Malayalam film industry to protest CBFC move blocking Suresh Gopi film
The CBFC revising committee had verbally directed the makers of the Suresh Gopi-starrer film, JSK, to change the name of the titular character, as Janaki is another name of Goddess Sita.
Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) general secretary B Unnikrishnan told reporters here on Friday that people belonging to the entire film industry will take part in the protest before the CBFC office in Thiruvananthapuram.
Unnikrishnan said the teaser and trailer of JSK, cleared by the censor board, were being run in the theatres for the last one month. We do not know if it has created any communal disharmony.
The film's director, Pravin Narayanan, in his Facebook post on Thursday, confirmed that he had been told by the revising committee members that the name of the central character be changed to get a certification.
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court, which is hearing a petition filed by the film's makers against the delay in getting certification, directed the censor board to inform its decision to the court on Friday itself.

Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place top picks for filmmakers under Delhi Film Policy
New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) Nearly 95 per cent of movies filmed in the national capital are shot at Chandni Chowk and Connaught Place, according to a DTTDC official who hopes the Delhi Film Policy, introduced in 2022, will encourage more filmmakers to cinematically explore the historic landmarks of the city. Since its launch, around 39 films and web series have been shot under the policy framework till 2025, according to the official from Delhi Transport and Tourism Development Corporation, which looks after the policy. Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Kesari 2" was filmed across Red Fort, Sunder Nursery, and Delhi University's North Campus and Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani" showcased the leafy lanes of Chittaranjan Park in South Delhi, and the upcoming third installment is also expected to feature key portions of the city, he added. Not only films but popular web series, be it 'Special Ops" or 'Paatal Lok", also had many portions set in Delhi. Under the policy, about 20 applications are expected to be accepted for film shooting permissions through its e-Film Clearance portal in 2025-26. In 2024-25, the portal received 10 applications. At least 15 of the new applications are likely to be cleared within 30 days. Plans are also underway to link the e-Film Clearance system with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's India Cine Hub. Publicity material will be rolled out to raise awareness about the initiative, as per the official. The Delhi Film Policy 2022 also established Delhi Film Fund for branding Delhi as a tourist destination. Under the Rs five crore Dilli Film Fund, two applications have been received for performance-based funding. Incentives will also be extended to members of the film support staff, with the final amount to be decided by a designated committee, the official said. With its mix of heritage, modern infrastructure, and a growing support system, Delhi is steadily carving out its place as a sought-after film destination, the official added. Pallavi Joshi Says Halt On The Bengal Files Trailer Launch In Kolkata Was An "Assault On Democracy"
Days after the trailer launch of The Bengal Files in Kolkata was put on hold by the local police, actor Pallavi Joshi on Monday criticised the West Bengal administration for stopping the event in the capital city last week. On August 16, 2025, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri claimed the trailer launch of The Bengal Files was stopped at a five-star hotel in Kolkata. Kolkata Police sources later told NDTV that the director had not sought any administrative permission for public view of the trailer of his upcoming film. Visuals of policemen entering the venue had gone viral on social media. Pallavi Joshi, who stars in her husband Vivek Agnihotri's movie The Bengal Files, described the action by the state government as "unconstitutional". "Since the story is rooted in Bengal, we felt it would be most appropriate to launch the trailer in Bengal in August, but the government silenced us. We feel it is an act which is not only arbitrary but also unconstitutional," the actor said during the trailer launch event of The Bengal Files in New Delhi on Monday. "What happened that day was not merely an assault on the film, but an assault on democracy itself. The voices of people and the voice of Bharat were suppressed and censored. The absence of dignity and the absence of the value of human life are the themes of our film. The government proved our theme is correct," she added, as quoted by India Today. Pallavi Joshi said the launch event of The Bengal Files was halted on "laughable grounds". "They said we didn't have municipal permission... The videos are about the chaos that followed. Many women journalists got hurt. I was also very uncomfortable. Thanks to Vivek, we managed to get out. We feel the police and the government are forgetting their basic duty, that is protecting its citizens, especially women, and their modesty. That should have been the sole priority of women," the actor said. Vivek Agnihotri likened stopping the trailer launch of a CBFC-approved movie like The Bengal Files to "anarchy, dictatorship". "Police had come so that we could not show the movie, the police are being used in Bengal because of some people's political ambitions. The film talks about demography change, and they don't want to show it because the state itself empowers demography change. I cannot be silenced," he told reporters on Saturday. The ruling Trinamool Congress's spokesperson said Vivek Agnihotri's allegations were baseless. The Bengal Files, based on the 1946 Great Calcutta killings, also stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, and Saswata Chatterjee. The film is set to release on September 5, 2025.
