Legendary DeKalb basketball coach accused of spanking players
Channel 2's Tom Jones reported Columbia High School's former head basketball coach, Dr. Phillip McCrary, is out of a job.

McCrary was a legend at the school, with the gym being named after him. He won hundreds of games during his coaching career.
Video believed to have led to the end of McCrary's employment with DeKalb County Schools was shared by a parent of a former player who is no longer at the school.
She asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation.
'When I saw the video, I was heartbroken,' she said. 'I was heartbroken because we trusted this man.'
She says the video shows McCrary telling a player to lower his pants in a hotel room while the team was in the Bahamas for a tournament in November.

She says the coach then hits the player forcibly on his backside with his shoe several times.
'Then he says, 'Why is it happening?' And then the young man said, 'Because I invited a girl up to the room,' the mother said.
She says another player was also hit with the shoe.
Jones went to McCrary's home and asked if he had a second to talk. McCrary said no. Jones asked if he had a comment but didn't get a response.
A spokesperson for the school district said they couldn't comment on personnel matters and said the safety of students is its highest priority.
She went on to say McCrary is no longer employed by the district as of Monday.

This mother says letting him go is the right decision.
'That's humiliating. It's not OK,' she said.
The mother says after her son left the school recently, he felt empowered to come forward about what happened.
She says he was in that room and the incident took a toll on his mental health.

Clock ticking for Arizona Cardinals with cutdown deadline eight days away
Howard Balzer goes through each position, breaking them down by likelihood of making the roster. All NFL teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players by 1 p.m. Arizona time on August 26. For the Arizona Cardinals, several decisions will be impacted by injured players, including those currently on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Any players placed on reserve/PUP at the cutdown must miss at least the first four games of the season and can't practice while on reserve. With 91 players currently on the roster, there will likely be several reductions made prior to the 26th. That total includes international player, tackle Roy Mbaeteka, who could be the team's 17th player on the practice squad. The waiver period ends earlier than normal after the cut to 53, which is 9 a.m. Arizona time Aug. 27, rather than 1 pm. Practice squad spots can then be filled once players clear waivers. All teams can have six veterans on the practice squad. Those players aren't part of the waiver system as their contracts are immediately terminated. Here is a look at the Cardinals' current roster. It's not a prediction of the 53, but rather the 40 position players considered safe and 17 hoping to survive cutdown day, knowing that there will be roster churn after cutdown day. Many in the 'maybe, maybe not' category will end up on the practice squad. It should never be called the 'final' cut. Wide receivers Tight ends Offensive lineman There are tough choices here with the severity of knee injuries to Conner and Jones unknown. Running backs Quarterbacks If Tune is waived, will the Cardinals sign him to the practice squad. They did last year with Desmond Ridder. Total: 20 rock solid, 7 maybe, maybe not, 3 injured Defensive linemen Jones has been sidelined by a knee injury, while Nichols and Nolen have yet to practice during training camp. Jaguars trading O lineman to Saints for D tackle
The Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints have agreed to a trade involving Jags offensive lineman Luke Fortner for Saints defensive tackle Khalen Saunders, pending physicals, the teams announced today. Saunders, who was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, will be joining the Jaguars after a stint with the Saints. What will decide Colts' Anthony Richardson-Daniel Jones QB battle as coach drops massive hint
The Colts' quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones is going to come down to one thing: consistency. That's according to head coach Shane Steichen, who said Saturday the deciding factor will boil down to which of the former first-round picks can produce a stable body of work in both play and decision-making. 'I think it's the most consistent guy,' Steichen said, according to the Indy Star. 'I really do, because at the end of the day, you've got to be able to move the football consistently up and down the field, and making good decisions. You know what I mean? I mean, at the end of the day, you can have splash plays, but if you're doing that sparingly and up and down. … I think it's got to be on a consistent basis, to get to where we want to go.'
