Tanzanian students go on tour of Cumbria police station
Tanzanian students were invited for a tour of Whitehaven Police Station, as part of a link programme, which took place on June 26.
Cumbria Rungwe Community Link students and leaders along with their Cumbrian hosts were treated to a tour of the old custody cell block.
They could look around police vehicles and also had the opportunity to take their own fingerprints.
The students got to look in jail cells (Image: Copeland Police) Copeland Police said: "hank you also to dog handler PC Thomas who attended with his police dogs Luna and Toby, to meet the group and give a little demonstration of their search skills.
"We enjoyed meeting the group and discussing the various differences between policing in the UK compared to Tanzania.
"This is a great initiative that we have supported over previous years and look forward to future visits."

New inquest date set into wife murdered in street
A further inquest hearing into the death of a woman who was murdered by her husband in Bradford city centre has been set. Habibur Masum, 26, repeatedly stabbed 27-year-old Kulsuma Akter after confronting her while she pushed their seven-month-old son in a pram on 6 April 2024. Masum was found guilty of her murder on Friday after a three-week trial at Bradford Crown Court. The inquest into his wife's death opened on 12 April 2024 but was suspended until the criminal proceedings concluded. At Bradford Coroner's Court on Monday, assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst set a new hearing date of 29 July. Ms Brocklehurst said that due to "the wishes of the family of the deceased" the new hearing would take place "for further consideration". Masum, of Leamington Avenue in Burnley, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and possession of a bladed article but was convicted of murder after a trial. He was also convicted of one count of assault by beating, making a threat to kill and stalking. Ms Akter had been living in a refuge in the city since January after Masum held a knife to her throat at their home in Oldham. Masum later confronted her in the city centre having tracked her through her phone location. He pulled a knife from his jacket and stabbed her more than 25 times after she refused to go with him. Pedestrian hit by bin lorry as driver speaks to police at scene
A man suffered potentially serious injuries after a collision with a bin lorry in Birmingham this morning, Monday, June 30. It happened at the junction of Aldridge Road and Holford Drive in Perry Barr at around 7.30am. A man in his 40s, was rushed to hospital. A police investigation was ongoing with road closures in place. A bin wagon was within the police cordon next to a police car. A police spokesman told BirminghamLive: "We were called to the junction of Aldridge Road and Holford Drive at around 7.30am to reports someone had been hit by a lorry. "A man in his 40s was taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries. "The driver stopped and spoke with officers at the scene. "Road closures remain in place as our investigation continues, and we would ask people to avoid the area." An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and pedestrian at the junction of Aldridge Road and Holford Drive at 7.25am. "One ambulance attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the pedestrian. He was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital." West Midlands Roads posted on X: "Due to congestion, the police have closed the right turn from the A34 onto Aldridge Road. "Traffic has to stay on A34 out of city. Avoid the area."

Armed police and drones deployed to Welsh town as road closed for several hours and man arrested
Emergency services including firearms officers and drones swooped on an address in Llandeilo and arrested a man following reports of a disturbance. A man has since been charged with a series of alleged offences. The 42-year-old from Ffairfach, Llandeilo, has been charged with affray, threats to kill, criminal damage, and threats to commit arson. He remains in police custody at this time. "The road was closed for several hours and re-opened at around 5.10pm." The man charged in connection with the incident was due to appear at Llanelli Magistrates Court on June 30.
