The old wives tale that will instantly get rid of sweaty smells on your clothes and ‘works a treat'
THERE'S nothing worse than pulling out an outfit and realising that there is a smell of sweat lingering on the fabric.
There are so many reasons that this can happen - for example, some materials can't be washed, and therefore it's harder to remove bacteria that can transfer into the clothes.

Or if you've bought an outfit off a hanger, then lingering sweat, skin oils, and bacteria can accumulate on it.
Even hanging up clothes that have not completely dried in tight spaces like wardrobes, which aren't well ventilated, can leave a lingering odour.
Luckily, there's a handy old wives' trick that can quickly get rid of this issue, and fashion fans swear it "works a treat".
People have been sharing the top tip on social media after a woman pleaded for help to get a lingering sweat smell off her wedding dress.
Posting on the Wedding DIY UK Facebook group, which boasts 162,400 members, one woman explained she bought her dress off the hanger.
But she revealed that after putting her dress in a bag and leaving it in her wardrobe, she pulled it out the night before her big day and realised there was a strong odour coming from it.
Looking for a quick fix, she posted: "I've just got my dress out of the bag and it smells of stale sweat... I get married tomorrow.
"How do I get rid of this! Please help".
Fashionistas were quick to flock to the comments to share an old wives' tale that works well in taking away the smell.
They explained that creating a mixture of vodka and water is the perfect solution and works on all types of fabric.
Stacey Solomon shares 3p way to clean your windows which doesn't leave any smears & you may already have it at home
All you need to do is fill half of a spray bottle with vodka and top up the other half with water, and mix or shake it thoroughly.
Then just spray the mixture onto the affected clothes and wait for it to work.
Users explained that it "works a treat" on everything from wedding dresses to clothes.
And many revealed it is also an old theatre hack that is often used when certain costumes can't be washed due to the fabric.
One person even said that it works when it comes to collecting and selling vintage clothes.
Posting in the comments, a user said: "There's the traditional customer trick of a bottle of half cheap vodka and half water sprayed onto the dress".
Another added: "Spray it with vodka. It's an old theatre trick. Some costumes can't be washed so they spray them with vodka and it works a treat".
Someone else wrote: "I've heard vintage resellers talking about using vodka to get rid of any smells".
And a fourth shared: "50/50 vodka and water misted on and left to dry. Did this for many years in the theatre."
And a fifth chimed in: "I've heard using vodka is good".
So, how does it work?
If you are a little sceptical about this trick, you're not alone.
But vodka, as it turns out, is actually the perfect odour remover for anything that can't be washed.
This is because vodka itself is odourless and colourless, and it even has a sanitising effect.
What else can vodka clean?
IT'S not just clothes that vodka can remove smells from.
Many homeowners actually use it on their furniture, like their sofas, curtains and mattresses.
Surfaces like these may seem impossible to clean because they're so large and can't always be put in the washing machine, but using this trick routinely can keep them fresh and get rid of unwanted smells.
Using vodka is an easy way to make sure that items you don't want to put in your washing machine can last longer.
And it also works wonders for deodorising well-worn shoes!
Martha Stewart is known for using this hack to keep her boots and shoes fresh and actually shared a video with followers on Instagram.
In the clip, she sprayed a pair of boots in her hallway and said, "Say goodbye to musty smells".
It works because it has a high alcohol content, which kills germs and bacteria, and as you spray it over your clothes, the alcohol surrounds the smelly molecules that are clinging to the material.
As the spray begins to dry, the vodka evaporates, taking the unwanted smell with it, so by the time it is completely dry, the odour has vanished.
It's not just sweaty smells that this hack can be used for - the high alcohol content is also strong enough to remove food smells, to even cigarette smoke.
But before you try this, it's important to make sure you have the right kind of vodka.
It needs to be an unflavoured and colourless bottle, otherwise it will leave marks on the clothes, and they could end up sticky.
The quality doesn't matter, however, so feel free to use the cheapest vodka you have since you're only using it to clean!
If you're buying a new bottle, then take a quick look for the cheapest ones with the highest levels of alcohol content.
Then just spray the fabric with the drink - but make sure you don't leave it soaking wet - and let it work its magic.

Boy taken into care in Slough over sex offender dad concerns
A young boy will be taken into care after a judge found his mother was incapable of protecting him from his sex offender Children First took the case to court over concerns about the contact the father, who was found to have sexually abused his daughter in 2021, was having with the boy's two siblings, including the girl, were taken into care after she alleged that her father had regularly abused father was jailed for two years in 2013 for sexually assaulting a woman. A judge at Slough Family Court found the boy's mother was unwilling or unable to protect the boy. Assessments found the mother's IQ was within the "extremely low range" and ranked on the 0.5th agreements banned the father from visiting the mother's home but he was found to have gone there multiple times over a seven-month boy has significant speech and language delays and was undergoing an assessment for Richard Case found on Thursday that moving the boy from his mother's care would cause harm "but that harm is less than the risk of harm in the mother's care".The father had told social workers that "children can be at fault for sexual abuse" and had continued to deny the accuracy of findings and convictions against judge found that the mother had be unwilling or unable to engage in sexual abuse awareness work or deny the father's judge said: "Should [the boy] come to read this judgement in due course I would want him to be aware that his mother loves him very much and has fought for him to remain in her care."But sadly her limitations, largely not of her own making, mean remaining in her care is just not possible for welfare reasons." Angela Scanlon claims Strictly Come Dancing left her in more pain than childbirth as she recalls nasty injuries that left her BLEEDING
Angela Scanlon has claimed Strictly Come Dancing left her in more pain than childbirth as she detailed the horror injuries she sustained from the long-running show. The Irish TV presenter, 41, took part in the Saturday night BBC series back in 2023 and danced with professional Carlos Gu, 32. However, despite waltzing all the way through the competition and finishing in sixth place, Angela's stint left her with nasty 'raw, bleeding blisters'. Speaking to reality TV star Vicky Pattison, 37, on their Get A Grip podcast, Angela said: 'I've had two children without pain relief and would do that ten times over in a day than have raw, bleeding blisters. 'You have to put the goddamn shoes on and do a Viennese waltz - my heels have never had so much action. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The Irish TV presenter, 41, took part in the Saturday night BBC series back in 2023 and danced with professional Carlos Gu, 32 'You put a plaster on and, because you're sweating like a donkey, it falls off. You put socks on with your ballroom shoe, and you're still rub-a-dubbing. 'You're raw.' Angela has two daughters with her entrepreneur husband Rory Horgan - Ruby, seven, and Marnie, three. The pair married in 2014 and Rory, who works in corporate banking, tends to keep a low profile compared to his wife. Angela gave birth to her first daughter Ruby in 2018, while Marnie was delivered in 2022 - just a year before she signed up to Strictly. She's not the first Strictly Come Dancing celebrity to have sustained a number of nasty injuries since its launch in 2004. Just last year DIY SOS star Nick Knowles badly injured his knee during training after a jump went wrong. The 62-year-old had to have two operations to aid his recovery. Big Brother host AJ Odudu was also left on crutches in 2021 when she tore a ligament, with the star revealing how her ligament in the arch of her foot was left ' hanging by a thread '. Zara McDermott previously told how her feet were left bleeding over the show's intensive training sessions back in 2023. She told how she was left with just three toenails following her appearances in the ballroom and shared a photo of her nasty foot wounds including one on her big toe, saying: 'Half my toe has come off tbh.' Meanwhile, earlier this month Angela bravely opened up about her ongoing battle with loneliness, revealing it became so bad she suffered a breakdown as a result. She hit breaking point during a CoppaFeel! charity trek in the Himalayas, India last November. Angela was a team leader during the trip alongside fellow TV presenter Emma Willis, entrepreneur Sara Davies and Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown. Sharing her emotional story in a Substack post, Angela said she had hoped simply to motivate the female trekkers, all of whom had had breast cancer. However, just days into the challenging trek, she found herself overwhelmed by the emotional intensity of the experience. 'A couple of days in - I cracked. Full breakdown. Ugly crying into my yak-themed duvet,' she shared. She added she thought to herself at the time, 'I can't do this. I'm not the right person. What the actual f*** was I thinking? How arrogant was I to believe I'm equipped to hold these brilliant women at such a tender time?'

Toyota will build GR Corollas in the UK because of its ‘deep motorsport culture'
Toyota will build GR Corollas in the UK because of its 'deep motorsport culture' No confirmation if we'll be getting any GR Corollas ourselves, mind Skip 6 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 6 Toyota will build the GR Corolla in the UK from 2026 partly to cope with demand, and partly because of our excellent motorsport culture and expertise as the primary reasons. Basically, Toyota reckons we're pretty good at building fast things. The GR Corolla will be manufactured at Toyota's Burnaston plant, near Derby, where the standard Corolla and Corolla Touring Sports models are currently being produced. Makes sense, considering the two cars share a few exterior panels and interior trim. Advertisement - Page continues below Something that certainly isn't shared is the engine: a punchy little 1.6-litre three-pot that also features in the equally punchy (and brilliant) GR Yaris. Which means 300bhp and 295lb ft, enough to chalk off 0-62mph in five seconds. (These GR engines are built in Toyota's Motomachi plant in Japan.) OK, we know what you're thinking: the GR Corolla's being built here, but we can't buy one. Well, Toyota has confirmed future markets and production volume strategy will be clarified over the coming months. And having acknowledged the UK's love for racy things, there's reason enough for us to be optimistic. Optimism that runs to the even racier GR Corollas Toyota's been working on...
