Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady signs new 7-figure softball NIL deal before College World Series Game 3
Pitcher NiJaree Canady signed her second seven-figure NIL deal with Texas Tech, keeping her on campus through her senior season. On Friday, Canady's manager, Derrick Shelby of Prestige Management, told ESPN about her new deal with Texas Tech's Matador Club collective.
The Topeka, Kansas, native signed a historic deal in 2024 that included $1 million in direct payments and $50,000 for living expenses after transferring from Stanford.

The news comes just hours before the Red Raiders face the Texas Longhorns in a deciding Game 3 in the Women's College World Series Friday night. The details of her new deal were not disclosed.
"Nija Canady is the most electrifying player in softball. She's box office and she goes out every day and competes," Shelby told ESPN. "The decision to stay at Tech was not difficult. This program has taken care of her. They have showed how much she is appreciated. The entire staff, her teammates, the school in general have been great. Tonight she is playing for a national championship and she is making history. Everything she wants from this game she can get here at Texas Tech."
Canady is now in her third straight College World Series after leading Stanford to back-to-back appearances as a Cardinal. She posted a 0.97 ERA during the regular season, and has been a stalwart for the Red Raiders on the mound this WCWS.

Canady pitched 6 innings (4 hits, 2 earned runs, 7 strikeouts) in Texas Tech's 2-1 loss in Game 1 of the WCWS, and 7 innings (6 hits, 2 earned runs, 6 strikeouts) in Thursday's 4-3 Game 2 win to force Friday's clincher.
A national title would be the crown jewel in Canady's decorated career, which includes several All-conference and All-American Honors. Canady also won the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2024.

Three Wisconsin Badgers appear on PFF's list of the NFL's top centers for 2025 season A trio of former Wisconsin Badgers landed on ProFootballFocus' list of the top 32 centers entering the 2025 NFL season. Captained by Super Bowl-winning center Creed Humphrey, PFF's hierarchy features former Badger standouts Joe Tippmann, Tyler Biadasz and Tanor Bortolini. Tippmann, who is entering his third campaign representing the New York Jets, landed at No. 11 on the ranking between Arizona Cardinal Hjalte Froholdt (No. 10) and Cleveland Brown Ethan Pocic (No. 12). The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native has started in 31 of 33 career games in New York, including all 17 games at center a season ago with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers at the helm. The Jets, with building star Breece Hall and Badger alumnus Braelon Allen in the backfield, rushed 363 times for 1,561 yards and eight scores behind Tippmann in 2024. Here's PFF's analysis on how the 2022 Honorable mention All-Big Ten center stacks up this coming season: "Tippmann took a big step forward in his second NFL season, earning a top-10 PFF overall grade (73.4) among centers. He improved his figure by more than 10 points on the grading scale over his rookie campaign, which bodes well for his ability to continue his career progression at just 24 years old." Amherst, Wisconsin, product Tyler Biadasz was the second Badger on PFF's recent list at No. 15. The five-year NFL veteran and 2022 Pro Bowler made 49 starts across four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before suiting up in 15 games with the Washington Commanders during the 2024 slate. With rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels at the helm and both Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler in the backfield, Washington rushed for 2,619 yards and 25 scores in 2024, with Biadasz leading the blocking effort. Only the Eagles and Ravens totaled more yardage on the ground. Here's PFF's take on the veteran: "Biadasz, in his first year with the Commanders, started off the 2024 season on a high note. Through the first nine games, his 79.3 PFF pass-blocking grade charted as the second-highest mark at the position. While that momentum faded as the season went on, and as Biadasz dealt with injury and illness, he still managed to finish with solid marks as a run blocker and a pass protector." Fresh off his first season with the Indianapolis Colts, Tanor Bortolini earned the No. 30 designation on the annual ranking. The Wisconsin product started in five of 12 total appearances for the Colts, largely contributing due to injuries at the position. Nonetheless, PFF's staff did not ignore the impression he made. "With the injuries to Ryan Kelly this past season, it was Bortolini and veteran Danny Pinter who stepped in to shoulder the load. Both are expected to compete for the starting job this summer. Bortolini showed a bit more of a well-rounded game in his first year as a pro, albeit on a limited sample. He produced a 64.0-plus PFF grade as both a run blocker and a pass protector, which may bode well for his chances of taking control of the starting job in 2025." As of June 6, all three players are poised to start for their respective franchises this coming season. The Colts, Jets and Commanders all kick-start their 2025 seasons on Sept. 7. Women's College World Series championship: Texas beats Texas Tech for program's first national title
In their eighth trip to the WCWS, the Longhorns finally win a national championship, beating the Red Raiders Imagn Images Texas has won the college softball national title. After finishing as the national runners-up two times in the previous three years, the Longhorns have their first title with a 10-4 win over Texas Tech at the Women's College World Series. It came in Texas' eighth trip to the WCWS. It's also Texas coach Mike White's first title as the Longhorns scored five runs in the first inning and led the rest of the way. A three-run home run by Leighann Goode and a grand slam by Mia Scott sparked the Texas offense, and Teagan Kavan was brilliant in the circle. What a long road to finally get to the top and what an impact he has had on this sport. What an insanely incredible career for Mia Scott. She provided firepower on both sides of the ball her entire career and showed up on the biggest state here in OKC. If there were co-MOPs, she would have joined Teagan Kavan. Your WCWS MVP: Teagan Kavan. Her 31-2/3 innings without an earned run is a tournament record, and she has been invaluable to this team from the moment she stepped into the circle with the Longhorns. So, so awesome to see, all with her grandma Miney watching over her. The Longhorns had a bit of a roller-coaster year, especially in the last month of the season. Even in the Super Regionals, Clemson had this Texas team on the ropes until the very last second. This has been utter grit from the Longhorns all postseason, and the moment is finally theirs. That's a huge win for Texas, obviously — and a major one for Longhorns ace Tegan Kavan, too. With the win Friday, Kavan passed Cat Osterman for most wins (six) at the WCWS in Texas softball history. Osterman is widely considered one of the best players in the history of college softball to never win a national championship. Given that the righty is just a sophomore, it's likely she'll be able to pad that record the next couple of years. IT'S OVER! TEXAS HAS FINALLY DONE IT! The first-ever championship in program history for the Longhorns, and a long-awaited title for legendary coach Mike White. What an all-around performance from the Longhorns tonight, and they've finally overcome the demons that have haunted them in this WCWS for the last few years. Any chance we could get Judge Wilken to rule on how dumb the obstruction rule (and endless reviews) are? It's only 7:20 on the West Coast, I'm sure she's still awake It was definitely a risky move by Mihyia Davis to go on a ball that was in short left field, right in front of Katie Stewart. And while the rule is that the fielder has to allow a lane for the runner to get to the base, Mia Scott already had the ball in her glove by the time Davis got to the bag, so she can do whatever she wants at that point. This is a big call if this obstruction rule stands. It doesn't stand. It wouldn't be a WCWS championship game without an obstruction call. This is the wackiest WCWS ever, and you cannot convince me otherwise! Oh my, Katie Stewart just went ALL OUT for that one against the wall. She went full speed into the left-field wall in foul territory to take in that ball off the bat of Alexa Langeliers, and she just bounced off of that thing like it was nothing. She has made some great plays this entire tournament but has kind of flown under the radar. Now that we're in the seventh, the run rule does not matter: These are the last licks for Texas Tech against Teagan Kavan and Texas, as we have another pinch hitter for the Red Raiders. One interesting thing I've noticed is that some of these Texas Tech hitters are going with split grips on their bats, especially the lefties. It helps to have a little more bat control and shortens up your swing, which helps against a pitcher with the speed and movement of Kavan. T7 - Texas 10, Texas Tech 3 The Red Raiders will need a HUGE rally to keep this one going. Here we go. If you didn't think Kayden Henry was fast, she just stretched a misplayed ball by shortstop Hailey Toney that dribbled into the outfield into a double, with ease. Keep in mind, with the Longhorns coming up to the plate, they need just one run to end this thing and claim the national championship. They have newly anointed program single-season hits leader Ashton Maloney coming to the plate to get things going. B6 - Texas 10, Texas Tech 3 Teagan Kavan settles things back down and still hasn't allowed an earned run in this WCWS. Texas is three outs away from a title and can avoid the top of the seventh with a run here in the bottom of the sixth to walk it off.
