Kelantan cop charged with bribery over RM13,500 in home renovations, m-cycle deposit
KOTA BARU: A senior police officer was today charged at the Sessions Court here on two charges of receiving RM13,500 in bribes in the form of home renovations and a deposit for the purchase of a high-powered motorcycle.
Assistant Superintendent Mohd Firdaus Mohamad, 40, pleaded not guilty before Judge Dazuki Ali.
The accused who is now in the Internal Security and Public Order Department for the Kelantan police headquarters, allegedly committed the offences while he was Criminal Investigation Department chief at the Machang police station in 2018.
According to the first charge, he allegedly received home renovations worth RM9,000 from a 38-year-old contractor in Kampung Pak Elong Telong, Bachok, between January and June 2018.
On the second charge, Firdaus allegedly received from the same person RM4,500 as a down payment for a Kawasaki Versys high-powered motorcycle in January 2018.
Both charges were under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Tengku Nurul Haziqah Tuan Yacob from the Kelantan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), while the accused was represented by Azura Ghazali.
The court allowed the accused to be released on RM8,000 bail with one surety.
Court also ordered the accused to report to the MACC office between the 1st and 5th of every month, surrender his passport to the court and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.

In March this year, the High Court in Ipoh, Perak dismissed Yong's application to submit additional evidence in his appeal.
