Police confirm body found in Bangsar construction site is missing British tourist, no foul play suspected
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — The body of a man who was discovered at a construction site in Bangsar yesterday has been confirmed to be that of missing Englishman Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that Johnson-Doyle's uncle identified the deceased based on his tattoo.
'It is hereby confirmed that the body found is that of Jordan Johnson-Doyle who was reported missing on June 2.
'The cause of death is that of chest injury due to fall from height following an autopsy conducted earlier.
'No criminal elements were found at the scene. The case is classified as a sudden death report,' he said in a statement here.
Yesterday, police confirmed that they had found the body of an unidentified man near the lift shaft on the lower level of a construction site at Bangsar Hill Park.
Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, had gone missing while on a solo trip across South-east Asia.
He had been travelling for the past year while working remotely as a software engineer for a US-based company.
He was last heard from on May 27, after sending his friend a photo from Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
His family grew concerned when they could not reach him by phone and saw that his social media accounts had gone silent, prompting them to file missing person reports.

Among them was Nasir Ab Hamid, 69, who said sheer will and determination have been his family's main source of strength in forging ahead despite now living with minimal means after losing most of their belongings in the fire. 'My family and I are grateful to be alive and to have received support from the community and various parties. However, I hope the recovery process, particularly the promised rebuilding of our home, can be expedited so that life can return to normal,' he said. Nasir's house remains without a roof, except for the garage, and the interior was devoid of furniture or electrical appliances, which had been destroyed in the intense heat of the fire. Nasir lives in the house alone, sleeping in the garage on a mattress he received from the temporary relief centre. 'Although I received financial assistance to rent a house, I feel more comfortable staying in my own home as I can also keep an eye on what's left of my belongings while my wife and four of our children occupy the rented house,' he said, expressing hope that the government would expedite the repair process for all victims' homes. Another resident, Ahmad Danial, 25, said that their lives are no longer the same, especially with the lingering trauma still deeply affecting the entire family. 'There are no major preparations (for Aidiladha). The house is still in ruins, making it difficult to gather comfortably with the family. We are relying on donations from local associations and neighbours,' he said, adding that he lost his job following the incident. Ahmad Kamarul Meskam, 42, expressed despair for not being able to gather with his siblings for Aidiladha after their mother's house was destroyed in the incident. He said before the fire, they lived in the same village. 'We have no plans to celebrate Aidiladha since we are now living in separate areas.,' he said, admitting that the tragedy has left a profound emotional impact. It is understood that the Kampung Sungai Baru Residents Association will hold a sacrificial ritual in conjunction with Aidiladha on Sunday on a plot of land in the village, thanks to donations of several cows and goats from an anonymous benefactor. The gas pipeline fire, which occurred at 8.10am, resulted in flames shooting up 30 metres high, with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius. Firefighters took nearly eight hours to completely extinguish the fire. A total of 81 houses were destroyed, with more than 40% of the structures sustaining structural damage; 81 other houses were partially destroyed, 57 houses were affected but not burned, and 218 houses remained unaffected.

No injuries reported in underground gas blast at Bukit Minyak Industrial Area

(Penang fire and rescue department pic) PETALING JAYA : An underground gas explosion occurred near a sewer line at the Bukit Minyak Industrial Area in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, today. Penang fire and rescue department said an emergency call was received at about 2.45pm. The department said it was a single explosion and that the team was monitoring the air quality at the site at Lengkok Perindustrian Bukit Minyak 2. 'Initial reports confirmed that no victims were involved,' it said in a statement. The operation involved 16 personnel from the Bandar Perda and Sungai Bakap fire stations, including a hazmat team from the Sungai Bakap station. The department later said the hazmat squad reported that a neutral reading was recorded from the sewer fluid, and confirmed there were no other hazards. As the sewer line fell under Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd's jurisdiction, the firm will follow up on the matter.

Penang councils call for action after bribery, extortion claims in videos
Several video clips on social media have made allegations against city council staff of bribery, abuse of power, extortion and physical threats. PETALING JAYA : The two city councils in Penang have called for action over viral video clips alleging bribery and abuse of power by council staff in dealings with business operators. The Penang island city council called for an investigation into two viral videos alleging bribery for allowing foreign nationals to operate businesses, Bernama reported. The videos, circulated on TikTok, also allege that council enforcement officers applied double standards in their operations. Separately, the Seberang Perai city council said that it has launched an internal investigation into another viral video in which a man alleges that council officers abused their powers at his friend's business premises. The viral video, which runs for two minutes, includes claims of extortion, threats against customers, wrongful detention of foreigners, and even an incident in which a local man was allegedly slapped after being mistaken for a foreign national. The Penang island city council said two videos circulated on TikTok contained 'numerous false and biased claims which amount to slander and misrepresentation of the council'. It called for an investigation by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. The council said city councillors Tan Soo Siang, R Harikrishnan, Muhammad Khairul Mohd Ali, and Abdul Razak Rahman had also lodged police reports against the person who posted the videos. The Seberang Perai council said an internal investigation has been launched and a meeting held with the business owner involved to gather detailed information about the incident. The council urged the business owner to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if there was genuine evidence of corruption involving council staff.
