CBS News Refutes Bill Belichick's Claims About Awkward Interview Alongside Girlfriend Jordon Hudson

Yahoo30-04-2025

CBS News refutes Bill Belichick's claims that there were agreed-upon limitations before they interviewed him about his new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football.
Belichick, 73, sat for an interview with Tony Dokoupil that aired on Sunday, April 27, during CBS Sunday Morning. The edited segment included an awkward moment when Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, shut down the interview when the journalist asked the new UNC-Chapel Hill head football coach how he met the 24-year-old.
In his first public comments on the situation, Belichick said he 'clearly communicated' with his publicist at Simon & Schuster, The Art of Winning's publisher, that 'any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book.'
'Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book," Belichick's statement, sent via email by the University of North Carolina on Wednesday, continued. "After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion."

CBS News disputes this version of events.
'When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,' the network said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. 'There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.'
In the segment that aired, Dokoupil asked Belichick how he met Hudson. After she stopped the interview, Dokoupil said in a voiceover, 'It's a topic neither one of them is comfortable commenting on.' The journalist also said Hudson was a 'constant presence' during the conversation.
Dokoupil also asked Belichick what he thought of the interest his relationship with Hudson has attracted.
"I've never been too worried about what everyone else thinks,' Belichick replied, adding that he tries 'to do what I feel like is best for me, and what's right.'
The scene sparked speculation about the nature of Belichick and Hudson's relationship and how they met. In his statement, Belichick defended her, saying she was 'simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track.'
'Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021,' Belichick said, adding that the final segment that aired 'does not reflect the productive 35-minute conversation we had, which covered a wide range of topics related to my career.'
"Instead, it presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true,' the former New England Patriots coach wrote.
Footage from the interview showed Hudson sitting just off camera and watching while Belichick was being interviewed.

Hudson's first public comments about the interview came on Tuesday, April 29, when she published a screenshot of an email from her boyfriend, apparently written to his book publishers. In it, he shared his concerns over promoting the book, and appeared upset over an article that focused more on his admission that he "f----- up" in a Super Bowl over other topics.
Her Instagram post included a second slide of a screenshot from a video in her camera roll, with just two sets of shoes on grass visible. It also had a timestamp of 35 minutes and 59 seconds. Hudson tagged Dokoupil and CBS Sunday Morning's Instagram accounts.

Fact Check: Checking Trump's claim CBS removed online evidence of his interview with Stephen Colbert

Claim: CBS deleted a 2015 episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" featuring an interview with U.S. President Donald Trump from its website; the network has also not made certain clips from the episode available on YouTube. Rating: What's True: The episode in question is not available on CBS' own website — as of this writing (only the latest season of the show, from 2025, is available). Also, some specific exchanges in the interview aren't on YouTube. What's False: However, multiple segments of the 2015 interview between Colbert and Trump are available on CBS' YouTube page. On May 30, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump shared a clip of his 2015 appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and implied that CBS deliberately hid the episode from online viewers. "You are not supposed to see this video," alleged the post on Truth Social, the president's social media platform. "CBS DELETED this entire episode from their official website. You will not find these segments on YouTube either." (Truth Social user @realDonaldTrump) Apparent supporters of the president reposted his claim with video on X (archived) and Facebook. However, Trump's claim about CBS is misleading. It is true that the 2015 episode featuring Trump's appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" is not on CBS' official website — but that is likely because the network's website only has recent episodes available. Furthermore, CBS posted segments from Trump's interview on YouTube, and those clips remain online as of this writing. Thus, we rate this claim a mixture of truth and falsehood. The landing page for "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on CBS' website is here; at the time of publication, it only shows episodes from Season 10. The earliest episode available as of this writing is from May 5, 2025. The clip Trump posted is from a Sept. 22, 2015, appearance on the show; as such, it is a much older episode than the ones available on CBS' official website. On Sept. 23, 2015, the verified "Late Show" YouTube account posted this approximately four-minute clip from the interview with Trump: The YouTube video has over 17 million views as of this writing. One of the exchanges featured in the clip Trump posted — the audience cheering after Trump says, "we're going to build a wall" at 0:52 — is included in the segment posted on YouTube. (The "Late Show" YouTube account also published another video of Trump's 2015 appearance; that clip has over 2 million views.) The rest of the exchanges featured in Trump's video are not included in the "Late Show" YouTube clips but are available to view on the Internet Archive. An unaffiliated YouTube user also uploaded the interview, including some of the exchanges Trump featured in his post, demonstrating that people can, in fact, find multiple segments of the 2015 "Late Show" interview with Trump available on YouTube. The video Trump shared also appeared to frame the interview as more complimentary of the president. For example, in one moment, host Stephen Colbert said: "I want to thank you for running for president, because I'm not going to say this stuff writes itself, but you certainly do deliver it on time every day." However, the video Trump posted cuts off before Colbert reaches the punchline — "you certainly do deliver it on time every day" — making the bit sound less like a joke and more like straightforward praise. This is not the first time Trump has falsely claimed that CBS tried to suppress his 2015 "Late Show" interview. News outlets reported in 2018 that Trump reposted a video of the interview on X, then known as Twitter, with either the same or similar messaging and editing as his 2025 Truth Social post. The 2018 clip Trump reposted is no longer available on the original X page because the account got suspended, but Colbert responded in an Oct. 18, 2018 post on the same platform and linked to the same YouTube videos as above: At the time, The Associated Press reported that a spokeswoman for CBS said full episodes of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" are only available to stream online 30 days after the initial airing. That statement appears to align with the timeline of which episodes are available online as of this writing. We reached out to CBS to confirm that this timeline is still in place and will update this story if they respond. Bowden, John. "Trump Shares Tweet Claiming CBS Suppressed His Appearance on Colbert." UNC punches ticket to Super Regionals with win over Oklahoma

UNC punches ticket to Super Regionals with win over Oklahoma The UNC baseball program is headed to the Super Regionals. After losing on Sunday night in a championship matchup against Oklahoma, the Tar Heels faced a do-or-die game on Monday afternoon. The rematch between the Sooners and Tar Heels was everything a North Carolina fan wanted, with the Diamond Heels taking the win 14-4 in dominant fashion. After pitching ace Jake Knapp and starters Jason DeCaro and Aidan Haugh, Scott Forbes started freshman Ryan Lynch on the mound, who had seen one start previously all season. Lynch threw 5.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. He threw 82 pitches, the most he had all season in a single game. Walker McDuffie closed out the game as he also does, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts. The pitching performance between Lynch and McDuffie played a mighty role in this win as both teams were forced to rely on a pitcher who wasn't a normal starter. The Sooners started Reid Hensley and ended the game having played seven different pitchers on the mound. However, it wasn't all pitching; Scott Forbes' lineup also put up 14 runs, led by the man himself, Gavin Gallaher. Gallaher went 4-for-6 at the plate with four runs, two home runs, and four RBIs. He is now batting .323 on the season, one of the best on the team. He had a dynamic weekend and is a large part of UNC's success this weekend. On top of Gallaher on Monday afternoon, Jackson Van De Brake went 3-for-6 with three runs, a home run, and two RBIs as the captain got it going. Only two batters went hitless in the game, and only two batters failed to knock in at least one RBI against Oklahoma. The Tar Heels will advance to the super regionals and, as the No. 5 seed in the nation, will host Arizona in what will now be the Chapel Hill Super Regional next weekend. No. 5 overall seed North Carolina beats Oklahoma 14-4 to win Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Gavin Gallaher went 4 for 6 with two home runs and four RBIs to help No. 5 overall seed North Carolina beat Oklahoma 14-4 on Monday to win the Chapel Hill Regional. The Tar Heels (45-13) move on to host a best-of-3 super regional as one of the top eight remaining seeds. Hunter Stokely had a two-run double in the top of the first inning, and Alex Madera singled in a run as North Carolina scored three unearned runs off Reid Hensley (4-2) and never trailed. Drew Dickerson hit a two-run homer off Ryan Lynch in the second to get the Sooners within a run. That was it for Oklahoma until Jason Walk hit a solo shot in the seventh off reliever Walker McDuffie. North Carolina answered with four runs in the third behind RBI singles from Madera, Sam Angelo and Carter French for a 7-2 lead. Jackson Van De Brake had a two-run homer and Gallaher hit a solo shot in the eighth. Gallaher capped the scoring with a three-run homer in the ninth. Lynch (5-1) allowed two runs on five hits in five innings. McDuffie allowed two runs on two hits over the final four for his seventh save. North Carolina is making its 36th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels have advanced to the College World Series 12 times — including last season — with back-to-back championships in 2006-07. Oklahoma (38-22) was making its 41st appearance in the tournament. ___ AP college sports:
