Driver in fatal Greenville car crash charged with death by vehicle

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A Greenville man has been charged with death by vehicle after a fatal car crash.
Greenville police responded to reports of a two car collision on May 14, around 7pm, on SW Greenville Boulevard. An investigation revealed that a white Dodge Charger was speeding and using the center turn lane as a travel lane. The Charger allegedly merged into to traffic and collided with a blue Nissan that was leaving a Family Dollar parking lot. The driver of the Nissan, 24 year old Jalen Elijah Wright, was pronounced dead at the scene. The three occupants of the Charger sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Charger, 18 year old Avian Hewlett, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving/wanton disregard, speeding, unsafe tires and improper lane change.
