The Food and Drinks You'll Always Find at Stanley Tucci's Holiday Table (Exclusive)
Stanley Tucci loves to taste extravagant and delicious cuisine, but when it comes to the staples on his family's holiday table, he keeps it basic.
'Wine and San Pellegrino,' Tucci, 64, exclusively tells Parade in celebration of his new National Geographic series' Sunday, May 18, premiere. 'We always make marinara sauce or Bolognese or eggplant parmesan. Lots of salads. Stuff like that. Really simple stuff.'
In the upcoming five-episode, food-and-travel show, Tucci takes viewers on an Italian voyage to learn about the country's food, culture and history. Along his journey, he meets with several interesting locals, farmers and restaurateurs who share their own personal stories while feeding Tucci some of their finest dishes.

During filming, Tucci flew back and forth from Italy to New York City so that he didn't go too long without seeing his wife, literary agent Felicity Blunt, and five children. Because of his long travel days, he became a master at packing perfect snacks for the long haul.
'Bring salami sandwiches and lots of like little snacky things, but not like sweet things, more savory things,' Tucci advises. 'Or if we make something, we'll make sandwiches. Maybe eggplant parmesan sandwiches, or something like that that you can bring with you, so you're not eating the sort of crappy food that you can often get in the airports and on an airplane.'

Tucci, who also serves as a producer on the show, was blown away by many things he tasted along the way, but now that he's back in the States, there's one dish he's still dreaming of.
'I really did love that Timballo that they made in Abruzzo,' Tucci says. 'I thought that was amazing.'

"I'm so inspired by you guys. You're badasses doing something no one else would even think of," said Wahlberg on the call. "This could be a movie. The best films I've done are based on true stories — ordinary people doing extraordinary things. No way I'd row an ocean, but I'd play one of you guys in a movie." The brothers are 54 days into their trip, and they are battling the elements, a broken watermaker, and a faulty autohelm. During the video call, Wahlberg remembered spending many days and nights at sea when he filmed The Perfect Storm with George Clooney in 2000."When I was preparing to do The Perfect Storm, I went out on a sword boat — in Ocean City, Maryland, a longliner, and we were actually fishing. We caught some pretty big tuna — 500, 600-pounder. I don't know how you guys are gonna wrestle that thing onto that boat, man. Oh my gosh," said Wahlberg, upon learning that the brothers had a tuna on their fishing line. Wahlberg continued: "What you guys are doing is next level. You're living out a sense of purpose – combining passion with impact. That's rare, and it's humbling to watch. People need to hear about what you're doing. "I couldn't be more inspired by the grit, the determination, the resiliency. What you guys are doing for such an amazing cause, and how hard you're willing to sacrifice yourself and your own well-being for the good of others, is so inspiring. "We'll have a meal waiting for you. My gosh, by that time, we may even be down there to welcome you," said Wahlberg. The Maclean brothers are on a 28-foot carbon fiber boat called the Rose Emily, named in honor of their late sister. They row in two-hour shifts and have been living on freeze-dried meals and desalinated water. They expect the journey to take more than 100 days. "It's been much harder than we expected," said Ewan, who left his job as a Dyson engineer to help design and build the boat. "But today we had dolphins surfing near the boat, and that lifted our spirits — and then we hear we get to speak to Mark Wahlberg, so spirits are absolutely through the roof. We are such big fans, and speaking to him is like a dream come true for us. It's so cool… but it's bloody surreal." Lachlan added: "We're all operating on such little sleep that we thought it all could have been a hallucination." The brothers previously set three world records in rowing the Atlantic in 2020. They rowed for 35 days on a 3000-mile trip from the Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa to Antigua in the Caribbean. They set records for the first three brothers to row any ocean and the fastest and youngest trio to ever row the Atlantic Ocean. This current trip is triple the distance. Trump says he doesn't know what ‘the Congo' is – that may explain why one Congo is on his travel ban and other isn't
Among the 19 countries President Donald Trump has issued a travel ban on is the Republic of the Congo, which, until now, the president has not singled out as a particular issue. Trump has accused 'the Congo' – the informal name for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a much larger country located next to the Republic of the Congo – of releasing prisoners into the United States. 'Many, many people come from the Congo,' Trump said during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni last month. 'I don't know what that is, but they came from the Congo.' The DRC has firmly denied those allegations. Yet, the White House placed the Republic of the Congo, not the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on its restrictive travel ban list – saying Republic of the Congo visa holders overstay by a rate, on average, of 29 percent. One reason the DRC may have been excluded from the travel ban is because the country is trying to work out a mineral deal with the U.S. That deal could be finalized by the end of the month, according to the Financial Times. The Independent has asked the White House for further comment. Reviving the policy from his first administration, Trump announced full restrictions, for both immigrants and nonimmigrants, on Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Partial restrictions are also in place for Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. The Republic of the Congo has not publicly commented on the travel ban as of the publication of this story. But, the African Union Commission, the executive arm of the African Union, encouraged the U.S. to reconsider the full or partial ban on nine of it's countries. The commission said it 'remains concerned about the potential negative impact of such measures on people-to-people ties, educational exchange, commercial engagement, and the broader diplomatic relations that have been carefully nurtured over decades.' 'While recognising the sovereign right of all nations to protect their borders and ensure the security of their citizens, the African Union Commission respectfully appeals to the United States to exercise this right in a manner that is balanced, evidence-based, and reflective of the long-standing partnership between the United States and Africa,' the commission said in a statement. So far, Venezuela has been the first country to verbally challenge Trump's travel ban policy. Diosdado Cabello, the minister of the interior, justice, and peace, hit back at Trump shortly after the partial travel ban was announced, saying people should not travel to the U.S. anyway. 'Being in the United States is a great risk for anyone, not just for Venezuelans,' Cabello said, according to translation. Cabello said those who govern the U.S. are 'fascist' and 'persecute our people… for no reason.' Dahir Hassan Abdi, the Somali ambassador to the U.S., urged the U.S. to engage in a conversation with the Somali government instead. 'Somalia values its longstanding relationship with the United States and stands ready to engage in dialogue to address the concerns raised,' Hassan said in a statement. Since the president began implementing strict immigration policies, other countries have also issued warnings about traveling to the U.S, including Germany, the U.K., Canada, France, Finland, and Denmark.
