Modi, Nitish made Bihar India's crime capital, says Rahul
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (June 6, 2025) slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the law and order situation in the State.
On his fifth visit this year to the poll-bound State, Mr. Gandhi told a gathering in Rajgir's Nalanda, the home district of the Chief Minister, that the BJP and Mr. Kumar have turned Bihar from the 'land of knowledge' to the country's 'crime capital'.
'Bihar was once considered the land of truth, justice and non-violence. It showed the path to the entire world. People from across the globe used to come to study at Nalanda University. But today, the situation has changed. People from Bihar are forced to migrate to other States and abroad because there is no employment here. Today, Bihar has become the crime capital of the country,' he said.
Talking about the caste census, Mr. Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said that '90% of the country's population has no real representation'. He said that backward classes, Dalits, Adivasis, and extremely backward communities have no 'meaningful presence' in the corporate sector, judiciary, bureaucracy, or among the owners of private hospitals and other institutions.
The Congress leader said the caste census will reveal 'the reality of the country like an X-ray'. 'The day a proper caste census is done, it will not be just an X-ray but it will prove to be an MRI. I want to show the country the truth about how much injustice is being done to 90% of the population,' Mr. Gandhi said.
He alleged that the Central government would not conduct the caste census 'accurately' because the day it happened, the BJP's politics 'would end'.
Mr. Gandhi said that the 50% ceiling on reservation was 'meaningless' and whenever a Congress government is formed, it will 'break the 50% reservation barrier'.
The Congress leader attacked Mr. Modi over the recent India-Pakistan military conflict, saying that the Prime Minister 'surrendered' after a call from U.S. President Donald Trump.
'Donald Trump has said 11 times – made Narendra Modi surrender — but Narendra Modi is unable to say anything, not even able to say that Trump has lied because this is the truth,' he said.
Responding to Mr. Gandhi's allegations, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary said, 'Modi and Nitish have developed Bihar so much that Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad do not have the courage to talk on this issue.'
'He is raising the issue of crime to create a perception. There is no difference between Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad. One looted the country after coming to power, while the other looted Bihar,' Mr. Choudhary said.
'Nitish Kumar adopted a zero-tolerance policy on crime in Bihar, so no one is spared here. Action is taken immediately and the criminal has to go to jail. No one takes Rahul Gandhi's statement seriously,' he said.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday doubled down on claiming credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, adding that he had used trade to negotiate with the two countries to halt military action, reported news agency ANI. Trump told reporters on Air Force One, 'You know, I did something that people don't talk about, and I don't talk about very much, but we solved a big problem, a nuclear problem potentially with India and with Pakistan. Uttarakhand Congress: Old wounds resurface as Harak Singh Rawat blames Harish Rawat for 2022 election defeat
Harak said he had advised Harish Rawat at the time to avoid internal conflicts and to focus on giving tickets to winnable candidates. 'Even family members are not truly your own, so talking about 'mine and yours' in politics is meaningless. Politics is about results those who win are the conquerors,' he said. Referring to the 2016 incident, Harak added, 'Harish Rawat has not forgiven me for what happened. But I didn't join Congress in 2022 by choice it was the 2016 event that exposed the truth to those blinded by power.' In a sharp rebuttal, Harish Rawat said, 'If I hadn't intervened, Harak Singh wouldn't have rejoined Congress. I respected his request.' He challenged Harak to prove his worth by winning a single seat, saying that might help heal the bitterness from 2016. Harish also pointed out that Harak was 'nowhere to be seen' during the recent Lok Sabha elections. 'Harak Singh needs to understand the pain we felt in 2016. That year, democracy and the spirit of Uttarakhand were betrayed. The BJP came to power because of that event,' he said. He added that his current campaign, the 'Nyay Yatra', is aimed at exposing BJP's lies, corruption, and injustice, which have damaged the state.
