Joe Pavelski, Taylor Twellman share lead in American Century celebrity golf tournament

(AP) — Former NHL player Joe Pavelski birdied the final three holes Saturday for a share of the second-round lead with former soccer player Taylor Twellman in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe. Pavelski, the first-round leader who finished second last year behind former tennis player Mardy Fish, had a 21-point day in the modified Stableford scoring system to match Twellman at 44. Twellman had a 23-point round. 'Obviously, Twellman has been playing great,' Pavelski said. 'To finish birdie, birdie, birdie and be tied with him, I'll take that all day.' Country star Jake Owen was third at 41 after a 25-point round, and Carolina Panthers receiver Adam Thielen was another point back following a 21-point day. Juan Soto's 435-foot homer lifts Mets over Royals 3-1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Juan Soto homered to lead the New York Mets past the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Saturday. Soto's two-run shot into the right field fountains opened the scoring in the fourth. Over his last 20 games, Soto has nine home runs and 19 RBIs. Frankie Montas (2-1) threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of 19 batters while allowing a run on four hits and striking out five. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Michael Conforto had three hits and scored twice, Shohei Ohtani took another encouraging step back on the mound in his recovery from elbow surgery and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Saturday to end a seven-game losing streak. Ohtani threw three scoreless innings in his longest outing in a Dodgers uniform since signing with the team in 2023. Ohtani, who did not pitch last season 2024, threw 36 pitches, allowed one hit and had four strikeouts. The two-way Japanese star was also the Dodgers' designated hitter and batted leadoff. He went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. Rafael Devers had a sacrifice fly for San Francisco.
