PM Modi meets Pahalgam terror attack victim's family members in Kanpur, consoles them

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met the family of Shubham Dwivedi, the Kanpur-based businessman who was among the 26 people killed in the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was held at the Air Force Station, Chakeri, as the prime minister offered condolences and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
Shubham Dwivedi's parents, Sanjay and Seema, along with Shubham's wife Aishanya, were present during the meeting. Shubham and Aishanya were married on February 12 this year.
Modi spent time with the family, acknowledged their pain and said the nation would forever honour the courage and sacrifice of Shubham. He reassured them of the government's support and shared their sorrow, stating that such acts of terrorism would not weaken the country's resolve.
Following the interaction, Aishanya said, 'It felt as though someone had placed a hand over my head.'
'The prime minister spoke with great empathy and told me that the country is proud of Shubham. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.'
She also said Modi reiterated the government's commitment to ongoing anti-terror operations and made clear that the fight against terrorism would continue with full force.
Aishanya told the prime minister that the attack appeared intended to disrupt the improving situation in the valley.
'Things were getting better in Kashmir, and perhaps the attackers came to undo that progress,' she said.
'They asked our religion before they shot. They wanted to divide us, to create hatred between Hindus and Muslims.'
She added that Modi listened intently and responded with understanding.
'The pain was visible on his face,' she said. 'He also consoled my father-in-law, placing a hand on his shoulder.'
Speaking after the meeting, Sanjay Dwivedi expressed gratitude for what he called the government's strong and timely response to the attack.
'We are grateful that the Prime minister took the time to meet us and expressed such deep sorrow,' he said. 'He promised that this fight against terrorism will continue until it is rooted out.'
The meeting concluded with Modi assuring the family that he would meet them again soon.
'He said there was little time today, but he will come again. That gave us strength,' said Dwivedi.

Mamata Banerjee opened borders to Bangladeshis, can't stop infiltration: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of facilitating infiltration from Bangladesh and prioritising her vote bank over national the Vijay Sankalp Karyakarta Sammelan during his two-day visit to the state, Shah said, "Mamata Banerjee has opened the nation's borders for Bangladeshis. She is allowing infiltration. Mamata Banerjee cannot stop infiltration; only a Lotus government can do that. We have asked her for land to create the fence. She is not providing land at the borders, so that infiltration continues, and her vote bank keeps increasing, and her nephew becomes the Chief Minister after her. But this is not going to happen."advertisementSounding the poll bugle in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, Shah said the elections in the state will not only determine the future of Bengal but also have implications for national security. He further criticised Mamata Banerjee for opposing the Centre's Operation Sindoor, under which nine terror camps and subsequently military bases were targeted in Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam carnage."Mamata Banerjee may favour the Pakistani terrorists as much as she wants, but I want to tell her that this is PM Modi's government and Operation Sindoor is not yet over. Anyone who dares anything will be given a proper answer," Shah to the recent violence in Murshidabad, Shah accused the state government of failing to protect the Hindu community. "Our Home Ministry repeatedly asked to call the BSF, but they did not. Then our workers approached the High Court, and following the court's order, the BSF arrived and worked to protect the Hindus. Mamata Banerjee's minister abused the BSF, and the party's leaders were standing there and encouraging the rioters. The ministers of the Bengal government were involved in these riots. This was a state-sponsored riot which caused injustice to the Hindus," he Murshidabad violence refers to a series of violent incidents that broke out in April in the Murshidabad district following protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The unrest led to multiple deaths, injuries, and widespread damage to public and private also questioned Mamata Banerjee's stance on the Waqf Act. "Is something wrong with the Waqf Act? Should the land of Bengal be sacrificed because of Waqf? Who is Mamata Banerjee favouring by opposing the Waqf Act? Mamata Banerjee may oppose the Waqf till 2026 because after that she will not be the CM any more," he Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, was passed by both Houses of Parliament following extended heated debates. It received presidential assent from President Droupadi Murmu on April 5 and was officially notified, coming into effect on April of Shah's visit, the BJP's West Bengal unit president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, "After the PM's visit, the CM was rattled. She is demanding an early election. I think she is tired, and she feels that if the early elections are held, she will be relieved from the post sooner. People of Bengal must understand that if the BJP government doesn't come to power, incidents like Murshidabad will continue to happen. Mamata Banerjee has demeaned the women of West Bengal, and they will respond to her in the coming election."advertisementMajumdar added that Shah's meetings with mandal presidents and senior leaders would galvanise the party's grassroots efforts and mark the beginning of the party's mission for the 2026 elections, which he described as "Operation Bengal" to "uphold the honour of Bengal's women."The Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, accused the BJP of using Operation Sindoor for political gain. TMC minister Sashi Panja dismissed BJP leaders as "seasonal visitors" who lack genuine commitment to the people of Bengal. She said the BJP's insensitivity towards women's issues would prevent them from gaining support in the Watch

‘Mamata stooped low to appease vote bank by opposing Operation Sindoor': Amit Shah

The home minister alleged that senior TMC leaders were complicit in the violence in Murshidabad in April, which broke out during protests over the contentious Waqf Amendment Act. 'The way a TMC minister incited the violence, it can be said that the Murshidabad riots were state-sponsored,' he claimed. 'The MHA kept on insisting about the deployment of BSF during the Murshidabad riots, but the TMC government didn't allow it to happen so that the violence could continue. If BSF personnel had been deployed, Hindus would have been protected. It was only after BJP workers approached the high court that the BSF was finally sent in,' he alleged. At least three people died and several others were injured in the April riots. This was Shah's first visit to West Bengal since the Murshidabad clashes. Sharpening his attack on Banerjee for the state of affairs under her rule, Shah said, 'Today, Mamata didi has turned this great land of Bengal land into a hub of infiltration, corruption, atrocities on women, crime, bomb blasts and mistreatment of Hindus.' Hitting out at the state government for obstructing national security efforts, he said, 'Mamata Banerjee is opposing the Waqf Amendment Act for appeasement politics.' The home minister also accused the ruling TMC of facilitating illegal cross-border movement. 'The Bengal elections will not only decide the future of the state, but it is also linked to the security of the country. Mamata Banerjee has left Bengal's borders open for Bangladeshis. Infiltration is taking place with her blessings. Only the BJP government can stop this,' he said. Responding to the TMC's criticism of the BSF's inability to stop infiltration, the senior BJP leader said the Mamata Banerjee-led government has not given the required land to the BSF. 'Once the TMC government gives BSF the required land, we will stop infiltration. But, it would never give land to the BSF, as the party wants infiltration to continue so that it can remain in power,' he claimed. Shah also accused Banerjee of failing to take a firm stand on issues of national security. 'During previous regimes in which Mamata didi was also a minister, no steps were taken to deal firmly with terror attacks. But our PM Narendra Modi took firm measures against terror attacks by destroying terror camps across the border. But, Mamata didi has a problem with it,' he said. 'For the sake of her vote bank, Mamata didi has crossed all limits of stooping low. A few days ago, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed our innocent citizens in front of their families after asking them about their religion. Operation Sindoor was carried out to punish these terrorists. The headquarters of the terrorists were destroyed by entering Pakistan. However, Mamata didi was pained over the death of these terrorists. She opposed Operation Sindoor by issuing a cheap political statement,' Shah said. He said that under Operation Sindoor, the central government conducted a deep strike 100 km into Pakistan, targeting terrorist headquarters. 'Numerous terrorists were killed, but this seems to trouble Mamata ji. By doing so, you are not only opposed to the mission, but also disregard the sentiments and emotions of the women of our country,' Shah said.

Mamata Banerjee was pained by success of Operation Sindoor: Amit Shah

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was pained by the success of Operation Sindoor, the strike, through which Indian Armed Forces destroyed several terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday. 'Our forces have destroyed the terror headquarters 100 kilometres inside Pakistan. Over 100 terrorists were killed in the strike. But Mamata Banerjee had a stomach ache because of the successful strike. I hope that she felt the pain when people from West Bengal were killed in the terror attack at Pahalgam in April. But when our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, came to West Bengal after the successful Operation Sindoor, she made an undesirable political comment opposing Operation Sindoor. The Chief Minister had played with the sentiments of mothers and sisters in the country," the Union Home Minister said while addressing a political rally at Netaji Indoor Stadium in central Kolkata on Sunday. Notably, the Chief Minister described the name of Operation Sindoor as politically motivated last week. Her comments came just minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a political rally from Alipurduar, where he launched a scathing attack against the West Bengal government and the ruling Trinamool Congress on issues like corruption, women's safety, and atrocities on Hindus, among others. Shah also said that the Chief Minister might support the terrorists sent to India by Pakistan as much as she wants, but she should understand that Operation Sindoor has not ended. 'Anyone who will try to do any mischief will be given a fitting reply,' the Union Home Minister said. Speaking on the occasion, he also criticised the Chief Minister for not allotting land to the Border Security Force (BSF) to raise barbed fences at the international borders in the state. 'The Chief Minister wants the illegal infiltration to continue so that her government can continue. She wants illegal infiltration to continue so that later her nephew becomes the next Chief Minister of West Bengal,' Shah said. The Home Minister also said that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, the killers of BJP workers in the state will be brought out from underground and punished. 'There is corruption in every sphere of administration in West Bengal. While Trinamool Congress leaders benefited from that corruption, the common people continued to suffer. The Hindus in Murshidabad could have been protected if central armed police forces had been deployed before. Now it is proved that the elected representatives and leaders of Trinamool Congress were involved in those riots,' Shah said.
