Carlos Alcaraz dances and high-fives ball kids in heartwarming moment after staging jaw-dropping comeback to beat Jannik Sinner and win French Open

Carlos Alcaraz celebrated his stunning French Open title in a heartwarming moment with Roland Garros ball kids - after struggling to express how he had done it.
'I didn't know what I had to do to win this match at three match points down in the fourth,' said the No 2 seed after beating Jannik Sinner to defend his crown.
'Being two sets to love down against the world No 1, the level Jannik was playing…
'I just tried to keep it going, not thinking about the result, not thinking about anything, just fighting point after point. At the end of the fifth set I was playing with my heart.'
In a fitting end to a jaw-dropping, five-hour marathon on Philippe Chatrier, Alcaraz took the time to share his success with a group of ball kids.
A video posted by the official Roland Garros account on X showed the Spaniard being given a round of applause by ball kids lined up on either side of a staircase.

He couldn't help but smile as he made his way down and then led the youngsters in an impromptu dance session, in which he pogoed on the spot.
After one final hug, a beaming Alcaraz disappeared into the bowels of the venue.
Sinner, who led by two sets to love and then had three match points, said to Alcaraz on court: 'Amazing performance, amazing battle, amazing everything. You deserve it.'
In the more sombre arena of a press conference room, the world No 1 reflected: 'This one hurts. It was a very high-level match, that's for sure. So I was happy to be part of this. But the result hurts. In every set, I tried to delete everything.
'In Grand Slams you try to start from zero again. I was of course disappointed about the fourth set, the match points and serving for the match. But I stayed there mentally.
'I didn't give him any free points.'
Juan Carlos Ferrero, Alcaraz's coach since childhood, said: 'I think Carlos's strength is to keep believing all the time until the last ball is gone.
'He was 0-40 in the fourth, 5-3 down, and he looks at me and still shakes his racquet at me (in celebration), like saying: "I'm still here, vamos".
'I'm not going to say I believed it was possible to recover from there. But with Carlos, everything is possible.'

Emma Raducanu knocked out of Canadian Open

Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of the National Bank Open in Montreal by American fifth seed Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu lost in straight sets, with Anisimova securing a dominant 6-2 6-1 victory. The British number one struggled significantly with her serve, managing to hold it only once in each set. Despite having won their two previous encounters, Raducanu failed to secure another break point after the initial stages of the match. Anisimova's win sees her advance to the last 16, where she will play either Elina Svitolina or Anna Kalinskaya.

Liverpool's Tyler Morton inching closer to joining Lyon in a deal worth up to £15m - with the Reds starlet in search of first-team football

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is close to securing a move to French side Lyon worth up to £15million. The England U21 international has been looking to move for more regular first team game time and has attracted enquiries from a number of clubs including West Ham, Sporting Braga, Ajax and Strasbourg. Liverpool have been holding out for £15m for the 22-year old homegrown academy graduate and Lyon have now provisionally agreed terms with a deal expected to go through. Morton spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Championship side Hull City. The 22-year-old returned to Merseyside last season but could only manage six appearances in all competitions as Arne Slot led the club to Premier League glory in his maiden campaign in charge. Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez remains an option for Saudi club Al Hilal. Liverpool have been holding out for £70m for the Uruguay international and have already rejected an approach from Al Nassr in February and again more recently from Napoli. Newcastle have Nunez on their long list of options but they have other targets higher up as priorities and Liverpool are yet to indicate if they will make a new bid for Alexander Isak. Meanwhile former Manchester United coach Simon Wiles has taken over as Liverpool U18 coach.

Defending champion Pegula sent packing by Sevastova at Canadian Open, Swiatek through

Aug 2 (Reuters) - Twice defending champion Jessica Pegula crashed out of the Canadian Open after losing to Anastasija Sevastova 3-6 6-4 6-1 in the third round on Friday, while six-times major winner Iga Swiatek marched on with a dominant 6-2 6-2 win over Eva Lys. The 35-year-old Sevastova, ranked 386 in the world, will next face four-times Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, who took out Latvian 22nd seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2 6-4. "I don't know," Sevastova said after upsetting third seed Pegula. "Somehow, I was down 2-0 in the second set and started to play better and better. Third set, I played really good. Just trying to stay on the court as long as possible." Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova, seeded fifth in Montreal, carved out a comfortable win over Emma Raducanu, beating the 2021 U.S. Open champion 6-2 6-1. Anisimova's win over Raducanu is her first, having lost their previous two encounters. She will next face Ukrainian 10th seed Elina Svitolina. In the men's draw, American second seed Taylor Fritz made light work of local hope Gabriel Diallo, beating the 27th seed 6-4 6-2. Fritz, who is eyeing a third title of the season after triumphs in Eastbourne and Stuttgart, will next take on Czech 19th seed Jiri Lehecka. "Even the games that I didn't serve my best in, I felt like I backed it up really well from the baseline, so I'm happy with that," Fritz said. American fourth seed Ben Shelton, however, was made to work hard by countryman Brandon Nakashima before managing a 6-7(8) 6-2 7-6(5) win. "It was back and forth," Shelton said. "There were a lot of huge moments, like being able to break back after getting broken in my first service game of the third set. I feel like I showed a lot of perseverance tonight." Next up for Shelton is Italian 13th seed Flavio Cobolli.
