NGC celebrates Independence Day
The central ceremony took place at TSG Training Centre in New Kot Lakhpat, Lahore, where Managing Director Engr Muhammad Shahid Nazir served as chief guest, leading the flag hoisting alongside Deputy Managing Directors and General Managers.
Chairman Board of Directors Dr Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry graced the occasion as guest of honour, participating virtually from Canada via video conference.
In his keynote address, Dr Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry paid heartfelt tribute to the countless sacrifices made during the struggle for independence.
He emphasized the collective responsibility of all citizens to prioritize national interests above personal gains, stating that the path to prosperity lies in learning from past experiences while fostering peace and unity. Dr Fiaz Chaudhry called upon the gathering to renew their commitment to the fundamental principles that led to Pakistan's creation.
Managing Director Engr Shahid Nazir reflected on the significance of Independence Day as an opportunity to reaffirm dedication to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, built upon the pillars of Unity, Faith and Discipline.
He commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their exemplary response during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, acknowledging the nation's support for the military's efforts in defending the homeland. Engr Shahid Nazir stressed the importance of collective hard work and dedication in advancing Pakistan's development agenda.
Deputy Managing Director (P&E) Engr Dr Khawaja Riffat Hassan also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the company's commitment to national progress.
The ceremony featured a formal march-past by NGC Security Directorate personnel, who presented ceremonial salutes in honour of the occasion. Adding a cultural dimension to the event, children of NGC employees delivered patriotic songs and speeches, showcasing their deep love and pride for Pakistan.
The company recognized exceptional services during the ceremony, presenting awards of appreciation to distinguished NGC officers and staff members whose outstanding contributions have significantly advanced the organization's mission.
The event witnessed substantial attendance from senior leadership, including Deputy Managing Director (AD&M) Engr Rasheed A Bhutto, General Managers, Chief Engineers, Director Generals, C-Suite officers, females and a large representation of officers and staff members from across the organization.

Monsoon floods: King Charles III grieved over losses
ISLAMABAD: Britain's King Charles III on Wednesday extended a message of condolence to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the loss of lives and large-scale devastation caused by the recent monsoon floods across the country. 'We honour their bravery and perseverance, and hold them in our thoughts and prayers as they face the immense challenges of rebuilding.' Punjab CM wants AI-based ‘smart' services in Punjab
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Seishiro Eto Chairman Japan's Parliamentarians' Friendship League in which matters pertaining to enhancing Pak-Japan parliamentary contacts were agreed. Seishiro Eto congratulated Maryam Nawaz Sharif on becoming the first female Chief Minister of Punjab. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif appreciated Seishiro Eto's services for promoting parliamentary as well as Pakistan-Japan relations. Seishiro Eto welcomed the visit of the first female Chief Minister to Japan. Seishiro Eto while talking to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif assured that he would play his positive role in bringing investment to Punjab along with launching joint projects with Japan. It was also agreed to further strengthen mutual ties by maintaining contacts at the parliamentary level. Matters relating to issues for increasing cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, industry and manpower were discussed. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif apprised about the vision of the Punjab government with regard to launching development projects in the province. While talking to Seishiro Eto she said, 'We will move forward cordial relations between Japan and Punjab to new heights. We will benefit from Japanese experiences in the fields of education, health, urban development, police, sewage, water treatment, environment and other sectors.' She outlined, 'We will popularize the usage of technology to promote development and progress in the province. We will introduce AI-based smart services in Punjab. We intend to establish research-oriented partnerships between educational institutions of Punjab and the Japanese universities.' Moreover, the CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Metropolitan Expressway Nihonbashi section in Tokyo. She visited the ancient Nihonbashi Bridge in Japan. Nihonbashi Bridge is a source of entertainment and interest for pedestrians. Nihonbashi, Tokyo's famous waterfront, connects Tokyo Station and other districts. An underground expressway will be completed in the next few years to preserve the ancient beauty of Nihonbashi Bridge. Nihonbashi Expressway is a mega project being built under public-private partnership in Japan. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also apprised about the eco-friendly effects of the Nihonbashi Expressway project. CM seeks Japanese tech to improve traffic, urban systems
LAHORE: 'Japanese experiences and technology will be used to improve traffic and urban systems in Punjab,' said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. During her visit to Tokyo's state-of-the-art traffic control center, she was given a detailed briefing on the working of traffic control room, and the technology used for the purpose. She was apprised by the authorities concerned, 'Tokyo has the honor of being the first city to use 'infrared technology' for traffic control and monitoring.' They said, 'CCTV cameras and roadside sensors are also being used for traffic control and monitoring in Tokyo.' The chief minister was further briefed about data collection, transport planning and the infrastructure in the traffic control room, and was apprised about the provision of ambulances and police action in case of accidents and emergencies. She observed the modern monitoring system to prevent overspeeding and signal violations, and also learnt about the system to inform public about weather changes in Tokyo through the traffic control system. The chief minister said, 'Lahore will be made the first smart city using a modern traffic management system, funds for which have been given in the annual development program. Traffic system of all major cities of Punjab, including Lahore, is being connected to AI.' She highlighted, 'To maintain smooth traffic flow, more than 12,000 kms long roads have been revamped in Punjab. To reduce traffic pressure on roads, efficient mass transit systems are being introduced in Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad. Safe City cameras are being used for traffic monitoring.'
