Briton dies in Malaysia after missing appeal
The death of a British man in Malaysia has been confirmed by the Foreign Office after a mother appealed over her missing son. Backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, from Southport, was last seen in Kuala Lumpur on the evening of 27 May, his mother Leanne Burnett said. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it was assisting the family of a British man who died in Malaysia and was in contact with local authorities. In a social media appeal for assistance in the search for her son, Ms Burnett said Mr Johnson-Doyle's family had been working with Malaysian police to try and find him. Police in Kuala Lumpur reportedly found a body at a construction site in Bangsar on Wednesday, according to Malaysian media. Ms Burnett previously told the BBC she had flown out to Malaysia earlier this week to try and help in the search. Merseyside Police said it had received a report on 30 May that Mr Johnson-Doyle had gone missing in Malaysia. "Our international liaison officers are working with the relevant authorities in Malaysia together with the UK Missing Persons Unit and enquiries are in the process of being carried out," a spokesperson said. Jordan Johnson-Doyle: Body found in search for British backpacker who went missing in Malaysia
A British backpacker who was missing for over a week has been found dead at the bottom of a lift shaft in Malaysia, police have said. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, vanished after last being seen at a bar in Kuala Lumpur on 27 May. Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that his body was identified by a relative based on a body tattoo, according to local news website FMT. The software engineer, from Southport, had spent the past 18 months travelling around across Asia while working remotely for a US company, his mum said. His mother, Leanne Burnett, told the Liverpool Echo that her son's last known location was Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. He is believed to have then visited a nearby bar called The Social. She alerted authorities last Friday because she hadn't heard from him in three days. An appeal on social media read: "My son is missing in Kuala Lumpur. "Please help us find him, all his family and friends are so worried. Please please share share share." This week his family flew out to Malaysia to help local officials with the search. But his body was found in a construction site lift shaft in Bangsar, a suburb of the Malaysian capital, on Wednesday, authorities said. A post mortem found the cause of death was a chest injury due to a fall from height. Kuala Lumpur police said they are not treating the death as suspicious. The police chief said in a statement to MalaysiaToday: 'It is hereby confirmed that the body found is that of Jordan Johnson-Doyle who was reported missing on 2 June. 'The cause of death is that of chest injury due to fall from height following an autopsy conducted earlier. 'No criminal elements were found at the scene. The case is classified as a sudden death report.' An FCDO spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Malaysia and are in contact with the local authorities.' The family previously spoke of their agony during the search. Ms Burnett told the Liverpool Echo: 'I have been been feeling just sick, numb. I just want to get over there, find him and bring him home. 'I want him to know we're looking for him and we're coming to get him.'

A body found in a lift shaft in Malaysia has been identified as that of a missing British tourist who disappeared more than a week ago while backpacking in Asia. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, was last seen on May 27 at a bar in an upmarket suburb in Kuala Lumpur, sparking a police probe and a search by his parents. Malaysian police confirmed today that a body found at the base of a lift shaft on Wednesday, tragically, belonged to the missing backpacker. Police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said they had received information that a man was found lying on his back in the lift [shaft] on the ground floor of a construction site'. A post-mortem 'found that the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height,' he said. 'No criminal elements were found at the scene and the case has been classified as a sudden death report,' he said, adding the body was identified by the victim's uncle based on a tattoo. Mr Johnson-Doyle sent his best friend, Owen, a photo of a poster at the Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar in the evening of Tuesday, May 27 before he disappeared. Family and friends had been trying to reach the young software engineer before his phone went dead on Friday, May 30. His mother Leanne Burnett, 44, told the Free Malaysia Today news website that her husband had travelled to Kuala Lumpur to look for their son, adding that the family was 'distraught' over his disappearance. Brickfields district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed to AFP that Johnson-Doyle was identified as the victim. A FCDO Spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Malaysia and are in contact with the local authorities.' The young man had been backpacking around the Mediterranean and South East Asia for around a year and a half while working remotely for an American company. Ms Burnett had said last week that her son always checked in with family, knowing 'how worried everyone gets at home'. Last Wednesday, she said she checked the 'Find My iPhone' tracking service for the location of her son's mobile phone, and saw it was located at a residential flat block near the bar. Mr Johnson-Doyle's phone went dead on Friday, May 30, three days after he was last seen. He had arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after previously visiting Vietnam, and is believed to have been staying at the Robertson Residences at Bukit, Kuala Lumpur. His mother said she last spoke to him on Monday, May 26, and that they had spoken about their working days. She said: 'He seemed absolutely fine and normal. Nothing stood out whatsoever. We always end the phone call with "love long time" and that was the very last thing we said to each other.' As well as reporting him missing to Merseyside Police, she also contacted the British Consulate and police in Malaysia. She said the family had also tried to contact the hotel where he is believed to have been staying, but struggled due to the language barrier. 'It has been awful,' she said. 'But all his friends and family have been rallying round.' Loving messages of support were shared from around the world as police confirmed the tragic news. Writing on Facebook, one user posted to the family: 'So sorry for your loss [...] May his soul rest in peace, may God comfort n give strength to you n family in this difficult times. Sending love & hugs from Ipoh, Malaysia.' 'Deepest condolences & heartfelt sympathy to the family,' wrote another.
