Bullying allegations against ‘History of the Losers' stars resurface ahead of series premiere
K-drama actors Cho Byeong-Kyu and Song Ha-Yoon are at the center of controversy ahead of the premiere of their upcoming series 'History of the Losers', set to debut on February 26.
The show, based on the popular webtoon by Kim Poong and Sim Yoonsoo, explores love and relationships and how anyone can find themselves on the losing side. It will be available on Wavve and Watcha.
However, the release has been overshadowed by past bullying allegations against both actors. Cho Byeong-Kyu faced accusations of school violence, including claims that he harassed a classmate, shot them with a BB gun, and used verbal and physical intimidation. His agency, HB Entertainment, denied the claims, stating that the original accuser later admitted to fabricating the story.
Song Ha-Yoon, on the other hand, has been accused of assaulting a classmate during high school. Her agency, King Kong by Starship, has also denied the allegations, calling them 'entirely false' and threatening legal action.
Despite these controversies, 'History of the Losers' is set to proceed, with promotional efforts focusing on social media platforms. The actors' pasts have sparked debate among fans as the show's premiere approaches.

BTS megastars to reunite after military service
Two members of K-pop supergroup BTS were released from South Korea's mandatory military service on Tuesday and announced they wanted to start performing again "as soon as possible", prompting a fan frenzy, as reported by AFP. BTS, South Korea's most lucrative musical act, has been on a hiatus since 2022 while its seven members complete their military service. Hundreds of fans gathered at a site near the two army bases where band leader RM – recently named "Favorite K-pop Artist" at the American Music Awards – and singer V were separately discharged. Cheers broke out as they stepped out of different vehicles and hugged, with RM playing a quick song on the saxophone as V stood next to him smiling, holding bunches of flowers. "What we want most right now is to perform again," RM, still wearing his army uniform, told reporters and fans after his discharge. "We're working hard on the new album so we can return to the stage as soon as possible." RM said there had been "many difficult and painful moments" during his 18 months of military service. "Since returning, I've grown closer with my father and old friends – many of whom had already completed their military service," he added. V said military service was "a time for me to reset and rebuild both my body and mind". "Now that I've done that, I truly want to run straight to ARMY as soon as possible," he said, referring to the band's official fandom name. This week, four BTS members will complete their service. Two were discharged last year, and the final member, SUGA – who has been working as a social service agent for alternative non-active duty service – will be released later this month. HYBE, the band's agency, had urged fans not to go to the discharge location, citing safety concerns. Flouting the warning, dozens gathered outside V's military base, eagerly awaiting the return of their star. "Honestly, I came here with such high expectations," Yang Ho-hee, 28, told AFP outside the base. Reunion tour? On a football field where the newly released BTS members spoke, hundreds of fans from around the world gathered, hoping to catch a glimpse of their idols. RM and V later held a live chat on their superfan platform, Weverse, where fellow member Jin joined. "We have plans. Please wait just a little longer," said RM. "I've had time to recharge, so I'll make something good and show it to you. We'll make sure everyone knows that we're back." All the band members signed new contracts with their agency HYBE in 2023, and once SUGA is released on June 21, analysts expect profit-driving reunion activities. "In the case of HYBE share prices, the current market consensus is seen as not fully reflecting BTS's impact," Lim Soo-jin, an analyst at Daishin Securities, told AFP. Despite an ongoing police investigation into the company chairman for suspected insider trading and a recent raid by authorities, analysts say HYBE's shares are up, rising by 10 per cent over the past week through June 9. GDP impact Prior to their mandatory military service, the boy band generated more than 5.5 trillion won ($4 billion) in yearly economic impact, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. That accounts for roughly 0.2 per cent of South Korea's total GDP, according to official data. HYBE has hinted at a BTS comeback this year, but has also said the members "need time for reflection and preparation". "Normally, the process goes from song production to album release, then a tour," Lee Jae-sang, CEO of HYBE, told a shareholder meeting in March. "But since BTS have already become global top-tier artists, we are continuing discussions about their vision and what's next," Lee added. The HYBE headquarters building in Seoul was wrapped with the slogan "WE ARE BACK", the official logo for the upcoming BTS FESTA. HYBE shares opened nearly three per cent higher Tuesday morning, reaching their highest level in two years.

4 K-pop songs to help you kickstart your holidays
While many out there might be dreading the scorching approach of summer, the time to hit pause on your labour is also here. Sleeping in is a tempting alternative, but if a change of pace is long overdue, here are four K-pop songs to push into finally booking those tickets and taking off far away from home. 'Red Flavor' Red Velvet are the queens of summer bops, be it catchy electro-pop hits like Power Up or uptempo dance-pop tracks like You Better Know. But if we must narrow it down, their song Red Flavor takes the cake for being one of K-pop's finest earworms to kick the season off. From its addictive lyrics to its frisky choreo, the song has the motivation you're looking for to leave your bed and get the season officially started. 'Alcohol-Free' The list would be incomplete without Twice, the cheery sound of which will definitely make you want to pack your bags up for a poolside picnic. If you're looking for bops to elevate the holiday spirit, the girl group has got you covered. Even if you're not lounging by the pool with a refreshing fruit punch in your hands, Alcohol-Free tricks you into thinking you are. The bossa nova trickle serves what you need during your time off, easing you into the therapeutic vacation ahead. 'Holiday' The recovery phase is only one part of the sabbatical you've planned. Once that's done, it's time to amp things up because the party awaits. Perhaps you're looking to step outside your comfort zone this season, and if you need a push, Girls' Generation's Holiday is here for you. This funky, retro-meets-modern track is your companion through a glamorous makeover before you paint the town red with your best pals. But if you're more of a homebody, belting the jazzy lyrics into your hairbrush as you play dress-up does no harm either. 'Mixtape: Time Out' Adventurous souls might lean more towards the tides. After all, why wait for the rain when you can take a dip in the beach whenever you want to? In case your daring side requires a little nudge, Mixtape: Time Out by Stray Kids has the punk and pop rock edge that'll easily push you over. The sun can be merciless around this time of the year, but with the right company and music by your side, you'll find no issues frolicking close to the shoreline in this heat. BLACKPINK's Lisa to star in upcoming documentary
K-pop star Lisa, popularly recognised as a member of BLACKPINK, is exploring a new venture after her music career and acting credit in The White Lotus. As per Variety, it was announced on Thursday that the Money singer will be the subject of a documentary film from Sony Music Vision and director Sue Kim. Kim discussed her document at the Sony event, along with Baz Luhrmann and Frank Marshall, who also shared updates on their features. Kim, who was an executive producer on Apple TV+'s docuseries K-Pop Idols, said that she's been working with Lisa for a year, though no release date has been finalised. A trailer for the film was unveiled during the presentation, showing concert footage of the star performing solo and personal moments with her loved ones. Kim mentioned that after the two met up for the first time, Lisa reached out to her non-celebrity friends, asking them to appear in the documentary. "This has been such an incredible year, and I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to capture these special moments on film and share the experience with my fans," Lisa said in a statement. "Working with Sue Kim has been such a joy. We've been all around the world together and I know this is just the beginning of many more exciting things to come." The director also expressed enthusiasm in her own statement. "Following Lisa on this transformative and thrilling year has been a true honor and a cinematic gift," Kim said. "There have been so many moments on her journey that I think will surprise people and give a glimpse into her world that no one's ever seen before. I'm excited for viewers to watch the film and witness this extraordinary moment in her life." The news of the documentary comes after the release of Lisa's debut solo album, Alter Ego. Following BLACKPINK's hiatus, all four members branched out in pursuit of solo careers. The group is all set to reunite this year for a world tour. The Asia leg of their World Tour: Deadline kicks off in October, beginning with two nights at the Kaohsiung National Stadium. This will be followed by shows in Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, and Singapore. After a two-month break, the quartet will fly to Hong Kong to close out the tour in January. Deadline will mark BLACKPINK's return to the stage as a unit after the tour for their album Born Pink in 2023. It made history as the highest-grossing tour by a girl group, recording 1.8 million fans worldwide.
