Railway line between Aberdeen and Dundee closed
The rail line between Aberdeen and Dundee has been closed after a person was hit by a train.Emergency services are attending the scene near the Balnagask area of Torry on the outskirts of Aberdeen. All rail services between the two cities are suspended. ScotRail has said a ticket acceptance scheme is in place on bus services between Aberdeen and Dundee.

It would be brilliant news if Hollywood titan Christopher Nolan does film part of his new blockbuster take on The Odyssey on the Moray coast. Okay, so it's a bit of stretch to think Buckie and Cullen can stand in for the wine-dark seas and sun-kissed isles so oft mentioned in Homer's epic tale, but that's the magic of the movies for you. And given the excitement building around even the thought of A-listers like Matt Damon and Zendaya it would be brilliant if the stars really did come to Findlater Castle and surrounds. But there is more than just celeb spotting and fans with stars in their eyes at stake here. After all, our part of the world is no stranger to big name movies being filmed on our doorstep, from Mel Gibson's Hamlet at Dunnottar Castle through to Aberdeen standing in for Soviet Moscow in Jon S Baird's Tetris. And we also have the rich strand of TV filming from The Traitors to Granite Harbour. Yet every time the film crews arrive amid the hullabaloo of lights, camera and action, they just as quickly pack up and move on with the production – including studio filming – happening far from here. But just imagine if there was actually a purpose-built film studio right here in the north-east. We're already attracting top flight names with our stunning scenery, so why not encourage them to stay with world class production facilities? This isn't some fanciful notion. Aberdeen is rich with artistic talent already, with a bedrock of acting, writing and directing skill being honed here then moving on to where the opportunities to practices their craft can be found. But if there were a homegrown film studio, that talent could be harnessed for their good and for the whole of the north-east's. After all, Ireland has made a major industry out of the film industry and spin-off tourism. You can still go on Game of Thrones tours on the Emerald Isle. So why not here? It was just a matter of months ago that Crow House Projects in Aberdeen set out the bold statement of wanting to see a film industry on their doorstep – a vision backed by US director Matt Hielsberg – for the talent they are fostering. Throw into the mix the undeniable fact the north-east is in transition, looking for what will come after oil and gas. Why not a money-spinning, tourist-attracting film industry? Wouldn't it be nice if our political leaders at every level, from councils to Holyrood to Westminster, decided to at least explore the idea of creating the Holywood of the north right here? Working hand in hand with our creative community this is an opportunity that could pay huge dividends over the long run. So if Nolan does indeed start filming in Moray, let's use that as a launching point for our own Odyssey to make a north-east film industry a reality. M&S website resumes online orders six weeks after cyber-attack
Marks & Spencer has reopened its website to shoppers, six weeks after it was forced to halt online orders after a cyber-attack. The retailer said on its website that customers 'can now place online orders with standard delivery to England, Scotland and Wales'. Deliveries to Northern Ireland 'will resume in the coming weeks'. 'We will resume click and collect, next-day delivery, nominated-day delivery and international ordering in the coming weeks,' it said. The retailer is estimated to have been losing about £25m in online clothing and homewares sales a week after it was forced to stop taking orders on its website within days of 'threat actors', thought to be a hacking collective known as Scattered Spider, gaining access to its systems over the Easter weekend. The company expects the hack to cost it up to £300m in profits this year, although about half of that is expected to be offset by insurance and other measures. It has previously said disruption to its website could last until July, and some online services are not expected to restart immediately. Shoppers have been able to browse online, as well as shop in M&S's physical stores using cash or cards for most of the period since the hack. However, stocks of food and clothing in stores have also been affected, meaning that M&S has lost out during a busy period for retailers as a warm, sunny spring has driven an unexpected rise in household spending. M&S has also admitted that some personal information relating to thousands of customers – including names, addresses, dates of birth and order histories – was taken in the cyber-attack. Family of 'cheese wire' murder victim say killer may have confessed behind bars
Heartbroken relatives have called for former prisoners to come forward to help solve long running Scots cold case. The family of a taxi driver murdered with cheese wire have said it is possible the killer confessed behind bars as they appeal for former prisoners to come forward. Aberdeen cabbie George Murdoch was found strangled to death outside his vehicle in September 1983, but the murderer has remained untraced for more than four decades. George's nephew Alec McKay and his wife Robina, who are leading the campaign for justice, said that due to a Daily Record story on a criminal source profiling the possible killer, they have now received a number of tips from former prisoners - and have called for more to share their suspicions. We told in February how a source, who has served various stints in Scots jails, said the murderer was likely a 'sadistic, sick killer' who took life for the pleasure of it. Robina told the Record: "Do we think it possible the killer confessed to other prisoners if he ever did serve time? Given human nature, I'd say that has to be a possibility. "I'd imagine an act like killing an innocent individual would be a huge secret for most people, even killers, to keep to themselves. "We wish to appeal to those who may have served time in prison, especially back in the 1980s and 90s. A number of former prisoners have contacted us after the profile and it only takes one person to come forward with the right information. "As time goes by, it becomes ever more important for us to achieve justice for George, who died such a brutal and torturous death and for the terrible toll it took on his wife, Jessie." The long-standing cold case has seen dramatic developments in recent years as police continue to hunt the sadistic killer of 'gentle George'. Then aged 58, Dod was found dead beside his cab on Pitfodels Station Road, Aberdeen, having just picked up a fare on September 29, 1983. The cheese wire believed to have been used to garrotte him was found nearby. Police have found possible DNA matches as they hope to establish any family link to a profile from the scene- with the family urging anyone to come forward to rule out possibly deceased family members. Huge rewards of £50,000 are available for information that will lead to a conviction and £10,000 for any matching family DNA. Robina added: "His killer disappeared into the night and over 40 years later, his remaining family are still searching for answers. "The police now have a DNA profile of the killer, so when anyone provides a name, it will be possible to 100% identify him. "Will you help by coming forward with the name of anyone you believe committed this evil crime? We understand you may be reticent to do so, for fear your own identity gets out. "However, we guarantee none of your details will be shared with anyone, including the police, if that is your wish. "The right name is out there; maybe you will be the one to help solve this murder? If the name you give us is 100% confirmed by the police to be George's killer, even if that person is now deceased, you will receive the £50,000 reward. He said: "This was a planned and deliberate act of pure evil and he was confident enough to go through with it. This man is on the police computer somewhere and not for anything minor either." Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, previously told the Daily Record: 'George Murdoch's family have dealt with his loss with a great deal of dignity over the years since his senseless murder.
