Sue Cleaver reflects on '25 years of laughs' after Coronation Street exit
Eileen Grimshaw had a special send-off during Friday's episode of the soap, where she was seen leaving for Thailand alongside her son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas. Simon Gregson's character Steve McDonald, Tony Maudsley's George Shuttleworth, and Eileen's son Todd, played by Gareth Pierce, all said goodbye to the matriarch before drivers from the local taxi firm honked their horns as she was driven off. In an Instagram post, Cleaver said: 'Well… that's a wrap. 25 years of laughs, tears, costumes, chaos — and one unforgettable journey. A post shared by Sue Cleaver (@officialsuecleaver) 'I'll miss this character like crazy, but what a ride it's been. Thank you for every moment.' Cleaver has played the outspoken and uncomplicated Eileen in the ITV show since 2000. Eileen came to Weatherfield to work at the local taxi firm, Streetcars, to provide for her two tearaway teenage children, Jason and Todd. She soon became friends with her boss Steve and came into conflict with Helen Worth's character Gail Rodwell (also known as Gail Platt). Cleaver took part in I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022, where she opened up about reconciling with her birth mother, and was eliminated third. She also said her family is 'bizarrely interconnected' to other Coronation Street stars, including Worth who is godmother to one of her half-sisters, while her other half-sister's husband, John Bowe, appeared on the cobbles as Duggie Ferguson. In 2024, she released a book A Work In Progress in which she discusses how she feels she is not past her prime. In recent years she has appeared as a panellist on ITV chat show Loose Women.

7News Melbourne star Melina Sarris welcomed her second child with husband Jonathan on Monday. The reporter, who also shares three-year-old son Romeo with her partner, gave birth to a baby girl, sharing the exciting news to Instagram on Friday. Following a heartbreaking fertility journey which included three miscarriages, Melina penned, 'Our baby girl is finally here,' and shared the bub's adorable name—Clover. The post included a gallery of photos which saw the now mother-of-two cradling her bundle of joy as her son Romeo and husband Jonathan looked on. In one sweet image, Romeo gave his baby sister a kiss on the forehead. Melina's fellow reporters flocked to the comments to share their congratulations. 'Welcome to a wonderful world and a wonderful family, little cutie Clover! Congratulations Mummy Mel!' wrote Melbourne journalist Paul Dowsley. 'Congrats Mel and fam. She's adorable,' 9News Melbourne star Neary Ty said. 7News Melbourne sports presenter Rebecca Maddern said: 'Absolutely stunning. Enjoy that love bubble.' 'Precious baby girl. You are so loved,' commented reporter Sara Jones. It comes after Melina and her husband suffered a heartbreaking fertility journey as they attempted to have a second child. 'I suffered three miscarriages in the space of 12 months, including one at 11 weeks and another devastating loss at 20 weeks,' Melina told 7News on Friday. 'There is so much self blame and guilt associated with miscarriage. I often blamed my body and felt like I was letting us down.' Following their struggle to have another baby, Melina and Jonathan turned to IVF in 2024 and were overjoyed to welcome Clover as a result. 'I think it's important to talk about the topic and the reality of trying to grow a family. It's not always easy. Fertility issues can affect anyone,' Melina added. She went on to say her family of four 'is now complete and it's just the best feeling'. Melina has been very open about her heartbreaking string of miscarriages. In February, when the news reporter was 23 weeks pregnant with Clover, she revealed she also had another miscarriage before her son Romeo was born. She told Herald Sun her pregnancy defied the odds with doctors telling her to 'stop trying'. 'I fell pregnant again when Romeo was 14 months and I've lost one at 11 weeks, 20 weeks and just over six weeks in the space of a year,' Melina admitted. 'We said, "Let's give it one last shot," and we went through IVF and were lucky it happened first go.' Melina's fellow reporters flocked to the comments to share their congratulations Melina added she suffered a miscarriage at work, as well as a seizure while undergoing surgery. She also revealed she had grown tired of 'telling people and retracting it,' but remained confident of a happy outcome this time around. 'We are blessed to have one healthy child and I am so fortunate now,' she said. 'I'm starting to get confident because I can feel it kicking. I'm due end of May and I'm done putting my life on hold so this will be it.' Melina also told the publication she would be delivering the baby via C-section. Liverpool make huge new Wirtz offer in bid to strike British record transfer
Liverpool have submitted a new offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz - but are still below the German club's valuation of the player. The bid totals £113million with £100m initially and a further £13m in add ons. It would be a British transfer record, eclipsing the £107m that Chelsea splashed out on Enzo Fernandes back in 2023. But Bayer Leverkusen believe the German star is worth £126m (€150m). Talks are continuing between the clubs and will go on through the weekend. Liverpool do not want to pay the full asking price the Bundesliga side are looking for and are hoping to strike a compromise. Wirtz, 22, has made it clear to his club that he only wants to move to Anfield after Manchester City opted out of the race for his signature when it became clear his preference was Merseyside. Sporting director Richard Hughes is leading negotiations and is hopeful a deal can be reached in the coming days. Boss Arne Slot sees Wirtz as a player who can push Liverpool forward as they bid to defend the Premier League title and go for glory in the Champions League. He's seen as a talent who can make an instant impact but with the potential to become even better over the coming years. Personal terms won't be an issue once a fee is agreed and the player is waiting for the green light to head to Liverpool for a medical next week after Germany face France in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday. Rudi Voller, the former Leverkusen sporting director, speculated that progress on a deal was being made earlier this week. 'It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool,' Voller told DAZN. 'I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. [But with] transfers like this [it's] often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached. Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through. 'Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen but also for the national team. That's why he costs a few euros more.' Join our new WhatsApp communityand receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
