Unique Fire eyes global expansion after Main Market transfer
KUALA LUMPUR: Fire protection solutions provider Unique Fire Holdings Bhd is gearing up for international expansion, driven by product innovation, certification efforts, and an increased local presence, following its recent transfer from the ACE Market to the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia.
At 9 am, the company debuted on the Main Market at 37.5 sen, unchanged from its closing price on the ACE Market, with 46,000 shares traded.
Its executive director Datuk Marcus Liew Kang Leong said the group is actively strengthening its portfolio through three major growth initiatives.
"Last year, we entered into a joint venture with a Chinese partner to manufacture fire sprinklers.
"We are currently undergoing the underwriters laboratories (UL) certification process, which takes about 12 months to 18 months,' he told a press conference held in conjunction with the company's listing transfer ceremony here today.
Once certified, Liew said the UL endorsement, one of the stringent global standards for fire safety equipment, will enable the company to export its products to key markets, including the Middle East, Europe, the United States (US), and other parts of the world.
Liew also addressed concerns regarding the US-imposed tariffs, noting that the company is currently not affected, as most of its revenue is still generated in Malaysia.
"We rarely export to the US at this point. Even if tariffs are introduced later, we expect them to apply equally to all exporters. Malaysia's tariff rate is in the mid-range,' he said.
Apart from that, Liew also said that the company has expanded to Penang and Johor Bahru.
"With this expansion, our sales have grown tremendously. The goal of these two expansions is not just to showcase our product capabilities, but to create greater convenience for our customers,' he added.
Unique Fire, a distributor of fire protection systems, equipment, and accessories, also manufactures and distributes custom graphics designed for fire extinguishers.
The company has since expanded its activities, and today, it is primarily involved in the assembly, manufacture, and distribution of active fire protection systems, equipment, and accessories for built environments, including fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, fire hoses, fire alarms, and detection devices.
Unique Fire, which debuted on the ACE Market in August 2022, has made strong strides in financial performance and operational growth. - Bernama

Pan Merchant sees opportunities in wastewater treatment, sustainable fuel sectors
PETALING JAYA: ACE Market newcomer Pan Merchant Bhd, a provider of solid-liquid filtration solutions, is prioritising emerging industries such as wastewater treatment and sustainable fuel to drive business growth and expand untapped markets. Managing director Wong Voon Ten said the company sees rising demand for sustainable fuel solutions from major energy players, driven by the global push towards decarbonisation and cleaner energy sources. 'In Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region, we also see significant opportunities in water treatment projects, especially as governments and water service providers continue to increase capital expenditure to upgrade water infrastructure. 'On top of that, we are actively tendering for projects to sustain our earnings growth. 'Currently, our tender book has grown to a substantial level, with more than half derived from the potable water and wastewater treatment industry, while the remainder comprises projects from edible oil, sustainable fuel, and other industries,' he said at the company's listing ceremony on Bursa Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur today. Wong said the company remains committed to its core strength in the edible oil industry. 'As a trusted and irreplaceable partner to our end-users, we are recognised for our consistent quality and reliability, and we will continue to play a vital role in supporting refineries and processing operations. We are also focused on expanding our presence in strategic regions where edible oil production is critical,' he added. Wong emphasised the significant potential and growing demand for solid-liquid filtration solutions in the water treatment and sustainable fuel industries, expressing confidence in the group's ability to secure projects in such industries, backed by its 38-year track record of product quality and reliability. As of April 30, the group's potential project pipeline spans key industries, with the largest portion coming from the potable water and wastewater treatment segment, followed by projects in edible oil, sustainable fuel, mining, food processing, and other industrial segments. Pan Merchant's share price opened at 23.5 sen compared to the initial price offering (IPO) price of 27 sen per share. It closed at 23 sen, 4 sen or 14.8% below the IPO price, on 5.576 million shares traded. The company's IPO entailed a public issue of 232.2 million new shares and an 18 million offer-for-sale shares, at an issue price of 27 sen per share, representing 27.3% of the enlarged share capital. The overall value of the IPO is RM67.6 million, with Pan Merchant receiving RM62.7 million and the offeror receiving the remaining RM4.9 million. Out of the total proceeds of RM62.7 million, RM28 million will be used for capital expenditure on manufacturing plants, including the acquisition of machinery, equipment, and tools, as well as the renovation of its manufacturing facilities. A further RM7 million will be allocated for product development, and the remaining RM27.7 million for business expansion, working capital, and defraying of listing expenses. Pan Merchant plans to use part of its IPO proceeds to acquire advanced computer numerical control and robotic welding machines, which are expected to enhance production efficiency, to meet the growing demand for filtration equipment and replacement parts both locally and internationally. As of May 6, the group's order book stood at RM69.6 million, comprising orders for filtration equipment, replacement parts, and steel works. The order book is expected to be fulfilled within the next 12 months. Affin Hwang Investment Bank Bhd serves as the principal adviser, sponsor, sole placement agent, and sole underwriter for Pan Merchant's IPO exercise.

Chinese cafe goes viral over coffee drink laced with cooked pig intestine
A cafe in southwestern China has been thrust into the limelight thanks to its newly launched coffee, which is made with cooked pork intestines. The unconventional drink sold in the coffee shop in Jiangyou, a small city in Sichuan province, includes latte mixed with cooked pork intestine liquid and chitterlings, The Cover reported. It sells for 32 yuan (US$4) per cup and has three levels of taste: entrance, mid and high. The higher the level, the stronger the intestine taste. 'Red-braised pork intestine is a popular cuisine in Jiangyou,' Zhang Yuchi, owner of the coffee shop, was quoted as saying. 'I thought of combining it with coffee to promote both my shop as well as this delicious food of our city.' They buy the cooked pork intestines from a famous restaurant in the city, then mix the intestine liquid into the latte, said Zhang. 'We add precisely 6 grams of intestine liquid into the coffee. It is an amount we decided on after rounds of tests. We want customers to taste the delicacy of intestines but we do not want to diminish the coffee flavour. We hope most people can accept it,' said Zhang. He said it has a salty and sweet taste, like that of 'salty cheese'. Since the drink went viral online in early June, the shop's sales have more than quadrupled, with 80 per cent of customers trying out the unusual drink. 'I am a fan of coffee. I saw someone recommending this type of intestine coffee, so I decided to give it a try,' a woman customer who travelled from Chengdu, Sichuan, told the media. Another customer, from northern China, said it tasted just fine. 'Many people in northern China do not eat pork intestines. But I think they can accept this type of coffee,' she said. Many people on mainland social media were fascinated by the story. 'It is not a bad idea. I want to try it,' one online observer said. But another person said: 'It is ridiculous. I am OK with both coffee and pork intestines. But not a combination of the two.' Creative coffee drinks often make headlines in China. A coffee shop in eastern Jiangxi province raised eyebrows by putting fried chilli and hot pepper powder in their lattes. A cafe in Yunnan province, southwestern China, also trended on social media by mixing deep-fried worms with coffee. - SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST

Short-term impact on oil prices from Israel-Iran conflict: Amir Hamzah
KUALA LUMPUR: The Israel-Iran conflict is expected to have only a short-term impact on crude oil prices, according to Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He said that while prices surged sharply during renewed hostilities, oil prices quickly retreated as signs of peace talks and ceasefire efforts emerged between the two countries. Amir Hamzah highlighted that despite initial volatility, market stability returned as fears of prolonged conflict and supply disruption subsided, reinforcing the government's confidence in managing the situation amid ongoing global economic uncertainty. 'Oil prices rose sharply when the conflict occurred. However, with the onset of peace talks, prices have declined. For now, the overall impact appears to be short term,' he told reporters at the Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Bhd (SME Bank) 2025 Budget Initiative launch today. Amir Hamzah emphasised that peace is crucial not only for humanity but also for sustaining economic stability. 'We hope that efforts towards peace talks will continue, and Malaysia will remain steadfast in supporting all initiatives to maintain peace in the region,' he said. Oil prices briefly jumped by about 7% earlier this month due to fears that the war between Israel and Iran could disrupt supply. But prices have since fallen back to around US$67 per barrel after tensions eased and talks began. Meanwhile, a fragile ceasefire seemed to be holding for a second day today. SME Bank has launched a suite of strategic initiatives valued at RM211 million, reinforcing its commitment to advancing the government's Madani Economic Framework and aligning with the bank's mandate under Budget 2025. Focused on high-impact sectors such as technology, tourism, halal, and environment, social and governance, these initiatives also promote inclusivity by empowering B40 and asnaf entrepreneurs, reinforcing SME Bank's role in building a resilient and future-ready MSME ecosystem. Amir Hamzah said the initiatives reflect the country's future direction towards a more modern, sustainable, and competitive economy. In line with the Madani Economic Framework, Amir Hamzah, said Budget 2025 has provided extensive support for MSMEs. 'This includes more than RM40 billion in the form of loans and guarantees, stamp duty exemptions to reduce the cost of financing access, and matching grants to support digitalisation and sustainable business practices.' He said the aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs, while ensuring they remain relevant in a future economic landscape driven by technology and sustainability agendas. 'Therefore, for 2025, the government has mandated SME Bank to roll out various initiatives with an allocation exceeding RM1 billion, including five new initiatives worth over RM200 million designed to support sustainable and inclusive growth for the MSME segment. 'The launch of these strategic programmes by SME Bank today is to realise the government's vision and aspiration to stimulate MSME-driven growth, strengthen domestic economic resilience, and in turn help maintain investor confidence in Malaysia,' Amir Hamzah said. SME Bank acting group president and CEO Datuk Dr Mohammad Hardee Ibrahim shared initiatives, including MySMELady 2.0, Umbrella Ecosystem Financing, Dana Kelestarian Alam, and Maju Usahawan Madani, which demonstrate an approach to nation-building and a commitment to strengthening the national entrepreneurial landscape. 'Additionally, we are also proud to roll out the fourth edition of the SME Bank iTekad Ishraf, a beyond-financing initiative designed to equip the B40 and asnaf entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to sustain and grow their businesses,' he said. Riding on this momentum, Mohammad Hardee said, the bank remains on track to achieve its RM3 billion approved financing target for this year, with continued emphasis on key strategic sectors, with RM2 billion already recorded as of May 2025. 'These achievements reaffirm our sustained role in fostering MSME development, in alignment with the government's Madani vision to build a more inclusive, resilient and future-ready Malaysia,' he said.
