As we get ready to find out the winners, here's all you need to when is the Ballon d'Or 2025 ceremony and how the winners will be picked.
When is the Ballon d'Or 2025 ceremony?
The Ballon d'Or 2025 ceremony will he held on 22 September 2025 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
How will the Ballon d'Or 2025 winners be picked?
The shortlist for the Ballon d'Or awards was picked by the journalists of the France Football magazine, along with the French publication L'Equipe.
For the men's Ballon d'Or, the winner is determined by votes from one journalist representing each of the top-100 ranked nations in FIFA's ranking list. Each voter arranges 10 names from a pool of 30 shortlisted players in order of preference. Points are allocated according to position: 15 for the top pick, 12 for second, 10 for third, then 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 for the rest.
If two or more players finish with identical scores, the number of first-choice selections decides the higher spot. If that's still even, the comparison shifts to second-choice tallies, then third-choice, and continues until the tie is broken.
While picking the winner, the journalists are encouraged to consider three factors.
Individual performances, decisive and impressive character
Team performances and achievements
Class and fair play
The winner for Women's Ballon d'Or is also picked the same way but only from journalists from the top-50 ranked nations in the FIFA standings.

A fan ended up asking Grok, X's AI assistant, about the reason behind Suleiman's death. The response was heartbreaking. "Suleiman al-Obeid, 41, died on Aug 6, 2025, in southern Gaza while awaiting aid. Palestinian Football Association reports he was killed by Israeli forces targeting civilians. No specific IDF comment; Israel generally denies such actions, citing militant threats or warning shots. Sources: France24, Times of Israel," Grok said. Salah criticises UEFA tribute to ‘Palestinian Pele', says to reveal details about his death

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on Saturday criticised UEFA's tribute to the late Suleiman Al-Obeid, known as the 'Palestinian Pele,' after European football's governing body failed to reference the circumstances surrounding his death this week. The Palestine Football Association said that Al-Obeid, 41, was killed by an Israeli strike targeting civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday. In a brief post on the social media platform X, UEFA called the former national team member 'a talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.' Salah responded: 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?' Can you tell us how he died, where, and why? — Mohamed Salah (@MoSalah) August 9, 2025 UEFA was not immediately available to comment. One of the Premier League's biggest stars, the 33-year-old Egyptian Salah, has previously advocated for humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza during the nearly two-year-long war. The PFA later posted a statement on its Facebook page attributed to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, calling Al-Obeid 'proof of the joy that can flourish in the hearts of people despite hardship. 'He gave his talent and dedication to the children of Gaza and gave their dreams a hope to blossom despite the suffering,' the statement read. 'His death is a great loss to the world of football and to everyone who recognises the power of sport to unite people,' it added. The war began after Gaza's dominant Palestinian militant group Hamas carried out a cross-border attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Israel's subsequent air and ground campaign has levelled entire neighbourhoods in Gaza, displaced most of the population of 2.3 million and pushed the enclave to the brink of famine, according to the United Nations. The UN says more than 1,000 people have been killed near aid distribution sites and aid convoys in Gaza since the launch of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a U.S. and Israel-backed aid distribution system, in late May. Lionel Messi To Miss Inter Miami's MLS Orlando Clash

Lionel Messi will miss Inter Miami's Major League soccer clash with Florida rivals Orlando on Sunday as he continues to recover from a "minor" muscle injury, coach Javier Mascherano said Saturday. "No, Leo will not be available tomorrow," Mascherano said. "He is fine, but obviously it would be crazy to risk taking him to Orlando because of all that is ahead. "We are optimistic that he will soon return with us." After the Florida Derby clash with Orlando, Inter will host the LA Galaxy on August 16 and three days later they play a Leagues Cup quarter-final against Mexico's Tigres UANL. Messi, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, missed the club's last Leagues Cup group stage match after suffering the "minor muscle injury" in his upper right leg in Miami's win over Necaxa on August 2. Inter are currently fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference, eight points behind leaders Philadelphia and a point ahead of Orlando with three matches in hand. Despite the setback for Messi, Miami have been buoyed by the arrival of his Argentine compatriot Rodrigo De Paul, who scored his first goal for the Herons in a 3-1 victory over Pumas UNAM that clinched their Leagues Cup quarter-final berth.
