Gogglebox favourite set to become a millionaire with huge investments

Daily Mirrora day ago

The Channel 4 star, who has been a staple of Gogglebox since 2017, is now able to splash the cash thanks to keeping up his blue collar job while filming the reality show
Gogglebox star Pete Sandiford is on track to become a millionaire, thanks to some seriously smart money moves away from the TV screen. The 30-year-old, who's been a fan favourite on the Channel 4 show since 2017 alongside his younger sister Sophie, has been quietly building a small fortune behind the scenes.
The siblings are known for having a hilarious back-and-forth, and have become staples of the Channel 4 show. While Pete's telly antics earn him around £1,500 per episode - split with his sister, of course - he has never solely relied on fame to fund his lifestyle. In fact, he still works as a roofer and builder, and often splits his time between filming and being up on rooftops in his hometown of Blackpool.

Pete co-runs a successful construction business, TJ Joinery & Construction (NW) Ltd, which posted a tidy profit of over £88,000 in its first set of accounts. But that's just the start of his entrepreneurial streak. He has recently launched two companies of his own: Corgi Media Ltd, which handles his earnings from the entertainment world, and Corgi Real Estate – a property investment firm.
His first real estate ventures involved purchasing a house in Fleetwood and an apartment in Thornton-Cleveleys, which are reportedly each worth £80,000.
Industry insiders say these investments, combined with his building business and TV work, have significantly boosted his net worth - and he is now well on the way to joining the millionaire club.
Although his bank balance is growing rapidly, Pete has stayed humble. He told The Sun he still finds it odd to be treated as a celebrity, adding: "I'm just a builder from Blackpool. It's a bit strange when people know who we are. I was on a roof yesterday."
Pete and Sophie first appeared on Gogglebox during its tenth season. Off-screen, Pete is married to Paige Yeomans, who he has two young children with. She gave birth to their son Jimmy in late 2021, and they went on to have Evie together in June 2023.

He tends to keep his family life private, and only confirmed his engagement after Sophie let it slip during filming. However, he did open up about a family-related matter on Gogglebox once, admitting his wife was stressing him out during the process of trying to plan Evie's birthday party.
Pete told his sister: "Paige has been doing my head in. You know [daughter] Eva's birthday party? Have you rung about the hot pot? Have you rung about the hot pot? I was in a meeting at work the other day and she rung me four times. Guess what about?"
With a chuckle, he continued: "Honestly, I said, why are we not just having sandwiches? Do I look like I am Jeff Bezos?" Meanwhile, Sophie previously worked at Debenhams before retraining as a florist. She has now launched her own business called Petali Floristry. She is also in a long-term relationship with boyfriend Ben McKeown.

The soap is highlighting child to parent abuse (CPA) in a dark storyline. After Lucas' brain tumour operation, he had been concerned about boyfriend Dillon (Nathaniel Dass). Fans know Dillon recently went through a terrifying exploitation ordeal plot. However, Ste insisted Lucas focus on his own recovery, rather than ask about his boyfriend. While in the village, Ste spotted Dillon attempting to steal cash from Liberty Savage's market stall. Dillon rocked back and forth on the ground, while declaring that he needed more spice. Upon seeing Ste, Dillon blamed him for his poor mental state. Ste apologised for keeping Lucas and Dillon apart and for referring to Dillon as "just an addict". Realising it could help both Dillon and Lucas' recovery, Ste invited him to live with the family. But Lucas was left confused later on after Ste broke the news to him. Hollyoaks star quits after nine years - and his final scenes have already aired Ste explained how he'd told Dillon to break up with Lucas - as well as keep away during the operation and recovery. Left furious, Lucas raged: "What kind of a dad does that? None of this is okay. You've messed with my whole life, Dad." The pair's argument soon got more heated as they pushed each other. This saw Lucas then get violent by punching dad Ste in the stomach. Lived experience organisation PEGS (Parental Education Growth Support) have consulted with Hollyoaks on this storyline. Michelle John, Founding Director of PEGS, said: 'We're proud to support Hollyoaks in bringing awareness to Child to Parent Abuse, taking a vital step towards this important issue being more widely recognised and spoken about. "CPA is often hidden or misunderstood, and it's vital that we start more conversations about what families are really experiencing behind closed doors. "Being such a popular programme, we know that the Hollyoaks storyline will help parents who are experiencing abusive behaviours to feel more confident in asking for support from those around them. "We're also confident it will provoke these much-needed conversations among the wider public, and we thank the production team and the actors for their commitment to portraying the storyline in a sensitive and realistic manner. Darkest soap storylines Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock... EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) - Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca's adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police. Emmerdale: Holly's drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) - In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale's first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose. Hollyoaks: Luke's rape (2000) - Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap's first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs - who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance. Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) - Just a mere mention of 'Richard Hillman' is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it's not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn't. "Families experiencing CPA are not looking for blame to be placed upon their children, and this storyline reflects the need for early intervention, support and understanding as well as highlighting the complex emotions and challenges many families face.' While Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste, previously said: "This storyline is one that as a parent is conflicting, as you would do anything for your kids. "We often think of parents disciplining children, but what happens when the dynamic is reversed? It's uncomfortable, it's emotional, and it's real. We've worked closely with experts to make sure this is portrayed truthfully, and I hope it encourages the kind of conversations that might help families going through similar situations feel seen and supported.' 4 Dillon and Lucas are both going through recovery Credit: Channel 4 / Lime pictures

Channel 4 urges people to apply for 'record-breaking' Virgin Island season 2

Virgin Island fans are getting their wish, and you could get involved when the series returns for another round. The first season of the controversial Channel 4 reality show – which saw 12 adult virgins guided by seven experts to help explore their intimacy issues – reached its climax last month, with fans conflicted but still eager for more. While some viewers found the whole thing a little cringe, the broadcaster has hailed record numbers and confirmed plans for season 2. The show rose 'to the top of Channel 4's list of new unscripted launches for share of 16-34s since modern records began', above the likes of Late Night Lycett, Supernanny, The Jury: Murder Trial and the original series of Married At First Sight. As well as bringing in almost nine million viewers on streaming for the whole series thus far, it's currently C4's most watched show in the demographic for 2025, above Gogglebox, Taskmaster and more. So, it's not surprising that Channel 4 is and Double Act Productions are now calling on virgins to apply for a second season. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'It's been such a thrill to watch this show catch fire,' said Virgin Island Commissioning Editor, Jonah Weston. 'From the brave cast to our wonderful experts I don't think I've ever worked on anything quite so bold, warm and well-intentioned.' And Ian Katz, Chief Content Officer at C4, added: 'Virgin Island is the kind of show only Channel 4 would make, exploring an important but under-discussed social issue with warmth, sensitivity and wit. 'We're delighted that it resonated with younger viewers and that the men and women who took part found it such a constructive experience.' It should be noted, appearing on such an intimate show won't be for everyone – but the broadcaster has a 'lengthy selection progress with several stages', where applicants can withdraw at any time. You can sign up and start application process here, but there are some key details to keep in mind. First thing's first – Channel 4 wants you to make sure potential Islanders have watched season 1. Before you can land a first Zoom interview, you 'will be required to have watched (and be able to discuss) at least 2 episodes', and all six to progress further. Naturally, you have to be a virgin to apply, as well as aged 21 or over at the time of applying, as well as a UK resident with 'a valid passport for travel in autumn 2025. Meanwhile, Double Act Productions noted its commitment to an 'inclusive cast', and they welcome 'applications from deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people'. As you'd expect, no one on the Sex Offender Register is allowed to apply, while anyone filling out the application for the series must be 'honest and true'. If you make it on the shortlist, there will be 'a set of one-to-one meetings' in London in August 2025, which are described as 'essential to be considered'. More Trending The application form continues: 'If invited to take part in the retreat, you may be required for a day's interview filming in the UK around September 2025. 'You must then be available to film at the retreat for approx. three weeks abroad in autumn 2025. You are responsible for getting the permitted time off work or study, if relevant.' Controversial Channel 4 show has been renewed despite 'disturbing' reviews

Virgin Island received backlash from viewers for the show's 'exploitative' premise, which involved encouraging adult virgins to embrace their sexuality for the first time on TV Channel 4's boundary-pushing series Virgin Island has officially been renewed for a second series, despite a wave of backlash from shocked viewers who branded it "disturbing" and "exploitative". Virgin Island, which has been described as "groundbreaking and heartwarming" by Channel 4 bosses, followed 12 adult virgins on a journey of sexual self-discovery at a luxury Mediterranean retreat. Participants in the show were guided through a unique intimacy course by sexologists Celeste Hirschman and Dr. Danielle Harel, which is designed to help them overcome their fears around sex and connection. ‌ Although every episode aired after the 9pm watershed, many viewers were stunned by the show's unfiltered approach to experiential sex therapy – which saw one of the participants lose their virginity to sex surrogate on the show. ‌ At the time, audiences took to X to share their thoughts, with one writing: "It feels wrong to be watching this." Another viewer shared: "This is just getting disturbingly weird now." "This is so exploitative. I'm panicking myself and I'm watching it at home!! I can't even imagine being one of them right now. This is awful," wrote a third. And a fourth said: "I'm sorry but that Virgin island maybe the most disturbing thing channel 4 has ever released". Despite the controversy, Virgin Island has quickly become Channel 4's biggest streaming hit of the year across all genres. It is now the most-watched show for 16–34s in 2025 so far, overtaking major titles like Taskmaster, Gogglebox, and Married at First Sight Australia. The first season had a series average of 1.4 million viewers per episode, and received almost 9 million total streams, so it is clear the show struck a chord with younger audiences. Ian Katz, Channel 4's Chief Content Officer, said: "Virgin Island is the kind of show only Channel 4 would make – exploring an important but under-discussed social issue with warmth, sensitivity and wit. We're delighted that it resonated with younger viewers." ‌ The show's commissioning editor, Jonah Weston, added: "This is a live issue among young people, and from the brave cast to our wonderful experts, I don't think I've ever worked on anything quite so bold, warm and well-intentioned. Watch out for season 2 – it'll be even bigger and bolder." Executive Producer Rob Davis called the show's success "incredible", adding: "Its bold and fresh approach clearly struck a chord with the younger generation." ‌ One of the most controversial practises on the show was the use of surrogate partners, who were professionals the cast were allowed to practise sexual intimacy with if they so desired. However, the show's sexologists have defended Channel 4's methods, emphasising that the stars were looked after every step of the way. Celeste and Danielle shared: "A surrogate partner therapist works in conjunction with a traditional licensed therapist and then a client. The therapist is there so if anything emotional comes up for the client that they have someone to process it with, and the surrogate partner can go step-by-step through erotic experiences." Danielle continued: "During the show, all the coaches, all the practitioners were really mindful about consent. We taught them first to say no. We kept checking, tracking their like nervous system and if they're like recoiling like., 'What's happening?' "So we're constantly aware of making sure that they are comfortable even though it's not like it was easy, but they're comfortable with the next growing moment." Virgin Island participant Dave, who was the only person to lose his virginity on the show, has also spoken highly of it, saying: "I had an amazing time on the island… I can't speak highly enough of the experts and production team. I was lucky enough to achieve the ultimate aim of the series whilst on the island, and I can't wait to see the next group of participants go on the same journey. It's completely changed my life."
