MiLaysia Fulwiley transfers from South Carolina to SEC rival LSU after two seasons with Gamecocks
MiLaysia Fulwiley, one of the top players in the transfer portal, has found a landing spot — with one of her former team's rivals. On Friday, the former South Carolina guard announced that she would be transferring to LSU.
The junior guard, who had reportedly entered the transfer portal earlier this month, was one of the bright spots on the Gamecocks' dynamic bench this season. After two seasons on the South Carolina bench, it seemed like Fulwiley would finally enter the Gamecocks' starting lineup next year.

Instead, Fulwiley will be joining Kim Mulkey and the Tigers, playing alongside players like star LSU guard Flau'jae Johnson.
The Gamecocks had far and away the best bench in the country, averaging 40.3 bench points per game this year — and Fulwiley was a major reason why. The guard averaged 19 minutes per game off the South Carolina bench this season, putting up an average of 12 points, three rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
During March Madness — a postseason run that ended with the Gamecocks losing to UConn in the NCAA title game — Fulwiley had a number of key games, including a 23-point performance in a four-point win over Maryland in the Sweet 16.

Although Fulwiley had established herself as one of the team's stars, she was held from Dawn Staley's starting lineup in favor of guard Raven Johnson, who was a junior and had seniority. If she had stayed at South Carolina, Fulwiley was also likely to lose minutes to Ta'Niya Latson, who transferred from Florida State after leading the country in scoring last season.
Fulwiley will also fill a void for LSU, who was in need of a point guard after junior Last-Tear Poa transferred to Arizona State.

Five stats that tell the story of LSU baseball's Game 1 win vs. West Virginia
Five stats that tell the story of LSU baseball's Game 1 win vs. West Virginia LSU baseball exploded for 16 runs vs. West Virginia in Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Super Regional. West Virginia managed to plate nine of their own, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep up with LSU's outburst. With Game 2 set for Sunday, LSU is one win away from punching a ticket to the College World Series. But until LSU hits the field again, let's take a look at how the Tigers got it done on Saturday. Jay Johnson showcased a different lineup with West Virginia starting a lefty. Derek Curiel is usually leading off, but he was in the No. 7 hole in Game 1. Taking Curiel's spot atop the lineup was veteran Josh Pearson. Both Curiel and Pearson had big days. On the mound, Kade Anderson didn't have his best stuff, but it was enough to make it through seven innings. Here are five stats that defined LSU baseball's win over West Virginia. 1. LSU only struck out four times LSU's bat-to-ball skills were elite on Saturday, only striking out four times. WVU starter Griffin Kirn was responsible for three of those K's and after that, LSU struck out just three times vs. the Mountaineer bullpen. When you put the ball in play, good things happen. LSU wasn't chasing pitches outside the zone and when WVU gave LSU a pitch to hit, the Tigers made them pay. If LSU is going to keep making contact at this rate, Jay Johnson's squad will go far. 2. LSU only left five runners on base LSU only left five runners on base all day. That's impressive considering the amount of traffic LSU had on the base path. LSU went 5-10 with runners in scoring position, cashing in when the chance was there. Last week, we saw LSU come up short in some big moments. That wasn't the case on Saturday. 3. Kade Anderson pitched seven innings It wasn't Kade Anderson's best day. The LSU ace allowed six earned runs and surrendered nine hits. But Anderson battled to give the Tigers seven innings. Thanks to Anderson, LSU's bullpen enters Game 2 in a good position. LSU did not have to burn any of its top arms on Saturday. LSU already has the pitching advantage on Sunday with Anthony Eyanson taking the mound, and now, if WVU forces a Game 3, LSU will be well-positioned thanks to Anderson's lengthy outing. 4. LSU had TWO grand slams Steven Milam blew the game open with a grand slam in the fifth inning, but it didn't stop there. Josh Pearson did it again in the sixth inning. LSU combined to score 13 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Pearson's was especially important. After West Virginia responded to LSU's big fifth inning with four runs of its own, Pearson's slam swung momentum right back in LSU's favor. The veteran outfielder didn't see much time in the regional, but Johnson was rewarded for slotting Pearson in the leadoff spot on Saturday. 5. Three hits for Derek Curiel LSU was down 1-0 early, but Derek Curiel flipped the script in the bottom of the fourth. Curiel drove a ball the other way after WVU hit back-to-back batters and just like that, LSU was up 3-1. LSU didn't look back after that. Curiel finished the day with three hits and five RBI. Curiel reached based four times and scored three runs.

LSU baseball erupts for 16 runs to beat WVU in Game 1 of super regional
After surviving the Baton Rouge Regional, LSU baseball welcomed West Virginia for the Baton Rouge Super Regional. Needing two wins to punch a ticket to Omaha, LSU scored 16 runs to take down the Mountaineers in game one 16-9. Kade Anderson got the start for LSU in Game 1. After both teams worked a scoreless first inning, West Virginia got on the board in the top of the second after a single caromed off Anderson's arm on the mound. Kade would stay in the game and finish the inning as we headed to the bottom of the second with LSU trailing 1-0. Advertisement Both pitchers got in a rhythm, and the bats went quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning. After Luis Hernandez and Daniel Dickinson were hit by a pitch, Derek Curiel hit a three-run homer to give the Tigers their first lead of the ballgame at 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, LSU broke the game wide open as the Tigers scored seven runs. Stephen Milam hit a grand slam, Curiel hit an RBI single, and Chris Stanfield hit a two-RBI single to increase the Tigers' lead to 10-1! When you give a pitcher like Anderson a 10-1 lead entering the sixth inning, you feel pretty good about your odds. If you have not been keeping up with this West Virginia team, you would not know that they went 3-0 in the Clemson Regional, but they had to come from behind to win all of those games. In the top of the sixth inning, West Virginia cut into the LSU lead as they plated four runs against Anderson to cut the lead to 10-5. Just like that, the Mountaineers were right back in the game. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jared Jones led off the inning with a double, Milam walked, Hernandez reached on a fielder's choice, and Dickinson got hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Advertisement Curiel and Ashton Larson would walk to score two more runs to increase the lead to 12-5. Josh Pearson stepped into the batter's box and he would hit ANOTHER grand slam to make it 16-5 Tigers! In the top of the seventh inning, West Virginia hit a two-run homer with two outs to cut the lead to 16-7. Anderson's day was finished after seven innings of work. He gave up seven runs on nine hits, seven strikeouts, and two walks. The seven runs he gave up today were the most runs he has given up in a single game all season. DJ Primeaux entered to pitch for the Tigers. After getting one out, Primeaux was pulled from the game, and William Schmidt entered. Schmidt gave up a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to cut the lead to 16-9. Mavrick Rizy then entered to pitch. Rizy got the final three outs, and LSU won game one! Advertisement With the win, LSU is now one win away from advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Game Two will be played Sunday at 6 PM.
