Liverpool fans, Dalglish pay tribute to Jota in Hong Kong
Ahead of kickoff, supporters raised a mosaic depicting "DJ 20" and Dalglish laid a wreath in memory of former Liverpool forward Jota, who died along with his brother in a car accident in Spain this month.
The Liverpool players wore "Diogo J 20" patches on their shirts and black armbands. AC Milan winger Rafael Leao paid tribute to his Portugal teammate by making a "2" and "0" sign with his fingers after scoring an early goal in the Italian team's 4-2 win.
Liverpool fan Zoe Leung and her family made a placard in Jota's memory.
"I think Jota's death is sad and I was really shocked when I watched the news. I made this with my family to show some respect to Jota," the 24-year-old Leung said.
Liverpool players will wear a "Forever 20" emblem on their shirts during the next Premier League season. Supporters can have "Diogo J. 20" printed on shirts in club stores, with the profits going to LFC Foundation, the club's official charity.
Liverpool fans vastly outnumbered AC Milan supporters at the 50,000 capacity Kai Tak Stadium, many bringing placards, scarves, flags and banners to cheer on their team.
Liverpool travel to Japan next to take on Yokohama FM in the J League World Challenge on Wednesday. They begin their Premier League title defence at home to Bournemouth on August 15.

SINGAPORE: Fresh out of the pool and facing what will be one of the first media scrums of a potentially long and storied career, 12-year-old Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi was all smiles. That grin was about to get broader after being told that she had qualified for the women's 200m individual medley (IM) final on Monday (Jul 28). "Did I qualify?" she asked reporters in Mandarin. "I'm happy and I will keep trying my best in the future. I hope I can make a breakthrough at this competition and show what I'm truly capable of." The 12-year-old finished seventh fastest in the semi-finals on Sunday (Jul 27) night, with Canadian swimming sensation Summer Mcintosh topping the field. "It's better than I expected," she said of her World Championships experience so far. The next youngest competitor to have made the 200IM final is Japan's Mio Narita, who is about six years older than Yu. High hopes are pinned on the diminutive Yu, who has clocked incredible timings back home this year. At the China National Championships in May, she registered a time of 2:10.63 in the 200IM. According to World Aquatics, this is the fastest time in history recorded by a 12-year-old in the event. On Sunday, she went even faster, with a 2:10.22 in her semi-final. Yu also clocked 2:06.83 en route to winning the 200m butterfly at the China National Championships in May, a time which would have put her fourth in last year's Paris Olympics. She won the 400IM at that meet with a time of 4:35.53, which would have also put her fourth at the 2024 Games. Yu, who at the age of six was introduced to swimming at an amusement park by her father, will compete in three events at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore - the 200IM, the 200m butterfly, and the 400m individual medley. "There will definitely be pressure, but I'll just do my best," she said. Asked how she felt after her first two races - the morning's heats and the evening's semi-finals - in Singapore, Yu's answer was simple: "Pretty tired." Earlier in the evening, the Australian swim team got their campaign off to a strong start with golds in the men's and women's 4x100m freestyle relay. The men's quartet of Flynn Southam, Kai Taylor, Maximillian Giuliani and Kyle Chambers set a World Championships record, with Italy taking second and the United States third.

Arsenal new signing Gyokeres arrives in Singapore for pre-season friendly
LONDON/SINGAPORE: Arsenal's new signing Viktor Gyokeres was spotted at Singapore's Changi Airport on Sunday evening (Jul 27), a day after the Premier League club announced the signing of the Swedish international striker from Sporting Lisbon. Gyokeres, who is expected to bolster Arsenal's attacking options as they attempt to challenge for the title, will meet up with his new teammates in their ongoing pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong. He arrived on a flight from London at about 5.30pm and was greeted by up to 40 local fans who shouted his name, and took a few wefies. The marquee signing was then swiftly whisked away. The 27-year-old, who fired Sporting to the Portuguese title last season with 39 goals and netted a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City, is reported to have signed a five-year deal in a transfer worth an initial £57.4 million (US$77.1 million). Gyokeres' transfer, which could end up costing the north London club as much as £66.4 million with performance-related add-ons, takes Arsenal's close-season spending to the region of £200m. "To come here to a club on Arsenal's level, I think it's going to help me perform even better with all the amazing players in this team. I'm really excited to get going," said Gyokeres. Even before then, Arsenal were in desperate need of a reliable scorer, and Arteta will hope his new signing can fire him to his first silverware since he won the FA Cup in 2020, and end the club's two-decade wait for a Premier League title. "Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels," said Arteta.
