Co-trainer Ben Hayes declared Lindsay Park had its 'best hand' to secure a first Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) following the barrier draw on Tuesday night.
Hayes was delighted when the stable's pair War Machine and Rise At Dawn drew barriers 13 and three.

War Machine has a stranglehold on Stradbroke favouritism at $2.70 with TAB fixed odds, while stablemate Rise At Dawn is the only other runner in single figures at $9.
'It is a race that has eluded us,' Hayes said.
'We had our (brother Ben, Will and JD) first runner last year and he (Here To Shock) unfortunately didn't go as well as we had hoped.
'But I think this year we've got the best hand we've ever had, and hopefully with a couple of nice draws there, we should get every chance.'
• 'Pressure is your friend': Cejay's tip to conjure Stradbroke fairytale
Hayes' nerves finally settled when War Machine's name was finally drawn with only four numbers left - 1, 2, 13 and 15.
'I don't actually mind barrier 13, it gives Tim Clark more options,' he said.
'There will be a lot of horses crossing from out wide so he should be able to get into that three-wide line and get a nice run in transit.'
Hayes said Rise At Dawn was 'definitely a danger' to the favourite.
'He gets a big drop in weight and he was bouncing this morning,' he said.
'We are confident he can run really well and barrier three gives him an opportunity to have a great run.'
Several local contenders drew inside gates with three-year-old filly Spicy Martini drawing four, The Inflictor six, Payline seven and Yellow Brick eight.
Trainer Craig Cousins, who only has three horses in work, said his fairytale horse The Inflictor is a big chance from his barrier.
'I've taken the week off driving trucks and I'm delighted he has drawn barrier six,' Cousins said.
'It is surreal I have a horse in the Stradbroke. I have turned 60 and it's been the greatest year of my life.
'If we win, I will be bawling my eyes out. Win, lose or draw on the weekend I am the happiest man in the world. From that barrier, we are a big chance.'
• Lloyd's dad to be trackside shot at Stradbroke history
Toby Edmonds, trying to win his second Stradbroke, said barrier four could be tricky for Spicy Martini.
'Look, it's good, but it could be detrimental too. There's a lot of speed out wide and we are a three-year-old filly towards the inside,' he said.
NSW trainer Matt Dale was lamenting barrier 20 for Front Page after connections paid a $90,000 late entry.
'It's not ideal, you come here thinking we are a chance but now we will have to dissect the field and the speed and go back in history and all those kind of things,' Dale said.
Rothfire, who still face more vets' scrutiny through the week, drew barrier 17, Private Eye received barrier 10 in his bid to win the Stradbroke first-up, while third favourite Golden Mile will jump from barrier two.

Andrew Mallyon on Sydney mission with Yellow Brick after Stradbroke Handicap near miss

For a fleeting moment, jockey Andrew Mallyon thought he was about to score his first Group 1 when Queensland hero horse Yellow Brick launched late in the Stradbroke Handicap. After only being denied by the brilliant winner War Machine, Mallyon is looking forward to reuniting with Yellow Brick as the galloper's Sydney spring carnival campaign kicks off at Randwick on Saturday. The former Victorian jockey turned Queenslander hasn't ridden much in Sydney, having one win at Randwick from the five rides he has had there. He wants to make it count when Tony and Maddy Sears -trained Yellow Brick lines up in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) on Saturday. There are uncontrollables such as the Sydney weather, but one thing Mallyon is sure of is Yellow Brick is heading to Sydney in fabulous form after finishing runner-up at $41 in the Stradbroke. 'Late in the Stradbroke, when I went past Private Eye, I thought we were a chance of winning,' Mallyon said. 'Some horses made their runs earlier than me and my horse had fresh legs to launch late. 'It wasn't to be, but he ran so well and backed up everything we had thought going into the race. 'The horse was flying on the track before the Stradbroke, he was working so well, but he didn't run as well as what we thought he would first-up at Doomben in the BRC Sprint. 'His trial also looked really plain, but in every bit of work he did in between I thought he was still on song. 'If you didn't have anything to do with the horse, you might have thought why would you bother running him in the Stradbroke? 'But I knew he was going well, it took me a month to get down to 53.5kg to ride him in the Stradbroke. 'Every time I galloped him, I didn't want to eat, I just wanted to ride him.' • Maloney aiming to turn back time at The Valley On Friday, Yellow Brick was rated an $8.50 chance to score in Sydney on Saturday. It is the first plank of a Sydney campaign which will hopefully culminate in a shot at the Group 1 Epsom Handicap over the famous Randwick mile on October 4. 'The weather and the track conditions are the only concern, as the horse is going really well,' Mallyon said. Mallyon is still searching for his first Group 1 win but said he has found a nice niche in the Queensland riding ranks after admitting it took him a while to get widespread support from trainers after he moved up from Victoria. Last season, Mallyon rode 97 winners nationally and finished equal fourth in the Brisbane jockeys' title with 46 winners. 'I am wanting to better that this season,' he said. 'It has taken a while to break through in Queensland, I have ridden for Kris Lees a lot but the wheel is starting to turn in terms of other trainers giving me more support. 'Matthew Dunn has been great to me and has really cemented my position riding in the city.'

Smart buy Petit Artiste chasing first 3YO win at The Valley on Saturday

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Smart filly Petit Artiste has already proven to be a shrewd piece of business irrespective of how she performs at The Valley on Saturday. The budget buy has already cemented her stud value with a two-year-old Listed win in Adelaide in April but will chase the first win of her three-year-old campaign in Saturday's Drummond Golf Plate. Co-trainer Amy Yargi said finding the daughter of dual European Group 1 winner Earthlight was a source of pride for herself and her husband Ash, with whom she trains in partnership. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'We only buy a couple of yearlings a year so to get a stakes-winning filly for 15 grand, we're very proud of her,' Yargi said. Petit Artiste has had two runs over 1000m this time in, finishing on the heels of the placegetters when resuming in a strong race at Flemington and running on well behind the unbeaten Esha at The Valley at her last appearance. • Where do Waller, J-Mac rate against other great Group 1 pairings? Yargi said the sectionals of Petit Artiste's latest run showed she was working up to a win. 'Esha was very impressive on the day but we ran a quicker last 600m, 400 and identical last 200m to her,' Yargi said. 'Our pattern of getting back like that makes it hard to make ground over the 1000(m) at The Valley but she was excellent.' Yargi said Petit Artiste's work at Mornington on Tuesday morning indicated she had continued on her upward spiral after her promising second-up run. 'She'd taken nice natural improvement going into The Valley and she's come on again,' Yargi said. 'She worked great on the course proper at Mornington and we're very pleased with how she's come into it.' Petite Artiste will tackle five rivals in Saturday's $150,000 assignment, which could develop into a tactical affair. Yargi said the camp would dissect the form before deciding on a plan for the race but added jockey Daniel Stackhouse was likely to keep things simple. 'Naturally she's going to be that little bit closer with the small field so we're not going to overcomplicate things just yet,' Yargi said. Petite Artiste is a $7 chance in early betting on The Valley's opening race. Originally published as Smart buy Petit Artiste chasing first 3YO win at The Valley on Saturday
