Edmonton Oilers sign forwards David Tomasek, Josh Samanski to contracts
Both contracts will start next season, with Tomasek's valued at US$1.2 million.
The 29-year-old Tomasek, from Prague, played last season in the Swedish Elite League. He led the league in points (57) and assists (33) while ranking third in goals (24) as Farjestad BK won its first regular-season league title since 2018-19.
The six-foot-two, 187-pound forward also had a goal and three assists to help Czechia win gold at the 2024 world hockey championship
Tomasek has also played in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League and Finland's Liiga.
The six-foot-five, 190-pound Samanski has spent the past four seasons primarily with the Straubing Tigers of the top German league.
He has 40 goals and 53 assists in 193 regular-season games and five goals and six assists in 30 playoff appearances.
Samanski, 23, who was born in Erding, Germany, but has Canadian citizenship, led the Tigers with 14 goals and shared the team lead with 26 assists this past season.
The Oilers return to action Thursday at San Jose.

New Devils Projected Top Six Has Interesting Look
The New Jersey Devils certainly have some decisions to make when it comes to their NHL roster. After bringing in multiple new players, there should be plenty of competition during training camp. This is especially so when noting that they also have young players who should be competing for spots, too. Recently, the NHL's official Facebook account shared their top six projection for the Devils heading into the 2025-26 campaign. For the Devils' first line, they naturally had Jack Hughes at center, with Ondrej Palat and Jesper Bratt as his wingers. Hughes and Bratt have incredible chemistry, so it's a no-brainer that they should be playing together again next season. As for Palat, he saw time in New Jersey's top six last season, but also only posted 15 goals and 28 points in 77 games last season. As for the Devils' second line, they have Nico Hischier down the middle, with Timo Meier and Stefan Noesen as his wingers. Hischier and Meier sticking together would not be surprising in the slightest, as they have played well together. As for Noesen, he was solid last season, setting new career highs with 22 goals and 41 points in 78 games. Perhaps this could help him get a spot on the Devils' second line next season. However, the Devils have other players to consider for their top six who were not included in the NHL's projected lineup. A few players to watch include Dawson Mercer, Evgenii Dadonov, and Arseny Gritsyuk. New Penguins Top Six Projection Has Intriguing Look
The Pittsburgh Penguins brought in several new players this off-season, so their lineup will certainly look different next season. They will also have plenty of decisions to make when it comes to assembling their lineup, so they will need to be watched closely during the pre-season. The NHL's official Facebook account recently shared its top six projection for the Penguins, and it offers a mix of everything. For the Penguins' first line, they are predicting that Sidney Crosby will center Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust. If Rust and Rakell both end up not being traded this off-season, it would not be surprising if they played on a line with Crosby.
