Bootle man finishes 28-hour run for Liverpool domestic abuse charity
A charity worker who spent 28 hours running around the Merseyrail network has described his adventure as the "proudest moment" of his life.To complete his 109-mile challenge, Alex Rigby even had to walk through a tunnel under the River Mersey which links Liverpool and Wirral."The support from people is what makes it so special," he said.Alex has raised more than £40,000 for domestic abuse charity Centre 56.
His latest challenge followed one he completed last year when ran to all 36 stations on the Merseyrail Northern line in 12 hours, raising £20,000.The 33-year-old, from Bootle, said he wanted to support the "amazing work" done by the Centre 56 charity.After setting off from Chester at 15:00 GMT on Friday. Alex did not stop until he reached his final destination, Hunts Cross in south Liverpool, at 19:00 the next day.He ran through Wirral on Friday afternoon before donning high-visibility safety gear to walk through the Mersey railway tunnel at 01:00 GMT when no trains were running.After making it to Liverpool city centre, he continued to run through the night in freezing temperatures to Kirkby and then on to Ormskirk in Lancashire.He then continued across to Southport before running back to Liverpool.Alex's route also passed by the Centre 56 nursery in Kirkdale.He described this part of his run as "very emotional" because staff and children gathered with balloons and placards to cheer him on.A crowd also gathered at Hunts Cross to celebrate his final stop."When you see people supporting you, you get very emotional," he said. "You don't want to let them down."It was just unbelievable, it was the proudest day of my life!"

Made in Chelsea star Alex Mytton has paid tribute to two close friends he fears have been killed in the Air India plane crash. London-based couple Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek are among those believed to have been killed in this week's tragedy. Crashing shortly after takeoff, the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner smashed into a medical college in Ahmedabad in the west of India on Thursday. Of its 242 passengers on board, there is believed to be only one survivor, British man Ajay Kumar Vishwash, who walked away with minor injuries after jumping from the flaming jet. In the wake of the incident, TV star Alex, 33, posted an emotional message to his Instagram Stories in which he spoke of pals Fiongal, 39, and Jamie, 45, who had been travelling in India before the crash. The wellness gurus previously attended retreats hosted by Alex, with Fiongal also appearing on This Morning in January to talk about wellness. In a post to Instagram, Alex wrote: 'A bit lost for words and feeling a tad emotionally exhausted, so I just want to write a short message so as to get the message out. 'Our lovely friends Fiongal & Jamie were very sadly killed yesterday in the plane crash in India.' Tagging in girlfriend Helen Wood, Alex continued: 'There's a lot more I want to say about them, as they were very close to @Hannah_woood & I's heart but right now I just wanted to say that if anybody wants to meet up tomorrow if they're feeling heavy, sad or just wanna hang out with some other humans I'm gonna be organising a little meet up & hug in the park or along the lines (sorry not making loads of sense atm). 'It feels like there's a lot of sadness and pain at the moment and just wanted to do something as a vigil to our friends but also for everything else going on at the moment. 'So please if you're feeling down or even just up for hanging out or just saying hey, it'll be a bunch of us just chatting and chilling in the park.' At the start of Friday's episode, This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary also paid tribute to the couple. Referencing Fiongala's appearances on the show, Dermot said: 'We loved his energy that he brought to the studio.' He went on to explain how Fiongal was on board the plane with husband Jamie, finishing: 'Our thoughts and our prayers go to their loved ones and all those affected by this terrible tragedy.' Former This Morning producer Martin Frizell shared his own message of condolence, posting a picture of Fiongal with then-hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. 'So so sad to hear that Fiongal Greenlaw Meek and his partner are reported to be among the passengers and crew killed today on board the Air India flight bound for Gatwick,' Martin wrote. 'I remember his visit to the studio in January, he was passionate about auras and although I'm a sceptical sort his vibrancy and sheer enthusiasm won folk over. BBC radio star lets rip expletive outburst live on air after burst of cramp
A BBC star had to 'profusely apologise' after an expletive outburst was mistakenly heard live on air while presenting his lunchtime radio show A BBC radio presenter had to apologise after a huge blunder led to him swearing live on air. After speaking to listeners, BBC Radio Derby host Ian Skye was left embarrassed when his expletives were heard live on air when he thought he had cut from his segment. Ian told listeners to message in if they had any requests. However, as the show's jingle began to play, stunned listeners would have heard an in-pain Ian curse in agony. In the background, the presenter wails: "Ow, f***ing hell," before the show cuts back to the presenters chatting after a song had played. As his co-host joked they had been on a training course the day before to improve their presenting skills, they said: "I don't think they suggested suddenly getting unbearably agonising cramp and shouting really loud on the radio." Ian stuttered in response, saying: "No, that's probably not what I should have come in and done today." He then added: "Can I just say, if before that amazing song from Kate Bush, and I say if. You'd have had to be deaf if you didn't hear a rude word. "I really profusely apologise. You know when something happens and it's just instinct. My very, very calm producer said 'you're still on the radio, Ian." After TV critic Scott Bryan shared the clip to his Twitter /X page, users were left in hysterics. One user simply replied with three crying with laughter emoji faces. Another said: "I don't [think] this will be going up on BBC Sounds with swearing in it." They then questioned: "Didn't it happen to Radio 2s Sara Cox Once?" The incident comes days after fans of The One Show were left stunned as Lulu appeared to swear on live television. While reminiscing about her career with the presenters, the iconic pop star had a slip of the tongue. However, it didn't go unnoticed by viewers with keen hearing. While there wasn't an immediate apology on air, the reactions of the presenters were unmistakable as they processed the unforeseen gaffe. At the time, Lulu was sharing an anecdote about a conversation she had with Tina Turner. She quoted: "And Tina, I have to tell you something else. Tina said, 'I love it, it is just my life story' and I went, 'Hey girl, it is my f***ing life story'." With a rueful smile, Lulu added, "I didn't say it straight to her face, though," which led to Alex slowly nodding, utterly speechless. Viewers picked up on the moment and took to social media to vent their feelings. "Did I hear her right?," one stunned viewer questioned. Another, who was clearly entertained by the mishap, humorously commented: "Lulu just dropped an f bomb."
