E-hailing rider dragged 15 metres after being hit by bus in Pasir Gudang
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a case where an e-hailing rider was dragged for about 15 metres after being hit by a bus at the traffic light intersection of Jalan Masai Kong Kong and Jalan Berlian 12 in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
Seri Alam district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi, Ishak said the accident occurred after the victim ran a red light, leaving the bus driver unable to stop in time.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"The accident involved a Hino bus driven by a 54-year-old man and a Honda EX5 motorcycle ridden by a 20-year-old man, who works as a part-time e-hailing rider.
"Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at around 6pm when the bus was heading straight through a green light from the direction of Kong Kong towards Masai.
"Suddenly, the motorcyclist emerged from the left junction at Jalan Berlian 12 when the traffic light was red, entering the path of the oncoming bus.
"The driver was unable to brake in time and collided with the victim, who was thrown onto the road and dragged for approximately 15 metres before the bus came to a stop," he said in a statement.
Mohd Sohaimi said the rider, who sustained serious injuries, was taken by ambulance to Sultan Ismail Hospital, where he is being treated in the red zone and remains unconscious. The bus driver was uninjured.
He also advised road users to remain patient, and to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times.
"Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the police at 07-3864222 to assist in the investigation," he added.
