Marcus Rashford says Man Utd ‘in no man's land' as transition ‘has not started'

Marcus Rashford has described Manchester United as being in 'no man's land' after failing to commit to a clear strategy in recent seasons, claiming the transition 'has not started yet' under Ruben Amorim.
Rashford, 27, left his boyhood club for a season-long loan at Barcelona last month, having finished the previous season with Aston Villa after falling out of favour following Amorim's arrival and a December interview in which the England international said he was seeking a 'new challenge'.
United laboured to a 15th-placed finish under the Portuguese head coach last term, their lowest-ever finish in the Premier League era, but Rashford said the club's problems run much deeper as they have tried six different permanent managers, each with a different approach, since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Rashford said: 'We have been way below where we deem United to be but then if you take a step back, which I've been able to do, especially over these last six months, what do you expect?

'People say that we've been in a transition for years but to be in a transition you have to start a transition. The actual transition has not started yet.
'When Liverpool went through this, they got (Jurgen) Klopp, they stuck with him. They didn't win in the beginning. People only remember his final few years when he was competing with (Manchester) City and winning the biggest trophies.
'To start a transition, you have to make a plan and stick to it. It's not easy to do. But this is where I speak about being realistic with what your situation is. We've had that many different managers, different ideas and different strategies to win that you end up in no man's land.'
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought a minority share in the club in late 2023, his Ineos group has taken control of football operations and sought to implement a clearer plan. This summer they have spent more than £200million to bring in forwards Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
But Rashford said United have forgotten the principles instilled by Ferguson, who won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups and four League Cups during a 26-year reign at Old Trafford.
'When Ferguson was in charge, not only were there principles for the first team but they were for the whole academy,' Rashford said. 'So you could pick players from 15 years, a full generation, and they'd all understand the principles of playing the Manchester United way.
'Any team that has been successful over a period of time, they have principles that mean that any coach or player that comes in has to align to or add to the principles.
'At times, United were hungry to win… but it was reactionary. If your direction is always changing, you can't expect to win the league.'
Rashford made 426 appearances for United, scoring 138 goals and providing 42 assists, but appears to have played his last game for the club, with Barcelona's loan deal including an option to buy which reportedly stands at 35 million euros.

Where is the money going in the Premier League's Outright Winner market? Manchester United receive 32.9 percent of stakes placed in the past fortnight

With the start of the Premier League season just a day away - let's take a look at where the money is going with Sky Bet in the Outright Winner market. Sky Bet have collated data since the market opened and it makes for some very compelling reading. Fresh off their 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final - Chelsea have had the most interest in the betting lines - with Enzo Maresca's side receiving 26.6 percent of total stakes placed. With the above in mind - for those who think the Blues can challenge for the title in 2025-26 - they are currently priced at 7/1 with Sky Bet. That is good for fourth-favourite. Meanwhile, Manchester United have had the second greatest interest according to Sky Bet - with 24.6 percent of stakes placed on the Red Devils since the market opened. United have had a particular uptick in interest of late - with them receiving 32.9 percent in the last fortnight. That's in large part thanks to the big moves they made in the transfer window - with big-name acquisitions in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Manchester United are 16/1 fifth-favourites to win their 14th title of the Premier League era. Liverpool and Arsenal are next - with the pair receiving 19.6 and 11.1 percent respectively. The Reds are the best-backed at 13/8 to win consecutive titles, while Arsenal are second at 9/4 to claim their first league title in more than two decades. Chelsea 26.4% Man Utd 24.6% (32.9% in the last fortnight) Liverpool 19.6% Arsenal 11.1% Man City 5% Newcastle 3.5% Tottenham 2.3% Leeds 1.8% Nottm Forest 1.1% Sunderland 1% Aston Villa 0.9% Everton 0.6% Crystal Palace 0.6% West Ham 0.3% Brighton 0.3% Burnley 0.2% Bournemouth 0.2% Wolves 0.1 % Brentford 0.1% Fulham 0.0%

Man Utd in talks to complete midfielder transfer after making Carlos Baleba swap decision

Manchester United made it clear to Brighton that Toby Collyer was not available in any Carlos Baleba swap deal with the midfielder instead poised to go to West Brom on loan Manchester United are close to sanctioning Toby Collyer's loan departure with the midfielder set to join West Brom temporarily after Brighton were told he was not going to be used in any deal for Carlos Baleba. ‌ The Red Devils have made their interest in the Cameroon midfielder known but the Seagulls are wanting around £100million before they sanction his departure. Those sort of funds are unlikely to be available at Old Trafford given their summer spree. ‌ It was suggested that United could use Collyer to lower Baleba's price tag, but according to Manchester Evening News, he will not be involved in any negotiations. ‌ Instead the 21-year-old is set to join the Baggies as he looks to aid their Championship promotion push and his own personal development, reports the Athletic. The likes of Harvey Barnes have previously excelled after spending time on loan at the Hawthorns. Several second tier clubs were keen on Collyer but West Brom, where Ryan Mason is now manager, look to have won the race, which puts pay to Brighton's hopes of re-signing the midfielder. The United star was part of their pre-season trip to the United States and admitted he was ready to talk with club bosses over what was best for all parties. "I'll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what's the best solution for that. The best way for me to develop, whether it's stay here or go on loan," he said. Collyer came through the ranks at Brighton before leaving in 2022 and those in Manchester were surprised when the chance to sign him came up. He was considered one of the best midfielders in his age group and United jumped at the chance to snap him up. Collyer was born in Worthing, just 10 miles from Brighton, and was destined for a first-team spot at the Amex until he was released. Ruben Amorim's system in Manchester only allows for two midfielders to play - and one of those is likely to be captain and talisman Bruno Fernandes. The central midfielder made 19 first-team appearances for United last season. His most memorable contribution came in January's victory at Fulham when he cleared the ball off the line to help land a 1-0 win.

Rasmus Hojlund in Man Utd transfer U-turn as AC Milan look to sign frozen out striker

MANCHESTER UNITED will help Rasmus Hojlund find a new club if the striker wants out. It's understood that Hojlund is considering his options after United splashed out over £200million on a new strike force this summer. 2 2 After a stellar pre-season performance in United's 4-1 win over Bournemouth in Chicago, Hojlund expressed his desire to stay and fight for a place in Ruben Amorim 's 4-3-2-1 system. But in the last fortnight the 22-year-old striker's fortunes have changed and U-turn in his camp could be imminent. His long-term future was plunged into doubt last week after United signed striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £73.7million. And on the day of Sesko's unveiling to 65,000 fans at Old Trafford last Saturday, Hojlund was an unused sub for the final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina. Despite being the only recognised striker in the team, Amorim played Mason Mount as a false No.9 in United's penalty shootout win over the Serie A side. While United sources deny Hojlund has specifically been told he will not feature for United this season, his chances will be hard to come by. With the Red Devils out of Europe this season, there will not be as many opportunities to play in their reduced schedule. Hojlund, who signed for £72million from Atalanta in 2023, could be set for a return to Italy with AC Milan heading the queue of clubs interested. United would reportedly be willing to accept a loan deal worth £5million this season, with an option to buy next summer. It's understood that AC Milan won't want to pay more than £35million for the Dane. Wayne Rooney makes Premier League 2025/26 season predictions but his Man Utd tip leaves pundits shocked As yet, no agreement has been made on either element as Hojlund has still to make a firm decision about his short-term future. Boss Amorim has always spoken positively about Hojlund, whose deal expires in 2028 with an extension option available. A stay at Old Trafford, would see Hojlund competing for a place with Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Joshua Zirkzee. If Hojlund snubs Milan, the Italian giants might move for Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson and Paris Saint-Germain's Uefa Super Cup hero Goncalo Ramos. Hojlund struggled in his second season at the Red Devils and the United striker only netted 10 times and picked up four assists in 52 matches in the 2024-25 campaign.
