Karate gold medallist earns provincial colours

DOON Heights karateka Isabella Strydom has set her sights on competing at the JKA WF Africa Cup in Johannesburg in May after she won two gold and two silver medals and earned her provincial colours at the recent JKA KZN Provincial Championships.

Her mother, Tamara Kirsten Strydom, said, 'My heart bursts with pride to say you are mine, Isabella. Every year you do and achieve greater things. A huge thank you to Amanzimtoti JKA Karate for all the hard work put into our children and helping them reach their goals and dreams. SA JKA Karate Association, thank you for all these events that make these goals possible.'
She added that making it to the cup is a massive achievement and it will be Isabella's biggest competition yet, competing against karatekas all over Africa.
'Unfortunately the costs involved are a lot more than I as a single mother can afford alone and we are looking for assistance with sponsorship. We are also doing our annual raffle which has been popular in past years as it allows Isabella to give back to those in the community who help her. This year we have had some amazing local small businesses sponsor prizes. Please consider supporting her fundraiser so that we can get her there to compete,' said Strydom.
Wise beyond her age, Isabella said, 'I'd like to go as far as I can but I don't like the idea of hurting anyone. Karate has taught me to have respect for other people, to be kind and not to have anger issues. I'd like to represent my country in competitions when I get older. I love karate because I can protect my family and defend myself against mean people.'

Rulani: ‘I probably good enough to coach Orlando Pirates'

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena is home in Mzansi after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. Naturally, the two-time Betway Premiership champion has been linked with Orlando Pirates, who are coachless after Jose Riveiro's departure to Al Ahly. While the Buccaneers are yet to name Riveiro's successor, Mokwena remains heavily linked with the Sea Robbers. Percy Tau sends a message to Chiefs and Sundowns Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947, Mokwena was asked if he had gained relevant experience to return to coaching the Buccaneers. Mokwena said, 'When I coached Orlando Pirates, most of the feeling was that I had potential. There was a strong connotation from a family perspective. But now the connection is not so much from a family perspective. Rulani Mokwena and the Orlando Pirates chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza. And now there's a strong feeling that, as a coach, I'm probably good enough to coach Orlando Pirates, and I'm grateful for that. Kaizer Chiefs news: Mako, Monyane, Salum is flirting

Today's Kaizer Chiefs transfer news looks at moves for Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako. There's also more on Feisal Salum. Mako and Monyane have ended their stays at Pirates. Meanwhile, Tanzanian playmaker Feisal Salum remains a target. Like a shortfin Mako shark, Paseka is quick, snappy, compact and aggressive. Mako made 26 appearances in the 2024-2025 season. 2020-2021 was arguably his finest campaign, with four assists in 20 league outings. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Deon Hotto faces an uncertain long-term future. Innocent Maela has left the club, so Pirates are looking a little short at left-back. Pirates find their Mako replacement 27-year-old Feisal Salum reposted a teammate's story to his own account, where he appears to be lying in a bed wearing a tracksuit top with Chiefs' colours. Make your own mind up about what this means. The player has 1.7 million followers on Instagram, so this is unlikely to quieten the rumours. Salum chipped in with an impressive 19 goals for Azam FC during the 2023-2024 campaign. That followed a glittering spell with Young Africans, where the talented playmaker collected consecutive trebles. A proven winner, Salum has 41 caps and four goals for his nation. Kaizer Chiefs complete their first signing, and it's in a problem position!

Kaizer Chiefs have moved quickly to address a relatively weak area in their squad. Can he make them a better side? Thabiso Monyane leaves Orlando Pirates after being promoted to the senior side six years ago. Paseka Mako and Innocent Maela have also ended their time with Pirates. Kaizer Chiefs have completed a deal to sign 24-year-old Thabiso Monyane 'SABC Sport broke the news last week that Amakhosi had been offered the chance to sign the player, and this website has it on good authority that a deal has been reached between the two parties,' an IDiski Times report stated. Orlando Pirates sign replacement for Kaizer Chiefs-bound Paseka Mako Feisal Salum reposted a teammate's story to his own account, where he appears to be lying in a bed wearing a tracksuit top with Chiefs' colours. Make your own mind up about what this means. The player has 1.7 million followers on Instagram, so this is unlikely to quieten the rumours. That followed a glittering spell with Young Africans, where the talented playmaker collected consecutive trebles. A proven winner, Salum has 41 caps and four goals for his nation. The Zanzibar-born star hasn't replicated last season's form for Azam FC this time around. His last goal for the club came back in December 2024, and his side sits third in the Tanzanian Premier League, a massive 16 points adrift of leaders Young Africans.
