(RPF) booked the 43-year-old cattle owner subsequently. The train was halted at the spot for 14 minutes before resuming towards its destination.
After the train has left, RPF personnel from Vriddhachalam conducted round-the-clock surveillance of the accident site. About six hours from the incident, they nabbed the cattle owner, G Sivakumar, of Manalur near Vriddhachalam, when he was trying to clear the carcass of his bovine, a RPF officer said.
Sivakumar was booked under Section 154 of the Railways Act, 1989, for endangering passengers' safety.
A railway official said that such incidents will be dealt with seriousness. Cattle owners and residents along railway lines must remain alert and ensure that livestock are not straying close to tracks. As such incidents compromise passengers' safety and disrupt train operations, the livestock owner will be held responsible, the official added.
