Germany car accident: Several people injured, driver arrested as probe continues
A vehicle slammed into a group of pedestrians in the southwestern German city of Stuttgart on Thursday, injuring several people, some of them seriously, authorities said. The driver was arrested at the scene.

While the Stuttgart fire department referred to the event as an 'accident' in a post on the social media platform X, police said it was too early to determine the cause.

The injuries happened at an above-ground subway stop in downtown Stuttgart, police said. The driver who was behind the wheel of the dark-colored Mercedes vehicle was arrested, a police spokesperson told reporters, according to news agency dpa.

An investigation was under way, and the area was cordoned off as emergency responders, police and forensic specialists examined the scene. Witnesses were being interviewed, and subway service through the area was suspended.
Photos from the scene showed plastic gloves, blankets and bags scattered on the ground near the SUV.

FBI warns of 'dangerous' hacking campaign linked to North Korean attack group
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in collaboration with the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), has issued a joint cybersecurity advisory following a surge in confirmed victims of Play ransomware attacks in May. The FBI reports that these threat actors have impacted over 900 organisations across North and South America, as well as Europe, including businesses and critical infrastructure providers. The updated advisory, released as part of the ongoing Stop Ransomware campaign, includes findings from new investigations this year that reveal an evolution in the cybercriminal group's tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs). The advisory aims to inform organisations on how to defend against these attacks. Who are the hackers, why this is dangerous and more details According to FBI (via Forbes) advisory, Play a closed ransomware group, operating independently to "guarantee the secrecy of deals" regarding exfiltrated data. Play ransomware is believed to be linked to Andariel, a North Korean state-sponsored attack group associated with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's "Reconnaissance General Bureau." Researchers suggest Play is an "integral part" of Andariel's cyberattack arsenal, distributed by threat groups such as Balloonfly. The hackers leave ransom notes with victims that do not include an initial demand or payment instructions. Instead, victims are directed to contact the attackers via email, often using unique German email domains. The FBI noted that some victims are contacted by telephone and threatened with data release to compel ransom payment. Balloonfly has been implicated in multiple incidents involving Play ransomware deployment, primarily against businesses in the US and Europe, often using a malware backdoor to infect Windows systems. Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center and Microsoft Security Response Center previously observed Play ransomware being deployed after attackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability in the Windows Common Log File System. Singh, 57, pleaded guilty to knowingly posting content on TikTok that accused the country's minister of making offensive remarks about a minority community. The video, uploaded in August 2024, falsely claimed that Singapore's Minister for Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo, had insulted the Malay community—who make up about 15 per cent of Singapore's population—during an interview with Chinese media. The court found that Singh made these claims without verifying the information, which he had received from an unknown source via WhatsApp. The TikTok video was viewed widely and prompted questions to the minister from her colleagues and a journalist. A police report was filed shortly after. Who Is Manmeet Singh And What Did He Claim? Indian-origin Manmeet Singh is known in Singapore for posting on socio-political topics through platforms like TikTok. He previously gained attention as the bodyguard of former presidential candidate Tan Kin Lian, and his TikTok account had over 9,000 followers at the time of the offence. On 12 August 2024, Singh received a link to a WordPress blog post from an unknown number. The blog falsely alleged that Josephine Teo had said 'Malays are i*****" during a media interview. Offended by the claim, Singh recorded a TikTok video with a caption repeating the allegation, telling his followers to 'go look it up". However, just hours after uploading the video, Singh began to doubt the credibility of the claim and took the video down. He also posted a follow-up video apologising to Teo and acknowledged that the allegation was likely false. However, despite this, a police complaint had already been filed by Teo's press secretary. Earlier in February, Singh was arrested and granted bail the following day. His defence lawyers had told the court that he was 'racked with guilt" and had no intent to spread hatred or misinformation. His counsel had stressed that Singh does not create content for profit or popularity, but as a form of expression on issues he feels strongly about. He has since taken steps to avoid political controversy and now checks the reliability of his sources more carefully. Under Singaporean law, promoting racial disharmony is a serious offence.
