Sevens won't go into 15 for try-machine Levi ahead of World Cup
On the day she named sevens converts Charlotte Caslick and Tia Hinds to make their starting debuts against New Zealand on Saturday, Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp revealed Levi and other sevens stars, including Teagan Levi and Bella Nasser, had made themselves unavailable for the national 15-a-side team.
Earlier in the year, nine sevens players elected to have a crack at making the Wallaroos' squad for August's World Cup, which entailed juggling a few games in Super Rugby Women with duties on the World Sevens Series. Caslick, Hinds and Bienne Terita then chose not to return to the sevens circuit to keep pushing for the World Cup.
Maddi Levi didn't play for the Reds due to a hand injury, but given her standing as the world's best women's sevens player, the Wallaroos were still planning for her to be involved in Tests this month ahead of the World Cup.
But Levi's manager, Mat Rogers, last month expressed reservation s about the switch, and suggested it would increase 'animosity' from the 15s players towards the sevens players.
'I just don't think it's an appropriate step to take now,' Rogers said on Stan Sport's Inside Line program. 'I'm speaking from Maddi's perspective purely out of care for her. I don't want her to be set up to fail, and I think that's what's happening if they pursue it further this year.
'I don't think she can [make the transition] in the time. She's not going to have enough game time. It's just unfair on her, and it's unfair on the squad to throw her in there and expect her to be a world-beater that she is in sevens. It's too much pressure.'
Yapp revealed on Thursday that the Levi sisters, Nasser, Kahli Henwood and Sariah Paki, had elected to take a break after the sevens season. Demi Hayes is also out after suffering another knee injury.

McReight to captain Wallabies, Valetini returns for second Boks clash
Queensland flanker Fraser McReight will lead the Wallabies for the first time after injured captain Harry Wilson was left out of a side to meet the Springboks again in Cape Town on Sunday. Wilson's absence with a knee injury will pave the way for a seamless return of star No.8 Rob Valetini, however, after the Brumbies backrower missed the third Lions Test in Sydney and historic win over the Boks at Ellis Park with a calf injury. Valetini, who also missed the Fiji Test and first Lions Test with the calf issue, was superb in his only half against the second Test against the Lions in Melbourne Wilson left the field in Johannesburg with a knee issue and though scans cleared him of major damage, a Wallabies press release said the big No.8 was being 'managed'. The shift at No.8 was one of only three changes to a relatively settled starting, with confirmation the fastest man in Australian rugby, Corey Toole, will make his starting debut on the left wing in the place of Dylan Pietsch (broken jaw), and Tom Robertson picked to start at loosehead prop after James Slipper (HIA) was ruled out. In a sign of how valuable Angus Bell's impact from the bench is now seen, Robertson has come from outside the 23-man squad that won for the first time in 62 years at Ellis Park on Sunday. It's Toole-time for the Wallabies as history beckons
Speedster Corey Toole will make his Test debut in one of three changes to the Wallabies starting side as they attempt to go back-to-back against the Springboks in South Africa for the first time since 1963. The 25-year-old Paris Olympics sevens star will replace injured winger Dylan Pietsch for their Rugby Championship clash in Cape Town on Sunday (1.10am AEST). Skipper Harry Wilson has failed to overcome a knee issue with Rob Valetini making a timely return at No.8, while Tom Robertson will start in the front row after James Slipper was ruled out after a head knock. Wilson's Queensland teammate Fraser McReight will lead the side, the flanker becoming the 91st player to captain Australia. After their astounding 38-22 comeback win over the Springboks last week at Ellis Park, the Wallabies are looking to duplicate the 1963 tourists, who claimed victories at Johannesburg and Cape Town. No Australian side has won in Cape Town in 33 years, with the Wallabies losing their last seven straight at the picturesque venue. ACT Brumbies flyer Toole has been knocking at the door for a Test call-up for the past three years and likely would have made his debut last year but was drafted into Australia's sevens teams for Paris. With the more versatile Andrew Kellaway remaining on the bench, Toole's start comes after Pietsch required surgery on a fractured jaw after his tackle went wrong. Known as the fastest man in Australian rugby, Toole has been one of the Brumbies' best performers in the past three seasons, bagging 28 tries. Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said the side had recovered well after the physical encounter at altitude and had identified their slow start - trailing 22-0 - as an area they needed to improve. "The squad as a whole has recovered pretty well from what was a very draining and physical Test match on the highveld last week," he said in a statement."We struggled to contain a powerhouse Springbok start last weekend and we know that we have to improve leading into what's likely to be a bruising encounter in Cape Town." Rather than match South Africa's six-two bench split, Schmidt has retained the five-three selection among his reserves, although has replaced Langi Gleeson with Nick Champion de Crespigny.
