Birla Tyre unveils new brand identity under Himadri-led consortium
Birla Tyre on Wednesday unveiled its new brand identity, including a redesigned logo and corporate website, marking a fresh strategic direction under its new promoters a consortium led by Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd and Dalmia Bharat Refractories. The rebranding comes as the Kolkata-based tyre maker, once part of the BK Birla Group , aims to reposition itself as a high-performance, future-ready brand for the Indian and global markets, after being acquired through the corporate insolvency process. The new logo features a custom wordmark symbolising speed and forward momentum, along with a tiger symbol, representing power and agility, the company said in a statement. The rebranding follows the final acquisition of Birla Tyre, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd ( HSCL ) effective April 7. It was established in 1991 as part of Kesoram Industries and was demerged for turnaround, which did not succeed. HSCL, a leading manufacturer of carbon materials and chemicals, had partnered with Dalmia Bharat Refractories to acquire Birla Tyre in October 2023. The ₹347 crore resolution plan involved a total debt of ₹1,000 crore and a liquidation value of ₹335 crore. The company now plans to roll out integrated marketing campaigns to connect with both new-age and legacy customers, the statement said.

IIT Delhi tops India in QS World Rankings, record 54 varsities make cut
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi was adjudged as the highest ranked Indian institution in the QS World University Rankings for 2026 by climbing up to the 123rd spot, with a record 54 universities and institutions from the country making it to the coveted list. It was followed by IIT Bombay ranked 129th, a drop from its all-time best ranking of 118th in 2025, and IIT Madras at rank 180. Of the 54 Indian institutions listed this year, 30 are public universities while the remaining 24 are privately funded. This list also includes 12 IITs, along with one National Institute of Technology (NIT) and one Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). Over 1,500 universities were included in this year's ranking list, which is annually compiled by London-based higher education analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds. The list ranks universities on parameters ranging from research and discovery, learning experience, employability, global engagement, and sustainability. The number of Indian institutions in the global rankings has risen from 45 in 2025 to 54 this year, making the country the biggest gainer in terms of the number of institutions added to the list in a single year at nine. With 54 Indian institutions in the global university ranking list this year, India is now the fourth most represented country in the ranking behind the United States (US) with 192 institutions, the United Kingdom (UK) with 90 institutions, and Mainland China with 72 institutions. QS officials noted that in just a decade, India's ranked universities have grown from 11 to 54, which is the strongest performance across the G20. Commenting on India's performance, Jessica Turner, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of QS, said that the country is rewriting the global higher education map. 'In the world's most populous nation, with more than 40 per cent of its people under 25, the drive to expand both access and quality is not just an education agenda, it is a national imperative,' she added. Turner also underlined that delivering on India's 50 per cent Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) target by 2035 will require growth on an extraordinary scale, which would be equivalent to building 14 new universities every week, according to QS estimates.

Shashi Tharoor admits differences with Congress leadership: ‘You know what I am talking about'
Shashi Tharoor of the Congress on Thursday acknowledged having differences with certain members of the party leadership but said he would refrain from discussing them publicly due to the bypoll in Nilambur constituency. Speaking to reporters, Shashi Tharoor emphasised his deep commitment to the Congress, its principles, and its workers. He added that he has worked alongside party workers for 16 years and regards them as close friends and brothers, news agency PTI reported. "However, I do have differences of opinion with some in the Congress leadership. You know what I am talking about, as some of those issues are there in the public domain and have been reported by you (media)," PTI quoted Tharoor as saying. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) member did not clarify whether his differences of opinion were with the national or state leadership. The Thiruvananthapuram MP indicated that he might talk about those differences after the bypoll results. When asked why he was not part of the bypoll campaign, Tharoor said he was not invited for it as was the practice during the other byelections, including the one in Wayanad held last year. "I do not go where I am not invited," the senior Congress leader said, but added that he wants the party workers' campaign efforts to bear fruit and the UDF candidate to win from Nilambur. Regarding his recent talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tharoor said it was regarding the delegations' visits to various countries in connection with Operation Sindoor and the discussions held there. "No domestic politics were discussed," he said. Defending his decision to accept the Centre's invite to head one of the delegations, he said that when he became the chairman of the External Affairs Committee of the Parliament, he had made it clear that he was focused on India's foreign policy and its national interest and not the foreign policy of the Congress and BJP. "I have not changed my line. When an issue concerning the nation comes up, we are all obligated to work and speak for the country. What I said during Operation Sindoor was my own opinion. "The Centre asked for my services. Indeed, my party did not. So, I proudly did my duty as an Indian citizen," he said.
