National Police Week Memorial Service held to honor officials
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — In recognition of National Police Week, law enforcement agencies held a memorial service to honor and pay respect to personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The service was held at the Northwest Missouri Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Civic Center Park.
Members from the St. Joseph Police Department, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop H and other Northwest Missouri legal departments were in attendance. Families, friends and civilians came to show their support for those who have fallen.
It's a great time to not only remember the good times and the bad times, but just to reconnect with everyone," Buchannan County Sheriffs Office captain Michael Hess said. "But more importantly, just to remember that these gentlemen lost their lives in the line of duty and to pay tribute to them, to their families.
Lexi Dekraai Ussary, the daughter of St. Joseph police officer Dan Dekraai, who died following a training exercise in 2010, spoke at the service.
The memorial will be again next year to honor law enforcement personnel.

Justin Baldoni's Lawyer Says Blake Lively's Victory Is 'False'
Originally appeared on E! Online Justin Baldoni's lawyer has a lot more to say. One day after the It Ends With Us director's $400 million countersuit against Blake Lively—as well as her husband Ryan Reynolds and publicist Leslie Sloane—was officially dismissed by a judge June 9, his attorney stressed that the legal battle is far from over. 'Ms. Lively and her team's predictable declaration of victory is false,,' Baldoni's lawyer Bryan Freedman said in a statement to E! News June 10. 'So let us be clear about the latest ruling.' Indeed, in legal documents obtained by E! News, judge Lewis J. Liman ruled that Baldoni and his associates had failed to prove defamation in their filing and to prove that 'Lively's threats were wrongful extortion rather than legally permissible hard bargaining or renegotiation of working conditions.' (Baldoni's $250 million lawsuit against was also dismissed.) However, the judge ruled that Baldoni can refile an amended complaint on the allegations of tortious interference with contract, relating to Reynolds and Lively, and breach of implied covenant, relating to Lively by June 23. And, according to Freedman, Baldoni's case against Lively goes far deeper than his dismissed claims of defamation. More from E! Here's the Truth 'This case is about false accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation and a nonexistent smear campaign, which Ms. Lively's own team conveniently describes as 'untraceable' because they cannot prove what never happened,' Freedman continued. 'Most importantly, Ms. Lively's own claims are no truer today than they were yesterday, and with the facts on our side, we march forward with the same confidence that we had when Ms. Lively and her cohorts initiated this battle and look forward to her forthcoming deposition, which I will be taking.' Meanwhile, Lively—who sued Baldoni in January for emotional distress and loss of wages that she says occurred during the filming of It Ends With Us—went on to share gratitude for the support she received following Baldoni's initial filing. 'Like so many others, I've felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us,' Lively wrote in a June 9 statement on her Instagram Story. 'While the suit against me was defeated, so many don't have the resources to fight back.' Following her legal win, Lively said she was 'more resolved than ever' to stand for women's rights to protect themselves, and went on to share resources. She concluded with a note to those who supported her in her own legal endeavor, 'I will never stop appreciating or advocating for you.' Safety concerns close local shooting range to public use
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — The Missouri Department of Conservation announces the indefinite closure of shooting ranges at Pigeon Hill Conservation Area to the public. The rest of Pigeon Hill will remain open to the public, according to a press release on the MDC website. A MDC investigation found 'evidence of range misuse at Pigeon Hill CA that put public safety at risk.' 'Unfortunately, the actions of unsafe, irresponsible shooting range users created a situation that we could not allow to persist,' said Justin McGuire, MDC's Hunter Education and Shooting Range Coordinator, in the press release. The shooting ranges located in St. Joseph are some of the unstaffed ones across Missouri. Conservation area goers are encouraged to report unsafe or unlawful activity to the Operation Game Thief at (800) 392-1111 or contact a local agent. To find agents by county, visit

Taylor Swift Files Restraining Order Against Man, Claims Harassment
Originally appeared on E! Online Taylor Swift is taking legal measures to ensure her safety. The 'Karma' singer recently filed a temporary restraining order against a Colorado resident, Brian Jason Wagner, who she alleges has visited her Los Angeles home multiple times in the last year, stating she is now fearing for the safety of herself and her family in documents obtained by E! News. 'Mr. Wagner made various statements about living at my property (not true),' Swift wrote in a legal declaration obtained by E! News, 'being in a relationship with me (not true), believing I am the mother of his son (not true), and needing to see me in person, all of which are untrue and disconnected from reality.' In her declaration, Swift states that Wagner first visited her Los Angeles residence in 2024, returning to the property several times in July of that year, adding, 'On at least one of the occasions in July 2024, Mr. Wagner was carrying a glass bottle that could have been used as a weapon.' Wagner again visited Swift's Los Angeles residence last month, she alleged, writing in her declaration that he claimed he 'was there checking on a friend (again, this is entirely untrue).' Online Dakota Johnson Reveals Dating Non-Negotiable After Chris Martin Breakup Ryan Lochte and Estranged Wife Kayla Reid's Debt Revealed Amid Divorce Tony Awards 2025: George Clooney Gives Rare Update on His, Amal's Kids Ella and Alexander Swift—who is dating Travis Kelce—went on to detail that her security team had run a background check on Wagner, finding that he had been previously incarcerated and had written letters to Swift while in prison detailing 'at length about his infatuation with me, a romantic relationship with me (which does not exist), and other completely fabricated stories about his involvement in my personal life.' Her team also found that Wagner had allegedly somehow managed to update his driver's license with her own Los Angeles address, sent her staff 'hundreds' of threatening emails, and attempted to divert her own mail to his place of residence. 'I have no relationship with Mr. Wagner and I have never met nor communicated with him,' Swift continued in her declaration, noting that his recent May visits to her home have made the situation more dire, adding 'The fact that both of these recent visits and Mr. Wagner's inappropriate and threatening communications to my staff about me have escalated in recent weeks creates a fear of imminent harm.' Swift was granted a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles, which will bar Wagner from her home, places of work and vehicles. E! News has attempted to reach an attorney for Wagner for comment but has not yet heard back. This is just the latest time legal action has had to be taken against an alleged stalker of Swift. In 2024, a man was arrested outside of The Eras Tour July 17 concert in Germany. The man, who was not identified by name, had purchased a ticket for the show, authorities said, and was arrested upon his entry, with local police telling the Associated Press at the time they were, 'following tips from organizers of the event.' (He was kept detained until Swift left the city.) In recent months, Swift has been photographed spending time in Florida with Kelce as he prepares for the next NFL season, as well as time in New York. However, the 'Fortnight' singer has been open about never staying in the same place for too long. 'I try not to ever really say where I am, since all my addresses are on the internet," she told CBS Mornings in a 2019 interview. 'People tend to show up uninvited like dudes who think we have an imaginary marriage.' She emphasized the longstanding fear in her life, adding, 'I've had a lot of stalkers show up to the house armed.' For the latest breaking news updates, click here to download the E! News App
