tournament's beginning, happily.

Fans are all saying the same thing as Chelsea reach the last-16 of the Club World Cup - and learn next opponents

Fans have been left all saying the same thing after Chelsea qualified for the last-16 of the Club World Cup. The Blues needed just a draw to reach the knockout stages in the United States, with Enzo Maresca 's men earning a 3-0 win over Tunisian side ES Tunis in Philadelphia on Wednesday. Tosin Adarabioyo and Liam Delap were on the scoresheet before Tyrique George added a late third after Maresca rotated his side from the shock 3-1 defeat by Flamengo, with the Italian making eight changes but still seeing a comfortable win for his side in their third game of the tournament. Their win means they will face Portuguese side Benfica in the last-16, with Flamengo winning the group before a ball was kicked on matchday three. Coming second in the group, however, may be a blessing in disguise for the Premier League side. It means they have avoided a game against German champions Bayern Munich after they came second in Group C - with Flamengo instead set to face Vincent Kompany 's men. And that is something fans on social media have been keen to point out, suggesting that, despite the Blues winning on Wednesday, they have been handed an easier draw. Fans were keen to point out that the two sides have avoided each other - either of them winning their group would have resulted in a match-up 'Chelsea escaped Bayern,' one fan posted on X, accompanied by a heartbroken emoji and a photo of a footballer crying. Another added: 'Out path to the semi-final is now Benfica and then either Palmeiras or Botafogo. We've escaped both PSG and Bayern. We've got Delap and a star studded squad.' A third, meanwhile, posted: 'I wanted Bayern vs Chelsea.' A win over Benfica would indeed mean Chelsea would take on either Palmeiras or Botafogo in the quarter-finals, meaning they would be favourites to reach the last-four. It was a mixed group stage for the Blues, who beat LAFC 2-0 in their first game before falling to defeat at the hands of Flamengo in the second game. Bayern, meanwhile, were on course to top their group until they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Benfica.
