In 1979, he won the British Amateur, which was played at the Hillside Golf Club in Southport.
He won back-to-back US Amateurs in 1982 and 1983 while also claiming victory at the US Mid-Amateur in 1983,
He also won two out of the next three US Mid-Amateurs.
Sigel excelled on the course after turning pro, as he won eight tournaments.

He joined what is now recognised as the PGA Tour Champions with his most notable win in the Senior Tour Championship in 1996.
During his pro career, he won over £6.6million.
He has been hailed as one of the best amateurs of all time by the USGA's president-elect, Kevin Hammer.
He said: "Best amateur since Bobby Jones hands down.
"He was a dear friend and somebody that we will remember forever, and take a lot of inspiration from."

2025 US Walker Cup captain Nathan Smith said: "Incredible player. Incredible friend. Incredible mentor.
"He was special. He was just an icon in amateur golf."
Sigel died from pancreatic cancer on Saturday and the U.S. Golf Association announced it on Sunday.
Fans have flocked to social media to pay tribute to the unique great.
One posted: "Very sad news to hear that Jay Sigel, one of America's finest amateur golfers."
A second commented: "Pennsylvania golf legend. RIP Jay Sigel."
A third wrote: "RIP Jay Sigel. A Pennsylvania golf legend."
A fourth added: "RIP to Jay Sigel, one of the great amateurs in the modern era."
He featured in 11 Masters and made the cut in four of them.

And the craze is making their Chinese owners very rich indeed. Pop Mart reported a near 400 per cent increase in profits during the first half of this year. Now it is one of the most valuable toy makers in the world — worth more than twice as much as rival giants Hasbro and Mattel combined. The firm, founded in 2010 by CEO Wang Ning, has sold more than £496million-worth of products this year alone. Not bad for a furry little monster that's no bigger than a hand. To some, the creatures are adorable, to others, plain ugly. One thing is for sure — the world is in the grip of Labubumania. But how? Inspired by Nordic folklore, Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung designed them in 2015 as part of a collection of characters called The Monsters. It wasn't until Pop Mart bought the rights to them that the seeds for their viral success were sewn. The toy company specialises in 'blind boxes', so-called because customers only find out what they've bought when they open the package. Each 'series' also has a 'secret' final Labubu to complete the collection that is even rarer than the rest. No wonder demand has spiralled. Fake versions, dubbed Lafufus, are big business too, with China seizing 70,000 in just a few days. Although 'blind boxes' from Pop Mart tend to range from £18 to around £60, Labubus get resold online for thousands. Rarer than rest One child-size Labubu fetched a record 1.08million yuan (£110,000) at a Beijing auction in June. Parents are finding their pockets plundered by kids desperate for 'just one more'. But you almost can't blame them when just about every big name is a fan. Having gained popularity in China, Labubus went global after K-pop singer Lalisa Manobal from girlband Blackpink — who also features in TV hit White Lotus — began posting photos of them on her social media. A few weeks later David Beckham revealed his daughter, Harper, 13, had bought him a rare 'secret' edition Labubu. But they're not just bag accessories. Paris Hilton's kids Phoenix, two, and London, 21 months, own several, including some as big as them. In June, Olivia Attwood was treated to a £175 doll by footballer husband Bradley Dack to mark her second wedding anniversary. A month earlier she celebrated turning 34 with a Labubu-themed birthday party. Towie favourite Gemma Collins says she's 'obsessed' with the dolls. And tennis player Carlos Alcaraz was even spotted wth one at Wimbledon in June. Chaos at shop Yesterday, singer Pixie Lott announced on TikTok the world's first gig for Labubu Dolls — set to be held next Thursday at a 'secret West London location'. And what better way for Madonna to have celebrated her 67th birthday last Saturday than with a giant Labubu cake? It's little surprise then that Pop Mart stores in the UK have had queues snaking around the block. But they underestimated just how desperate people were to get their hands on them. In May, bosses were forced to temporarily halt sales in all UK stores after fights broke out between frenzied fans who had been camping outside since 3am. I even witnessed a fight between a worker and a customer.' Pop Mart has since moved to a system that only allows shoppers to buy them in store after winning an online raffle. Two weeks ago in California, burglars raided an LA store and swiped boxes of the dolls. The heartbroken owners fear $30,000 worth of Labubus were taken. And in Iraq, Kurdish authorities confiscated 4,000 dolls and banned their sales in shops — though denied it was due to earlier media reports that they had demonic powers. It might be yet another crazy trend. But for now, it seem Labubu fever is here to stay.

This certainly wasn't the wide-eyed performance or result the club's supporters expected as they dream of Champions League football this season. It wasn't what the club's board anticipated either as they look to bank £40million from reaching the league phase of the competition once again. The journey to Almaty is going to be uncomfortable but they must have been squirming in their director's box seats. You'd pay a penny for the thoughts of chairman Peter Lawwell and chief executive Michael Nicholson as they were berated by the fans when things weren't going to plan. Chants of 'Sack the Board' echoed around the stadium during the second-half and then at time up as the home fans vented their anger at the lack of signings that's been made. There's massive work to do for Celtic in Almaty next week, alright. It may have looked like the draw was kind to Scotland's champions when they landed this tie. But Kairat could arguably have left Glasgow with a better result than the one they headed home with. Celtic fans would never let their club die says Hoops hero Peter Grant Their boss Rafael Urazbakhtin has a group of players who will now believe they can finish the job next Tuesday. No Scottish team has ever won on Kazakh soil because of how tough it is. If Celtic are to progress then they'll need to play a hell of a lot better than this. If Rodgers was attempting to hide his frustration it didn't look like it. At one point in the first-half he berated Reo Hatate for being out of position at a Kairat goal kick. Adam Idah was next to get it for not showing for a pass from James Forrest. Then the winger got a hard time for his failure to take his man on down the flank. When time the half-time whistle went, Rodgers darted up the tunnel towards the home changing room where it can only be assumed some harsh words were said. The message had to be that the players had to raise their game and quickly. Yet crucially that they hadn't been punished like they could have been. 6 Johnston stretchered up after pulling up off the ball Credit: PA Losing right-back Alistair Johnston to a hamstring injury after 33 minutes was a blow. And the way the Canadian international left the pitch suggested he's going to be out for a while. But even when they were at their strongest, Celtic toiled. Kairat had the ball in the back of the Celtic net early on, before the off-side flag went up to rule out the finish from Alexsandr Martynovich. And there were other attacks that came to nothing which had the home support holding its breath. Celtic just didn't have nearly enough threat in the first 45 minutes. Striker Idah once again looked like this level of football was just too much for him. It was no surprise whatsoever when Rodgers hooked him at the break. Hyunjun Yang got stripped for action and was given the role on the left with Daizen Maeda moved up front. There had to be a massive injection of energy, though, because Celtic had been second best in that department. And Yang definitely did his bit. The South Korean has often flattered to deceive in a Celtic jersey but he was lively and eager from the moment he stepped onto the park. Forrest almost scored right at the start of the second-half but the Kairat goalkeeper made a sound save. It was clear by that that Rodgers' side simply weren't going to get the convincing first-leg victory they maybe expected. The Kazakhs defended brilliantly when they had to and got with plenty of yellow and black shirts behind the ball. They became far less likely to take the lead but at the same time looked to break forward when they could. 6 After a rare mistake from Cameron Carter-Vickers, their Brazilian striker Edmilson tried an audacious chip over Kasper Schmeichel from all of 40 yards and the ball only missed the target by inches as it landed on top of the net and thankfully not in it. It was another warning for Rodgers' side, and a reminder that the visitors could still pose a threat. It has to be said that some of their playacting was pathetic. They never missed an opportunity to go down, at the slightest contact. Thankfully the Norwegian referee wasn't fooled by any of it. He was forced to stop play for a few minutes to allow treatment for the Kairat keeper, which seemed like a tactics to slow the game down. But the No1 eventually limped off and was substituted. Rodgers tried other changes to get a goal, Arne Engels replacing Forrest and Shin Yamada taking over from a tired looking Oliver Nygren. Kieran Tierney also trudged off with Auston Trusty taking his place for the final 14 minutes. There was a late, late chance for Maeda to nick the winner deep into stoppage. Liverpool have emerged as Isak's priority for the new campaign and the 25-year-old – the Magpies' top scorer with 27 goals last term – has been training alone after opting out of Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia. An impassioned post from Isak on Tuesday evening accused Newcastle of 'breaking promises' and holding him to ransom with just a fortnight remaining of the transfer window. The Toon responded with an explosive statement of their own, refuting Isak's claims while also stressing that they would be prepared to stand in the way of the Swede's potential exit at St James' Park.
