Mohit Suri says he would love to work with his 'Aashiqui 2' lead pair Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur: 'I have to find a good script...'
Over a decade after
Aashiqui 2
struck a chord with millions, fans are still hoping for a reunion between director
Mohit Suri
and its beloved lead pair,
Aditya Roy Kapur
and
Shraddha Kapoor
. With Aashiqui 3 constantly sparking buzz, Suri has finally broken his silence — and his honest take might surprise you.
In an interview with Filmygyan, the filmmaker was asked if he would reunite Aditya and Shraddha, the beloved lead pair from Aashiqui 2, for the next instalment in the franchise. Suri responded with refreshing honesty.
Suri further admitted that while he would love to work with Aditya and Shraddha again, the decision ultimately lies with the producers — joking that they don't seem keen to hire him. Reflecting on the pressure of matching Aashiqui 2's success, he said the burden is heavy and he would only return if he finds a script that surpasses the original, which he admitted is no easy task.
Mohit's comments suggest that both creative challenges and behind-the-scenes decisions are key factors preventing his return to the beloved franchise that redefined Bollywood romance in the 2010s. Released in 2013, Aashiqui 2 was a blockbuster, thanks to its soul-stirring music, emotional depth, and the sizzling chemistry between Aditya and Shraddha — a pairing that had fans swooning both on and off screen.
The director is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Saiyaara, backed by
Yash Raj Films
. The romantic drama introduces newcomers
Ahaan Panday
and Aneet Padda in a soulful tale of love, music, and heartbreak. Ahaan stars as Krish, an aspiring singer, while Aneet plays a passionate songwriter. With music composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami, the film promises emotional depth and melodious tunes.
The trailer has already earned praise from industry insiders, including Aashiqui 2 stars Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur. Saiyaara is set to release in theatres on July 18.

Saiyaara box office day 9 collection: Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda's film sails past ₹200 crore milestone
'Saiyaara', starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has emerged as a surprise blockbuster, surpassing the ₹ 200 crore mark within just nine days of its theatrical release. On its second Saturday (day 9), the romantic drama added ₹ 15.32 crore to its kitty, taking the total box office collection to an impressive ₹ 206.07 crore. The film had a stellar opening week, collecting ₹ 172.75 crore in its first seven days, fuelled by positive word-of-mouth, strong youth appeal, and chart-topping music. Despite facing competition from several big releases, 'Saiyaara' maintained strong footfalls into its second week, earning ₹ 18 crore on its second Friday and showing a minor dip on Saturday. What's particularly notable is the widespread pan-India appeal the film seems to have cultivated. Urban centres continue to show strong interest, with Chennai leading the occupancy chart at a robust 62.5%, followed closely by Bengaluru at 54.5%. The National Capital Region (NCR) and Mumbai also recorded solid occupancies at 35.5% and 31.5% respectively, reflecting sustained interest across metro cities. Other cities such as Pune (33%), Jaipur (37.5%), and Chandigarh (32.5%) also reported healthy theatre occupancies, while places like Surat (13.5%) and Kolkata (21.5%) witnessed relatively subdued turnout. Directed by Mohit Suri, 'Saiyaara' has not only served as a launching pad for its lead actors but also struck a chord with audiences through its emotional storytelling and stylish execution. The film's success is being hailed as a fresh sign of promise in Bollywood's evolving landscape, particularly for fresh faces and romantic narratives. With consistent collections and strong regional performance, 'Saiyaara' is now expected to continue its dream run well into its second week, possibly eyeing the ₹ 250 crore milestone if the momentum holds steady.
