AP: Ethiopian Delegation visits RTGS cent
Vijayawada, June 12 (UNI) A delegation from Ethiopia visited the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) located in the Secretariat on Thursday. The 10-member delegation, led by Girum Ketema Teklemariam, Director of Ethiopia's Digital Agriculture and Finance Program, is currently touring Amaravati. As part of their visit, the delegation toured the RTGS facility.
RTGS Deputy CEO M. Madhuri welcomed the delegation and explained the functioning of RTGS. She described how RTGS is acting as a technological bridge between the government and the people. She stated that the RTGS system took shape from the visionary ideas of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to implement such a system.
She mentioned that a comprehensive data lake is being developed by integrating data from all government departments, which will help make governance more streamlined and effective. The government aims to deliver all services directly to citizens via their mobile phones, eliminating the need for people to visit government offices.
As part of this initiative, a WhatsApp Governance system under the name 'Mana Mitra' has been launched. Currently, 455 types of services are being offered through WhatsApp Governance, to expand to over a thousand services shortly.
An 'Aware Hub' has also been set up to provide real-time information on weather changes to the public. RTGS is continuously monitoring weather conditions in collaboration with ISRO. To ensure greater transparency and efficiency in government operations and to deliver better services to citizens, RTGS is extensively utilizing Artificial Intelligence. A dedicated AI Hub is being established within RTGS for this purpose.
RTGS is also providing the necessary technological support to government departments to ensure that the benefits of government schemes and programs effectively reach the people. The Ethiopian delegation expressed appreciation for the functioning of RTGS and praised the Government of Andhra Pradesh for establishing such an impressive technological system.
Accompanying the delegation were Agriculture Department Joint Director Balasubramanyam, Assistant Director VUV Ramana, and others.

DGCA orders additional maintenance checks for Air India's B787 aircraft
New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday issued a directive mandating urgent additional maintenance checks for Air India's B787-8/9 fleet equipped with Genx engines. The directions were issued in the wake of the recent accident involving an Air India Boeing B787-800 aircraft operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick on June 12. In an order issued here, the aviation regulator stated that, as a preventive measure, the DGCA has directed Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines, in coordination with the concerned regional DGCA offices. These measures will come into effect from June 15, the order said. The DGCA stated that, as part of aircraft maintenance and pre-flight drills, inspections must be carried out for fuel parameter monitoring and related system checks, cabin air compressor and associated systems, electronic engine control system testing, engine fuel-driven actuator operation testing, oil system inspection, and serviceability checks of the hydraulic system. In addition, a review of the flight readiness parameters should be conducted, and a 'flight control inspection' must be included in the transit checks until further notice. A power assurance check should be carried out within two weeks, and maintenance actions on Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft must be ensured at the earliest based on a review of recurring faults observed over the past 15 days. EEPC India holds open house session on India-US bilateral trade
New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) EEPC India, the country's apex engineering exports promotion body, on Friday held an Open House Session on the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) here in which participating members shared that buyers in the US are delaying orders due to policy uncertainty, making it hard for businesses to plan and grow. Even as India and the US are holding bilateral trade agreement (BTA) talks, the US recently doubled tariffs under Section 232 — from 25 percent to 50 pc on steel, steel products, and aluminium. Auto components face a 25 pc duty, while other items are taxed at 10 pc. Unlike countries like Canada, Mexico, and the UK, India does not enjoy tariff exemptions from the US. This puts Indian exporters at a disadvantage, especially for low-margin products that are easily replaceable and sensitive to price changes, the speakers said. EEPC India chairman Pankaj Chadha, emphasised that while the BTA may take time, India must ensure that its final agreement is on par or better than those of other US trade partners. Aakash Shah, Vice Chairman of EEPC India, pointed out that India's penetration in the US engineering market remains low. India ranks only 13th among the US's engineering trade partners, with a modest 1.8 pc share. 'These small figures might offer India an opportunity to request more favourable trade terms under the ongoing BTA discussions to support its engineering exporters,' he noted. The aluminium industry raised concerns about high power costs in India, which make production expensive. In contrast, countries like Canada and those in Europe, which use cheaper renewable energy, can offer better prices and gain market share in the US. Producers in the Middle East, such as UAE and Bahrain, are also expanding rapidly. EEPC India members appreciated the Government's support in dealing with various challenges which hit the industry from time to time. Rupee falls by 48 paise to 86.08 against US dollar
Mumbai, June 13 (UNI) Rupee on Friday depreciated by 48 paise to close at 86.08 against the US dollar, due to a spike in global oil prices and a firm dollar amid rising tensions in the Middle East following a fresh Israel attack on Iran's nuclear sites, a trader said Negative close in domestic equity markets and heavy FII outflows further contributed to the fall in the local unit, forex traders added The currency opened 55 paise down at 86.15 against the dollar.
