USA Today14-07-2025
After an ugly start to the Las Vegas Summer League, the Golden State Warriors returned to the court on Sunday evening with a chance at a bounce-back performance. To open the Summer League in the desert, the Warriors got blown out by the Portland Trail Blazers, 106-73 on Friday. Fast forward to Sunday, it was a much-needed different story for the Warriors against the Utah Jazz.
Led by Gabe Madsen, the Warriors secured their first win of the Summer League with a 103-93 victory over the Utah Jazz.
Madsen, the undrafted free agent guard out of Utah, paced the Warriors with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Madsen, a career 36% shooter from deep at the college level, showed off his shooting with six made triples on 10 attempts against the Jazz.
Alongside Madsen, both Golden State rookies, Alex Toohey and Will Richard, notched double-figure scoring performances against the Jazz. Toohey tallied 15 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field while Richard added 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field with six boards.
Chris Manon and Jaden Shackleford each added double-figure scoring numbers as the Warriors improved to 1-1 in the Las Vegas Summer League.
While the Jazz were without both Walter Clayton Jr. and Ace Bailey, Cody Williams and Kyle Filipowski combined for 43 points against the Warriors.
The Warriors will return to the court on Tuesday against the Memphis Grizzlies in Las Vegas.

Who is RJ Luis Jr., and why did the Boston Celtics trade for him?

Who is RJ Luis Jr., and why did the Boston Celtics trade for him? The Celtics elected to send vet reserve forward Georges Niang into the Utah Jazz cap space along with a pair of second round draft picks last week, taking back only the undrafted two way wing in the deal in order to make it the minimum trade requirements in the NBA's collective bargaining agreement. In so doing, the front office also created a bit of a log jam with their own two way players, eventually deciding to cut ties with more veteran two way forward Miles Norris with No. 57 2025 draft pick Max Shulga also signed to a two way deal and No. 46 2025 draft pick Amari Williams yet to sign any deal with Boston. The folks behind the "NESN" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Hold My Banner" podcast that takes a closer look at the trade for Luis Jr. Check it out below! Warriors will face Nikola Jokic and Nuggets in home opener Oct. 23

Nikola Jokic is coming to Chase Center right off the bat. The Golden State Warriors will play their home opener Oct. 23 against Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, the Warriors announced Tuesday. ESPN will televise the game to a national audience, with a 7 p.m. tipoff. Tuesday's announcement also made official what filtered out last week: The Warriors will open their season Oct. 21 with a road game against LeBron James, Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers (7:30 p.m. on NBC). Golden State also confirmed it will host Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day (2 p.m. on ABC). The NBA plans to release the full 2025-26 schedule on Thursday. The Warriors lost two of their three games against Jokic and the Nuggets last season. Jokic, a three-time MVP, missed one of those games and averaged 35.5 points in the other two. Denver finished 50-32 in the regular season, then beat the L.A. Clippers in the first round before falling to eventual NBA champion Oklahoma City in the Western Conference semifinals. The Warriors went 48-34, defeated Houston in the first round and lost to Minnesota in the conference semis.
