Georgia DNR announces new ‘slow no wake zone' at Lake Lanier
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources announced the introduction of a new no wake zone at Lake Lanier.
According to the DNR's Law Enforcement Division, the new 'slow no wake zone' is in effect near Clark's Bridge on Lake Sidney Lanier, in Hall County.
The new slow no wake zone is a safety effort for boaters and shoreline visitors.
DNR said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had put in new signage and buoys, with the slow no wake zone effective immediately.
Now, boaters are encouraged to be alert and follow posted signage, with DNR reminding them that all state and federal laws and regulations for operating a vessel, shoreline safety and dock use will still be enforced.

6 West Michigan communities awarded DNR grants for tree projects
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced 15 grants totaling more than $1 million to help communities across the state develop their tree canopies. Michigan DNR halts program to euthanize Canada geese 'Trees are vital community infrastructure, and this grant program supports projects that bring the important benefits trees provide to more Michigan communities,' Kerry Gray, a grant specialist with the DNR's Urban and Community Forestry Program, . In all, the grants are expected to plant more than 1,700 new trees, offer 33 training workshops and develop plans to manage more than 32,000 public trees. The grants range between approximately $23,000 and $144,000. Of those grants, six of them are in West Michigan. DNR focuses on long-term health of forests damaged by ice storm Crystal Township in Montcalm County is getting one of the largest: $133,112 to complete a public tree inventory and management plan for future tree planting and maintenance. The township also has plans to develop a community orchard. The village of Lakeview will receive $95,172 to help cover tree planting along streets and in parks. The city of Battle Creek will receive $38,850 for tree planting and maintenance. The will get $36,993 to develop a 'series of tree-planting and care workshops for municipal employees, residents and landscape contractors within the Lower Grand River Watershed.' Residents back home after nitric oxide leak at SE Ohio manufacturing plant
Residents are back home after multiple agencies responded to a chemical leak at an Ohio manufacturing plant on Wednesday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The Vinton County Sheriff's Office said the county Emergency Management Agency (EMA) was notified around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning of a 'confirmed leak' at the Austin Power Red Diamond Plant, according to a social media post. As previously reported by News Center 7, residents in the village of Zaleski were asked to evacuate the area. 'Air monitoring and on-site evaluations confirm that levels at the facility are within safe limits,' the sheriff's office said. According to the company's website, Austin Powder is headquartered in Cleveland, and the manufacturing facility in Vinton County is known as Red Diamond. The company produces industrial explosives used for mining and construction purposes. The Ohio EPA told our news partner, WBNS-TV in Columbus, that no injuries were reported from the chemical leak.
