The Baltimore Ravens' All-Pro running back received a special surprise from his favorite actor. The bet is on.
The Baltimore Ravens' All-Pro running back received a special surprise from his favorite actor. The bet is on. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Derrick Henry now has all the motivation he needs for the 2025 season. Advertisement Earlier this week, the Baltimore Ravens running back appeared on the Dan Patrick Show where he finished the interview saying he was a huge fan of actor Adam Sandler, who is a friend of Patrick's. The Hall of Fame radio voice offered Henry a bet - if he could surpass 2,000 rushing yards this season, he'll shoot Sandler a message and try to get Henry a role in his next movie. Patrick has followed up with his side of the agreement. And now so has Sandler. A video posted by his show's social media account shows Patrick make the initial call to "Sand-Man", receive a video response as requested, and Henry's reaction when he saw it for the first time on the practice field. "I love ya, congrats on everything baby," Sandler said. "2,000 yards plus this year gets you not only in the movie, but we have a nice dinner together ..." Advertisement Henry said with an ear-to-ear smile: "That's my dog!" He then thanked Patrick for - potentially - helping fulfill a dream of working with his favorite actor. The Ravens star was just 79 yards short of eclipsing the momentous 2,000 mark last season - something he has already done once in his career (2,027 yards in 2020 with the Tennessee Titans). Including Henry, only nine players have ever rushed for 2,000 yards in a season. But nobody has ever done it twice. "Say no more. Remember that now. The bet is on. No pressure at all," Henry said after Patrick's first mention of the proposal. Now it's official. Advertisement Lights, camera, action. Adam Sandler promises Derrick Henry movie role if he breaks 2,000 yards
Adam Sandler promises Derrick Henry movie role if he breaks 2,000 yards Show Caption Hide Caption Barry Sanders on the importance of running backs in today's NFL Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders believes we are seeing a resurgence in the RB position in today's league. Sports Seriously Coming off of his most productive rushing season since 2020, Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry just got an extra incentive to be even better in 2025. Actor and comedian Adam Sandler promised Henry a movie role and a nice dinner together if the five-time Pro Bowler can rush for over 2,000 yards next season. Sandler sent the promise in the form of a video to the Dan Patrick Show one day after Henry told Patrick that the "Happy Gilmore" star was his favorite actor. "If you ever see [Sandler] again, tell him I'm a really big fan, and I'd really love to meet him one day," Henry told Patrick on Thursday. BALTIMORE RAVENS: Why Chuck Pagano came out of retirement to return to Baltimore Patrick responded with the terms of the bet right after – a 2,000-yard season for a movie role in one of Sandler's next projects – but it wasn't until Friday that the actor backed him up and confirmed the deal. "Two-thousand yards plus this year gets you not only in the movie, but we have a nice dinner together," Sandler said in the video. Henry messaged Patrick after seeing Sandler's video to express his gratitude: "That was really cool!" He also made sure to thank the actor for the additional push ahead of the season. Henry has rushed for 2,000 yards once before, in the aforementioned 2020 season with the Tennessee Titans that earned him an Offensive Player of the Year award. In 16 games that season, Henry tallied 2,027 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 378 carries, all of which led the league. His 5.4 average yards per carry ranked third of all running backs with at least 150 attempts. Last year, Henry's first with Baltimore, the nine-year NFL veteran put up 1,921 yards on 325 carries (5.9 yards per carry, which led all running backs) and a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns. If Henry dominates opposing defenses again in 2025, those defenders can put the blame on Sandler for giving the running back just one more reason to excel.

Derrick Henry's spot in future Adam Sandler film hinges on cracking this NFL milestone
Coming to the big screen near you: Adam Sandler and Derrick Henry (maybe). This week, Baltimore's star running back revealed to Dan Patrick, a good friend of Sandler's, that Sandler is his favorite actor and that he'd love to meet him one day. Patrick then upped the ante as he told Henry, who compiled 1,921 rushing yards last season in his first year with the Ravens, that if he could surpass 2,000 yards next season, he'd make sure to get him a spot in a Sandler movie. Advertisement 3 Adam Sandler spoke to Derrick Henry in a video to agree to the deal that would land Henry a role in a Sandler movie. The Dan Patrick Show The iconic actor and comedian agreed wholeheartedly. 'Yo Derrick, I just woke up, you know that. That's why I look disgusting — on top of the fact that I am disgusting,' Sandler joked at the start of a video message for Henry. 'I love ya, congrats on everything, 2,000 yards-plus gets you not only in the movie, but we have a nice dinner together and we talk about Dan Patrick's facial hair and how hard it is to grow it.' Advertisement Henry watched the video, grinning ear to ear. 'That's my dog, man,' Henry said as Sandler's message concluded. 'Hell yeah, man, that's cool as hell.' Henry then sent a heartfelt message to Patrick to thank him for getting him in contact with his favorite actor. Advertisement 'Dan thank you for sending the message for the video, that was really cool!' the Ravens running back wrote. 'Much love!' 3 Dan Patrick helped Derrick Henry get in contact with Adam Sandler. The Dan Patrick Show So, the stakes have been raised. Henry has reached 2,000 yards in a season just once across his nine-year NFL career — hitting the mark in year No. 5 of his eight seasons spent with the Tennessee Titans. Advertisement In his inaugural season with the Ravens in 2024-25, he just barely missed the mark. 3 Derrick Henry came up just short of 2,000 yards last season. AP But by coming up just 79 yards short, the 31-year-old — who was awarded a $30 million extension with the Ravens last month — certainly showed that he's got some left in the tank as he looks to jumpstart his movie career on the one condition that Patrick and Sandler laid out for him. The five-time Pro Bowler and 2020 AP Offensive Player of the Year has appeared in plenty of advertisements and commercials across his NFL years, so he's got some acting chops already.
