Restaurant on Dauphin Island quickly reopens after storm damage
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WKRG) – A popular Dauphin Island restaurant is back in business just days after severe weather pounded the area. The owner of Capt'n Snapper's Marina Bar & Grill says a community effort got him back open sooner than he could have expected.
This is the first restaurant you drive past when you get on the island. For comparison sake–damage from Hurricane Sally kept them closed for a week–with this storm, they were only closed for a day and a half.On the side of the building, you can see where they put up a temporary wall behind the bar.Saturday morning, the storm tore a hole in the side of the building and knocked over an air conditioner.
In the kitchen the storm also knocked the ceiling apart and left a lot of debris. Today the kitchen is cleaned up and the ceiling is secure.
Owner David Simms said at first he cancelled their Mother's day special–but thanks to loyal customers and people from the community, they worked at a breakneck pace to get the restaurant reopened for Sunday's special dinner service.
'It was great. You know, it's a community deal down here on the island. It's a small place. And we were very proud and thankful that they all got here and we worked together to get it done,' said owner David Simms. These repairs are temporary, and Simms says they'll eventually have to close for a short time again to get permanent repairs in places. For now, he's grateful to be back open in time for the tourist season to pick up the pace.

GPOPlus+ Announces the Launch of Call Center Operations to Expand Direct B2B Sales
The new sales channel enhances nationwide reach and scalesrevenue, complementing its direct store delivery (DSD) distribution initialrevenuepotential of 10 seats is estimated to generate $50,000 to $100,000 per seat per month, totalling $500, up to 22 seats, generating $50,000 per month per seat, representing additional revenue of $1,100,000 monthly, or $13,200,000 annually. LAS VEGAS, NV / ACCESS Newswire / June 5, 2025 / GPO Plus, Inc.(OTCQB:GPOX), an AI-powered Distributor revolutionizing distribution to gas stations and convenience stores with its innovative technology-driven Direct Store Delivery (DSD) model, today announced the launch of its new in-house call center operation based in Las Vegas, Nevada. This expansion marks a key milestone in GPOX's growth strategy, significantly broadening its ability to reach new retail customers and increase revenue across additional sales channels. The newly operational call center represents a highly scalable and cost-effective way to drive B2B sales to independent retailers, including smoke shops, vape shops, liquor stores, small grocers, and convenience stores that fall outside the traditional DSD footprint. This initiative works in tandem with the company's field teams, DISTRO+ Wholesale Portal, and regional hubs, forming a comprehensive multi-channel distribution strategy designed to accelerate nationwide growth. The team is starting with a well-curated lead database of over 70,000 retail accounts, focusing on selling GPOX's proven product lines, including its high-margin private-label SKUs. As previously announced, industry benchmarks indicate that $50,000-$100,000 in monthly sales can be achieved per seat. With operations now live, the call center is well-positioned to make meaningful contributions to top-line growth and drive additional market penetration, eliminating the need for physical delivery infrastructure. GPOX has hired an industry veteran and seasoned sales operations leader with extensive experience in call centers to lead the new team. The initial rollout includes up to 10 seats, with the infrastructure and lead volume in place to expand to 22 seats. The projected monthly revenue goal of $50,000 to $100,000 per seat, or $1.1 million to $2.2 million per month (expansion to 22 seats), and the corresponding annualized estimate of $13.2 million to $26.4 million are based on industry averages. "This is a high-impact revenue growth lever for GPOX that has moved quickly from concept to execution," said Brett H. Pojunis, CEO of GPOX. "We expect to have the first 10 seats filled by the end of July, and the expansion up to 22 seats by the end of fiscal Q2 (August to October, 2025). We've streamlined our operations, increased our margins, and now we're aggressively expanding. The call center allows us to rapidly scale into new geographies, deepen our retail penetration, and drive direct B2B sales. Our new manager brings exactly the leadership we need to maximize this opportunity." This initiative complements other recent activations, including the launch of the DISTRO+ Wholesale Portal, the opening of new ambient-temperature-controlled warehouses in Las Vegas and Lubbock, and the deployment of GPOX field teams to expand regional account penetration. Beach and Boating forecast: June 5, 2025
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — As the first week of June officially comes to a close, temperatures remain on the cooler side with wildfire smoke limiting sunshine this weekend. Temperatures remain near average for this time of year with highs in the low to mid-70s this weekend. Unlike last weekend, the winds will be quite calm. Both Friday and Saturday will have a north/northeast wind at 5 to 10 miles per hour. Sunday will be a touch breezy with a south wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour. Some yellow flags may fly then with wave heights at 1 to 3 feet. Due to the limited sunshine and near average temperatures, water temperatures have only warmed a few degrees this week. Most beaches are reporting temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. The average temperature in Lake Michigan for early June typically sits near 50 degrees. While these water temperatures remain near average for this time of the year, any water temperature below 60 degrees can pose a safety threat. If more than a few minutes are spent in the water, cold water shock and hypothermia can set in. The good news? Water temperatures typically warm around 10 degrees throughout the month of June! The peak temperature sits in the low 70s for early to mid August. Lake Michigan Summer Beach Guide Sunday will start off quite pleasant at the lakeshore with sunshine and highs reaching near 70 degrees. By the evening, a cold front is set to sweep through bringing the chance for some showers and thunderstorms. At this time, no severe weather is expected. Lingering showers will continue Monday and Tuesday. Air quality took a dip Thursday morning, with most of West Michigan reporting in the uncomfortable to unhealthy range. Those who are sensitive should limit time outdoors. An air quality alerts remains in effect for Newaygo, Oceana, and Mecosta counties throughout Thursday. While cloud cover will limit the sunset this evening, the wildfire smoke can make the sunset look a bit more vibrant. As the light interacts with the smoke in the lower levels of the atmosphere, the sun tends to look bright red.
