PM Modi meets Pahalgam terror attack victim's family members in Kanpur, consoles them
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met the family of Shubham Dwivedi, the Kanpur-based businessman who was among the 26 people killed in the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was held at the Air Force Station, Chakeri, as the prime minister offered condolences and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
Shubham Dwivedi's parents, Sanjay and Seema, along with Shubham's wife Aishanya, were present during the meeting. Shubham and Aishanya were married on February 12 this year.
Modi spent time with the family, acknowledged their pain and said the nation would forever honour the courage and sacrifice of Shubham. He reassured them of the government's support and shared their sorrow, stating that such acts of terrorism would not weaken the country's resolve.
Following the interaction, Aishanya said, 'It felt as though someone had placed a hand over my head.'
'The prime minister spoke with great empathy and told me that the country is proud of Shubham. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.'
She also said Modi reiterated the government's commitment to ongoing anti-terror operations and made clear that the fight against terrorism would continue with full force.
Aishanya told the prime minister that the attack appeared intended to disrupt the improving situation in the valley.
'Things were getting better in Kashmir, and perhaps the attackers came to undo that progress,' she said.
'They asked our religion before they shot. They wanted to divide us, to create hatred between Hindus and Muslims.'
She added that Modi listened intently and responded with understanding.
'The pain was visible on his face,' she said. 'He also consoled my father-in-law, placing a hand on his shoulder.'
Speaking after the meeting, Sanjay Dwivedi expressed gratitude for what he called the government's strong and timely response to the attack.
'We are grateful that the Prime minister took the time to meet us and expressed such deep sorrow,' he said. 'He promised that this fight against terrorism will continue until it is rooted out.'
The meeting concluded with Modi assuring the family that he would meet them again soon.
'He said there was little time today, but he will come again. That gave us strength,' said Dwivedi.

The home minister alleged that senior TMC leaders were complicit in the violence in Murshidabad in April, which broke out during protests over the contentious Waqf Amendment Act. 'The way a TMC minister incited the violence, it can be said that the Murshidabad riots were state-sponsored,' he claimed. 'The MHA kept on insisting about the deployment of BSF during the Murshidabad riots, but the TMC government didn't allow it to happen so that the violence could continue. If BSF personnel had been deployed, Hindus would have been protected. It was only after BJP workers approached the high court that the BSF was finally sent in,' he alleged. At least three people died and several others were injured in the April riots. This was Shah's first visit to West Bengal since the Murshidabad clashes. Sharpening his attack on Banerjee for the state of affairs under her rule, Shah said, 'Today, Mamata didi has turned this great land of Bengal land into a hub of infiltration, corruption, atrocities on women, crime, bomb blasts and mistreatment of Hindus.' Operation Sindoor was carried out to punish these terrorists. The headquarters of the terrorists were destroyed by entering Pakistan. However, Mamata didi was pained over the death of these terrorists. She opposed Operation Sindoor by issuing a cheap political statement,' Shah said. He said that under Operation Sindoor, the central government conducted a deep strike 100 km into Pakistan, targeting terrorist headquarters. 'Our forces have destroyed the terror headquarters 100 kilometres inside Pakistan. Over 100 terrorists were killed in the strike. Notably, the Chief Minister described the name of Operation Sindoor as politically motivated last week. Her comments came just minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a political rally from Alipurduar, where he launched a scathing attack against the West Bengal government and the ruling Trinamool Congress on issues like corruption, women's safety, and atrocities on Hindus, among others. Shah also said that the Chief Minister might support the terrorists sent to India by Pakistan as much as she wants, but she should understand that Operation Sindoor has not ended. 'Anyone who will try to do any mischief will be given a fitting reply,' the Union Home Minister said. Speaking on the occasion, he also criticised the Chief Minister for not allotting land to the Border Security Force (BSF) to raise barbed fences at the international borders in the state. 'The Chief Minister wants the illegal infiltration to continue so that her government can continue. She wants illegal infiltration to continue so that later her nephew becomes the next Chief Minister of West Bengal,' Shah said. The Home Minister also said that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, the killers of BJP workers in the state will be brought out from underground and punished. 'There is corruption in every sphere of administration in West Bengal. While Trinamool Congress leaders benefited from that corruption, the common people continued to suffer. The Hindus in Murshidabad could have been protected if central armed police forces had been deployed before. Now it is proved that the elected representatives and leaders of Trinamool Congress were involved in those riots,' Shah said.
