Nico Colsaerts in his own words: ‘Slower pace, bigger rewards: life's good in Abu Dhabi'
Life is good here in the UAE, especially in Abu Dhabi. It's one of those places that makes it easy to settle down. For someone like me, the pace of life in Abu Dhabi is perfect—slower than in Dubai, which suits me just fine.
I live near the Saadiyat Golf Course and let me tell you, there's something special about playing on these courses. The greens are always in top condition, and the atmosphere is laid-back, but with a touch of competition in the air. Everyone's just happy to be here.
I also have a lot of good memories with my long-time friend and coach, Jerome Theunis. Jerome and I go way back. We've known each other since we were nine years old. He's a successful coach now, having transitioned from playing professional golf to mentoring players like the Molinaris, Thomas Detry, Adrian Meronk, and Thomas Peter.
Funny enough, Jerome always dreamed of moving to Abu Dhabi, and now he's here with his family. His kids even go to the same school as my second son, which, back then, we would've never imagined.
It's surreal how life has worked out, but it just goes to show how much we both love it here. His wife, multilingual and incredibly versatile, fits right in. She's done so much back in Belgium, and I know she's found her happiness here too.
In terms of fitness, I'm doing well. I'm headed to South Africa soon to play in the SA Open in Joburg, but just last week, I took the kids skiing in Dubai.
Rachel (my wife) and I had always wanted to share that experience with them, and it was incredible. Skiing is something I've loved since I was a kid. It was the perfect escape—mountains, fresh air, and of course, the thrill of carving down the slopes.
But I have to admit, skiing never took away my love for golf. I fell in love with both at the same time, and while I've dedicated my life to golf, skiing will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been skiing since I was six, and I've never had an injury (touch wood!). It's a sport that allows me to switch off completely—clear my mind and recharge.
I know some people might ask if I could've been a better skier had I focused on it more, but I wouldn't trade my journey for anything. You don't win three European Tour titles and get picked to play in the Ryder Cup without putting everything into golf.
I turned pro the day I turned 18, and in the years that followed, I found myself constantly striving to improve. I've been lucky to have had great moments, but I'll never forget where I came from.
When I'm in Dubai, I like to play some rounds of golf with the guys from Jumeirah Golf Estates. It's a small thing, but it's my way of showing my appreciation for them. We all work hard, but we have to remember to take time for the things we love—whether it's golf, skiing, or simply enjoying the incredible life we've built here in the UAE.

'I struck the ball well today and felt in control throughout the round,' said Valentine. 'The Fire course was in fantastic shape, and I'm really proud of my score of seven net birdies and a net eagle certainly helped!' Valentine's triumph headlined a day of top-tier competition, as Jumeirah Golf Estates hosted its monthly tournament in partnership with Unique Holding. DP World Launches Global Clubhouse Initiative to Make Golf Accessible to Youth
DP World has unveiled a new global initiative aimed at making golf more accessible to underserved youth, launching its first purpose-built Clubhouse in Cape Town, South Africa. The project builds on the success of DP World's Second Life Container Initiative, which repurposed shipping containers to distribute over 350,000 golf balls worldwide. Now, through the Clubhouse program, the company is taking a step further—transforming unused containers into fully equipped golf hubs tailored to the needs of grassroots programs around the world. Each Clubhouse will offer essential golf equipment, storage, and training aids, delivered using DP World's logistics network. The aim is to create safe, engaging environments for young players to learn and grow through golf, particularly in communities with limited access to the sport. The first unit was donated in partnership with the Sally Little Golf Trust, a South African non-profit dedicated to empowering young women through golf. The Trust uses the sport to instill values like honesty, integrity, respect, and perseverance—skills seen as critical for academic and personal development. 'At DP World, we believe in creating opportunities to empower young people,' said Daniel van Otterdijk, Chief Communications Officer. 'This initiative reflects how our logistics expertise and global partnerships can help open doors for the next generation.' The Clubhouse roll-out will continue in tandem with key events in the golf calendar, including the DP World Tour and the Ryder Cup in New York this September. As one of the world's leading logistics providers, DP World is giving new life to its containers—while shaping a more inclusive future for the game of golf. News Source: Dubai Media Office

DP World Tour sets the gold standard, wins big at Middle East Sport Industry Awards
It was a night to remember at the Middle East Sport Industry Awards. But for the DP World Tour, it was more than just a celebration — it was confirmation of a bold vision taking flight. Held under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the ceremony is the region's premier platform for recognizing trailblazers in sports. Among the glittering list of honourees, the DP World Tour stood tall — collecting two Gold Awards for Major Sport Event of the Year and Excellence in Sustainability. The DP World Tour Championship, held annually at Dubai's Jumeirah Golf Estates, is already a fixture in the international golf calendar. But in 2024, it became something more: a global spectacle that fused elite sport, cultural diversity, and sustainable innovation. Drawing the highest-ever spectator turnout for a golf event in the UAE, the championship's success was no accident. A fan-first strategy, combined with a dynamic marketing campaign, brought in a record 29% female audience — and international visitors accounted for over 30% of ticket sales. Dubai, long celebrated for its iconic skylines and hospitality, has now added world-class sporting appeal to its global identity. Speaking about the award wins Tom Phillips, Director of Middle East at the DP World Tour, said: 'These two Awards make it 12 prestigious sports industry awards won by the DP World Tour globally in the past 18 months, showing that our commitment to innovation is being acknowledged by our peers. " The Green Drive: Leading with Purpose In a world increasingly alert to climate realities, sport is no longer a bystander — and neither is the DP World Tour. Their Green Drive initiative — which secured top honours for Excellence in Sustainability — is perhaps the most ambitious environmental strategy in professional golf today. With a pledge to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040, the Tour is setting a benchmark for the global sporting industry. From piloting energy-efficient technologies at Rolex Series events to launching an innovative travel emissions offset platform for fans — a world-first — the Tour is reimagining what responsibility looks like in sports. The Tour has gone a step further by introducing a Sustainability Awards programme for its suppliers in the Middle East, amplifying best practices across the industry and fostering a culture of shared accountability. A Partnership with Purpose The transformation of the DP World Tour would not be possible without its namesake partner. Based in Dubai, DP World has redefined the global logistics landscape — and now, it's bringing the same drive for innovation to sport. As the Tour's title partner since 2022, DP World's involvement goes beyond branding. It reflects a long-term commitment to elevating Dubai's status as a global sports hub — and to positioning the city at the intersection of elite performance, global connectivity, and sustainable growth. 'We would like to thank our Title Partner DP World and all our partners and suppliers for helping us to deliver a memorable experience for fans and leave a positive legacy within local communities,' added Phillips. A Regional Beacon for Global Sport With 12 international awards collected in just 18 months, the DP World Tour isn't just succeeding — it's leading. As the 2025 season unfolds across 26 countries and 42 tournaments, all roads will once again lead to Dubai for the Tour's grand finale. What began as a tournament is now a symbol — of what can be achieved when sport, sustainability, and strategic vision meet on the world stage.
