The Chase winner shares wife's shock after team won biggest prize in show's history
The Chase Australia is one of our most loved TV shows.
And the quiz show gave away some mega money on Wednesday night, after a team of four contestants, Lauren, Alina, Nick and Matt took home $129,000. It roughly equates to about $32,250 for each contestant.
The team took on Chaser 'Tiger Mum' Cheryl Toh, who failed to catch them.
The awesome four, who didn't know each other before filming started, banked $29,000 in regular gameplay before activating the Mega Money Spinner.
On Thursday, the team joined Nat and Shirvo on Sunrise, with winning contestant Nick Whatman, revealing his wife didn't actually believe him when he told her about the huge win.
'I called my wife straight away, because I live in Canberra, so I got in the car and called her straight away,' Whatman said.
'She was like 'oh well done' and I told her it was a big win and she said 'I don't believe you'.'
The other winners spoke of how they would spend the money.
'I haven't spent anything yet,' contestant Lauren Huynh said.
'I'm carefully planning what to do with it since it was so much more than expected. We could go a holiday in Fiji or a second holiday or put it towards the mortgage.'
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Alina Stone said she planned to go on a holiday overseas.
Fellow contestant Matt added: 'It was amazing, we bonded really well. We got the biggest prize ever and I can't believe I'm here.'
Finishing the interview, The Chase Australia host Larry Emdur said it was great to see the team win.
'I'm always on the contestants' side, absolutely,' he said.
'The tricky bit for me is when they don't win the money , I get to take it home,' he joked.
'(But seriously), I'm always on their side. It was a lovely team. A great range of knowledge across different areas, I love that moment at the end where Tiger Mum kind of knows (the team will win).
'It was a beautiful moment looking over at you all.
'I'm always with them.'
