So it's no wonder that homeowners would love to turn their outdoor spaces into a Mediterranean paradise.
However, with the cost-of-living crisis still having a tight hold on people's purses, it can be hard to fork out on products for the garden.
Luckily, experts have revealed exactly how we can achieve this gorgeous look without breaking the bank.
Lucy Steele, a paint and interiors expert from Valspar Paint, has shared her five clever tricks for creating the Mediterranean aesthetic without spending a fortune.
She said: "The Mediterranean style is all about laid-back charm, sun-soaked colour palettes, rustic textures, and a mix of old-world elegance with natural elements.
"But transforming your space into a Mediterranean haven doesn't have to drain your savings.
"Here are some affordable hacks to help bring the breezy, coastal warmth of Southern Europe into your home, without booking a trip to Santorini.
"Mediterranean design is relaxed and unpretentious.
"Don't overthink it! Focus on comfort, simplicity, and a connection to nature.
"Even a few small touches can transport your home from ordinary to Mediterranean bliss."

Embrace a nature-inspired colour palette
You might not realise it, but the colours you choose to use in your garden can really set the tone of the space.
And Lucy says you should opt for a nature-inspired colour palette if you want to have a Mediterranean feel.
She said: "Think creamy whites, burnt oranges, sandy yellows, vibrant greens, and blues.
"You don't need to repaint the entire house, just focus on small areas. Try painting a single accent wall in warm terracotta or soft sand.
"The great thing about a Mediterranean palette is that it relies on rich neutrals, which are easy to incorporate throughout the home."

Create a garden oasis
A Mediterranean haven is all about creating the impression that summer never ends, which in turn creates a blissfully relaxing atmosphere.
And Lucy revealed that creating your own garden oasis is key to achieving this.
The expert revealed: "A Mediterranean garden creates the look of everlasting summer, full of colour, fragrant plants and flowers.
"It's the perfect inspiration for your garden.
"Herbs are a key part of a Mediterranean garden, so head to the herb section of your garden centre to form the backbone of your planting."
Focus on textures
It's not just colours that can have an impact on your outdoor space - textures are also important.
Lucy explains: "Mediterranean homes are all about texture, like stone tiles and rustic woods.
"For a low-cost hack, use a peel-and-stick faux stone backsplash instead of real stone or pricey plaster in your kitchen and bathroom.
"Wicker, rattan, and seagrass are also Mediterranean must-haves! They bring warmth, texture, and rustic island charm.
"Check second-hand shops and charity shops for vintage baskets or trays, and use things like placemats to add an earthy layer to your existing decor."

Hang sheer, breezy curtains
You might think that curtains only belong inside the home, but Lucy says it's time to bring them outside.
To create the perfect Mediterranean paradise, you should hang a few light-coloured, sheer, breezy curtains around your space.
She advises: "Mediterranean homes soak in natural light, and heavy curtains completely block that vibe.
"Opt for sheer white or cream curtains to create a breezy feel throughout the home and encourage sunlight to shine through.
"If you're crafty, make your own curtains from inexpensive fabric like muslin or even linen-look curtains!"
Three colours to paint your fence to will make your garden look bigger
IN a bid to help homeowners enjoy their outdoor space, garden experts have revealed how homeowners can be creative with the space they have.
And if you want to make your garden look bigger, they have a helpful trick up their sleeve. You might not realise it, but the colour of your fence can make a huge difference.
Matthew Lock, director of luxurious garden furniture specialists Luxus UK, revealed that painting your fence the right shade can trick the eye into thinking there's more space than there really is.
He said: "Light grey softens the boundaries of your garden, adding a subtle touch of elegance and allowing other design elements such as plants and garden furniture to stand out more.
'A soft shade of green can be another smart option, giving an earthy and homely look and feel and combining well with other greens in your garden such as your lawn or shrubs.
'Pastel colours in general, such as a soft pink or blue, are a popular choice in the UK, giving you a chance to make your space more vibrant without being domineering.
'Given that garden fence paint can start from around £10, you don't have to break the bank to give your outdoor space the transformation you want in time for summer.'
Use mirrors to reflect light
Mirrors aren't something you'd expect to see in the garden, but did you know they can make your outdoor space look bigger?
Lucy says adding a few around your space can create a gorgeous feature.
She explained: "Mediterranean interiors are airy and bright. Mirrors help bounce sunlight around.
"They are also a perfect feature for the garden, especially if you're working with limited space and sunlight.
"Mirrors can help blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a seamless transition from the house to the garden, which is a classic feature of Mediterranean architecture.
"Again, look for secondhand mirrors at car boot sales or charity shops for a lower-cost addition to the home.
"Or upcycle your current mirrors by repainting the frames in antique gold or distressed white for a more aesthetic feel."

The blonde beauty, who often does her food shopping in Asda, has taken to social media to reveal how she goes out for lunch with her little darlings without breaking the bank. Posting on her Instagram stories, the 35-year-old, who has a down to earth personality and is fiercely loyal, uploaded a sweet snap alongside her three daughters whilst at Yo Sushi. As Paris smiled alongside Venezuela, 15, Valencia, seven, and Athena, four, alongside the post, the influencer, who recently tied the knot for the third time to retired heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, 37, penned: 'Just for the parents on my gram - kids eat free here when you eat [sushi emoji].' The mother, who is said to have a secret wealth that is nothing to do with the Gypsy King's £100million fortune, then added: 'Good to know in school hols.' Parents looking to save cash when dining out are sure to be overjoyed to know that popular chain Yo Sushi on a mission to 'take the pressure off family weekday dinners and give the kids something to smile about this school holiday.' During the school holiday dates, kids can eat free all day in Yo Sushi restaurants when dining with a full-paying adult. While mums and dads can enjoy sushi and Japanese hot favourites, your little ones can tuck into one of their kiddo bento boxes absolutely free of charge. Foodies should know that there is a minimum spend of £10. Despite lucrative brand deals and Paris' secret private company, Paris Fury LTD, having recorded a yearly profit of almost £200,000, this isn't the first time this mother, who previously described herself as a 'DIY queen,' shared a relatable insight into her life. Inside mum-of-seven Paris Fury's glam bank holiday weekend away from the kids - from travelling in a private jet to night out partying with Tyson She may live in a 'golden' £1.7million Morecambe mansion and have a £90,000 designer stash with Chanel handbags in every shade, but much like her most recent Instagram post, it appears that Paris continues to be famous for her down-to-earth attitude and bargain hunting antics. As well as saving cash by ensuring her kids eat out for free, we've also seen the star do her clothes shopping in Primark. Inside Tyson and Paris Fury's love story WITH world champ titles, multiple kids and a beautiful wife by his side, Tyson is much-loved by the nation, but his romance with Paris dates back to their teenage years. Paris met Fury when she was just 15 at a mutual friend's wedding. However, it wasn't until a year later, when their paths crossed again on a night out in Doncaster for her 16th birthday, that they began dating. Paris explained: "He was my first boyfriend as I was not allowed a boyfriend until the age of 16. He is the only boyfriend I have had. 'Tyson would train in boxing during the week and then come and see me at the weekend. I would always be so excited at the thought of seeing him.' In 2008, they tied the knot in front of 400 guests and slept together for the first time on the night of their wedding. In 2016, Fury's mental health issues, cocaine and alcohol abuse, and intolerable mood swings threatened their seemingly unbreakable marriage. On occasion, Paris would even contemplate leaving - packing her bags and getting into her car. However, she'd just stop herself - admitting she couldn't leave Tyson to "crash and burn". Not only this, but she's also proud to have an affordable high street edit with New Look and she's certainly not one to shy away from bargains in B&M. According to Paris, a down-to-earth attitude helps keep her children grounded - and she wants to set a humble example for them. She revealed on the family's Netflix series: 'None of my kids are really the type to say, 'I want this, I want that'. We don't want the kids to grow up spoiled and not knowing the value of something Paris Fury 'Not to sound big-headed, but obviously, if I wanted to go tomorrow and shop out Selfridges' floor, I could do. 'But what am I gonna teach the kids doing that? 'To go and buy five designer handbags, 10 pairs of shoes, diamonds and pearls, what have the kids got to look forward to in life then? Gabby Logan and Kirsty Gallacher show off their youthful looks as they pose during Greek holiday together

They have been friends for more than a quarter of a century, having first got to know each other in their mid 20s. However, as these holiday snaps from their time relaxing in Greece this month show Gabby Logan and Kirsty Gallacher look as youthful as ever. The pair have been friends for 25 years and have been pictured together numerous times - often at glitzy bashes and red carpet events. In one photo, taken at the 2002 Elle Style Awards, Gallacher donned a sleeveless top with black trousers as she posed with Logan in a black top and leather skirt. However, fast forward to a photo from their recent holiday in Greece and it's clear that the pair's healthy lifestyle has paid dividends. The latest snap, which showed the pair posing in the sunshine in similar black dresses, was taken as they enjoyed a break with Logan's husband and children on the Greek island of Kefalonia. One of the snaps from the holiday showed the Logan family, including Gabby and her Scots rugby legend husband Kenny, their jockey daughter Lois, 20, and her twin brother Reuben, 20, who plays rugby for Sale Sharks and the Scotland national team. A video also captured the luxury property the group stayed at, which benefitted from a private pool and a view out over the Ionian Sea. One friend even commented on Logan's seemingly timeless appearance next to the younger women in the group, writing: 'You look [like] the older sister.' The family trip comes after Logan's daughter Lois made her debut as a jockey. The 20-year-old rode at Goodwood in the Markel Magnolia Cup and although she did not place with Spirit of Ecstasy, she said she was itching for more. 'It was over so quickly and such a thrill,' she said. 'The horse was incredible and put up such a fight. We finished in midfield, which was not a bad result. 'I have got more of an edge for winning now and am not so scared of speed. It was really good fun.' Her sports broadcaster and former gymnast mother, who co-hosts Match of the Day, said Lois had put her heart and soul into the training and confessed: 'It's harder to watch than rugby ... It is over so quick and like being a sprinter.' But she said: 'All those 4.40am starts and the months of physical training have been worth it.' The invitation-only Magnolia Cup sees riders from the world of business, sport, fashion and media take part to raise money for charity. Lois, whose twin brother Reuben has followed in their ex-Scotland international father's footsteps to rugby, said they had both been encouraged by their parents to participate in sports - but had worked hard and 'never had anything handed' to them. Lois, a student at Loughborough University, won two classes at the 2021 British Showjumping National Championships and qualified for the Horse of the Year Show. But she told the Telegraph she had never even sat on a race horse before this year - with her mother warning that fitting in training with her studies was going to be a challenge.
