Notwithstanding Kabir Jayanti holiday, Punjab power demand scales record high

Chandigarh, Jun 11 (UNI) Notwithstanding a government holiday on Wednesday on account of Kabir Jayanti, power demand in Punjab scaled to a record high of 16836 Mega Watt due to sweltering heat coupled with paddy load.
The Punjab State Power Corposation Limited (PSPCL) was drawing over 10,243 MW from the northern grid while its own gross generation was 6600 MW. All the thermal units are operating today. Even hydel plants are running, including four Ranjit Sagar units.
At the time of record demand, PSPCL's own thermal generation was 2020 MW, and private thermal generation was 3192 MW. PSPCL's hydro generation was 950 MW and solar generation was 395 MW.
On Tuesday, Punjab's electricity demand soared to a record-breaking 16,249 MW, surpassing the previous year's peak of 16089 MW recorded on June 29
However, if the current weather pattern persists, the maximum power demand in Punjab could potentially exceed 17000 MW in the coming days. PSPCL claims it is prepared to take additional measures, including importing more power and optimizing local generation, to meet this anticipated demand.
The drawing limit from the northern grid is 10400 MW and its own maximum power availability may
be around 6600 MW under ideal conditions.
On Tuesday, PSPCL supplied 3383 lakh units with maximum demand of 16246 MW. On Monday PSPCL supplied 3295 lakh units with maximum demand of around 15640 MW.
After an unusually cool summer in early June, the return of summer heat wave temperature is touching 44 degree celcious and the power demand has started rising sharply for the last three days.
The coal stock at thermal plants in the state and power sector is sufficient. Lehra Mohabbat thermal
has 21 days of coal stock, Ropar thermal 34 days of coal stock, and Goindwal 28 days stock. In the private sector Rajpura has 31 days stock and Talwandi Sabo 23 days coal stock.
The water level in Bhakra Dam is 1555.4 feet, lower by 28 feet as compared to last year's level of 1584.2 feet. At Ranjit Sagar water level is 506.9 metres as compared to 507.20 metres on the corresponding day. UNI GS XC SSP

AP: Ethiopian Delegation visits RTGS cent

Vijayawada, June 12 (UNI) A delegation from Ethiopia visited the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) located in the Secretariat on Thursday. The 10-member delegation, led by Girum Ketema Teklemariam, Director of Ethiopia's Digital Agriculture and Finance Program, is currently touring Amaravati. As part of their visit, the delegation toured the RTGS facility. RTGS Deputy CEO M. Madhuri welcomed the delegation and explained the functioning of RTGS. She described how RTGS is acting as a technological bridge between the government and the people. She stated that the RTGS system took shape from the visionary ideas of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to implement such a system. She mentioned that a comprehensive data lake is being developed by integrating data from all government departments, which will help make governance more streamlined and effective. The government aims to deliver all services directly to citizens via their mobile phones, eliminating the need for people to visit government offices. As part of this initiative, a WhatsApp Governance system under the name 'Mana Mitra' has been launched. Currently, 455 types of services are being offered through WhatsApp Governance, to expand to over a thousand services shortly. An 'Aware Hub' has also been set up to provide real-time information on weather changes to the public. RTGS is continuously monitoring weather conditions in collaboration with ISRO. To ensure greater transparency and efficiency in government operations and to deliver better services to citizens, RTGS is extensively utilizing Artificial Intelligence. A dedicated AI Hub is being established within RTGS for this purpose. RTGS is also providing the necessary technological support to government departments to ensure that the benefits of government schemes and programs effectively reach the people. The Ethiopian delegation expressed appreciation for the functioning of RTGS and praised the Government of Andhra Pradesh for establishing such an impressive technological system. Accompanying the delegation were Agriculture Department Joint Director Balasubramanyam, Assistant Director VUV Ramana, and others. UNI DP BD

Odisha CM flags off Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi flight

Bhubaneswar, June 12 (UNI) A direct international flight service between Bhubaneswar and Abu Dhabi, operated by IndiGo, was flagged off by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here. The maiden flight, carrying 180 passengers, took off from BPIA after the Chief Minister formally inaugurated the service, which was launched under the Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative. The new route is expected to enhance international connectivity, boost tourism and trade, and foster cultural exchange between Odisha and the Middle East. According to BPIA sources, the Bhubaneswar–Abu Dhabi–Bhubaneswar direct flight will operate three times a week — Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Bhubaneswar was previously connected to three international destinations: Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Majhi said the day marked a significant milestone, coinciding with the completion of one year of his government. He credited the Centre's support under the New Destination Policy for making the direct flight to Abu Dhabi possible. The Chief Minister noted that about 180 passengers, including some from Kolkata, boarded the inaugural flight from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi. 'With this new direct flight, Odisha will now have stronger connections to the Middle East, which will contribute to the growth of commerce, tourism, industrial investment, and cultural exchange,' the Chief Minister stated. He also said that, alongside passenger services, cargo services have commenced. On Thursday, 50 tonnes of Amrapali mangoes were exported to Abu Dhabi. Efforts are underway, he said, to ensure that mangoes and other agricultural products from Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, and Nuapada reach international markets. The Chief Minister also announced that direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam would resume. Highlighting the aviation achievements of his one-year tenure, Majhi said flight services from BPIA to Dehradun, Ghaziabad, Indore, Lucknow, and Port Blair have been launched. Additionally, flights from Jharsuguda to Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Raipur have also commenced. Majhi expressed confidence that BPIA will soon emerge as a major hub for IndiGo, drawing passengers from other cities to connect to a wider range of destinations. UNI DP PRS
