Calm Just Partnered with Discover Puerto Rico, and It's Bringing The Island's Zen Soundscape Right to Your Phone

CNET22-05-2025

As someone born and raised in Puerto Rico, I've always believed the island has a peculiar rhythm that can't be replicated. That mix of crashing waves, rustling breeze in the palm trees and the coquí's distinctive mating call isn't just noise; for me, it's memory and medicine to my soul. Now, Calm, a mental health app, is bringing exactly that to your phone, and you can play it on repeat.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Calm partnered with Discover Puerto Rico, the island's Destination Marketing Organization, to release its first-ever destination-based audio collection. The library is a sensory experience designed to ground you in the spirit of the island whenever you need a pick-me-up or simply want a moment of calm during stressful moments.
The Calm x Puerto Rico collaboration includes meditations, breathwork, soundscapes and a new sleep story, Adventures in Puerto Rico, narrated in English and Spanish by Lin-Manuel Miranda, a songwriter and actor born to Puerto Rican parents. His voice will take you across the island, from the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan to the bioluminescent bay in La Parguera.
Discover Puerto Rico
"Recording this Sleep Story allowed me to share the magic of the Island in a new way: through its sounds, its stories, and the quiet beauty that fills every corner. Puerto Rico invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover a sense of wonder. I hope listeners feel that peace, and that pull to explore it for themselves," said Miranda in a press release.
The content in this suite of audio experiences was co-created with Puerto Rican artists and sound engineers, ensuring that the rainforest doesn't just sound like any other rainforest, but has the distinctive sounds of El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest within the national forest system.
In addition to the Sleep Story, Calm and Discover Puerto Rico are unveiling four audio experiences and a Breathe Bubble (Calm's signature animated bubble) that include:
Two meditations: one is a visualization through El Yunque, and the other is a body scan on the beach.
Two soundscapes: Sounds of El Yunque, an immersive audio experience featuring native wildlife, gentle rainfall and the natural ambiance of the rainforest's lush terrain. And the other is Floating through the Tanamá River, a peaceful, meditative drift down one of Puerto Rico's most serene rivers.
Breathe Bubble: A guided breathwork exercise with a backdrop sound of Vieques' beaches.

Blue Origin's next suborbital flight is scheduled to launch on Saturday (May 31), carrying a diverse crew of educators, entrepreneurs and adventurers united by a shared passion for space and discovery. The NS-32 suborital mission, which will be Blue Origin's 12th human flight to date, is expected to lift off from Launch Site One in West Texas during a window that opens at 9:30 a.m. EDT (1330 GMT). Blue Origin will stream the launch live, beginning 30 mins prior to launch; will air the webcast if, as expected, the company makes it available. The suborbital flight aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket, lasting approximately 11 minutes, will carry six civilians with varied professional and personal achievements, highlighting the increasing accessibility of space tourism. Here's some information about the six people who will fly on the NS-32 mission, which Blue Origin provided in a mission update. As a STEM educator from Galveston, Texas, Amy Medina Jorge has led over 60 student-driven space experiments, including biometric sensor tests and in-flight 3D printing on zero-G flights. Born in Puerto Rico, she advocates for Hispanic representation in STEM fields and was honored with the 2023 AIAA and Challenger Center Trailblazing STEM Educator Award. Her seat is sponsored by Farmacias Similares, a Mexican company focused on social impact and accessible healthcare across Latin America. A radiologist with over 20 years of clinical experience specializing in women's imaging, Dr. Gretchen Green is also a lifelong space enthusiast. Her journey began with Space Camp in 1986, where she later returned as a Crew Trainer and eventually chaired the Space Camp Alumni Association. She currently serves on the board of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation. As a nationally recognized expert witness and entrepreneur, Green founded The Expert Resource to help doctors build expert witness practices. Green is also a certified life coach who has biked across the U.S., reached the North Pole, and holds degrees from Harvard, Yale and Brown. He also serves on the board of one of Panama's largest private banks and holds board positions with Special Olympics International, Duke Law School and the Woodrow Wilson Center's Latin America Program. Canadian entrepreneur Jesse Williams has launched multiple ventures, including eDirect Software, Car History Group and Just Think Media. An avid cyclist and mountaineer, Williams has summited six of the seven highest peaks on Earth, including Mt. Everest. Several symbols on the NS-32 mission patch — bike gears and Mt. Christchurch-based Kea, which was founded in 2018, focuses on developing sustainable aerospace technology aimed at advancing high-altitude flight and environmental monitoring. Rocket was also a seed investor of Rocket Lab, co-directing the company from 2007 to 2011. The kea parrot on the mission patch symbolizes his homeland of New Zealand.
